A look at the Premier League table shows Newcastle are in decent shape if they can string together a run of good results. However, that’s proven to be a difficult task so far in this rollercoaster of a season.
While Newcastle are positioned in the bottom half of the table at 14th, we are just 4 points behind Leicester City in 4th. There’s also some breathing room between the bottom three, who are all on 1 point though Burnley have a match in hand.
It’s been a crazy season so far. Though that really shouldn’t be a surprise with the unprecedented measures taken to get this campaign underway. The season started a month late with a preseason that lasted only three weeks.
However, Newcastle still find themselves in decent shape. If we can beat Everton on Sunday at St James Park, we’ll be just two points behind the team that stormed out of the gate with four straight wins.
We’ll then face a resurgent Southampton team, who defeated Everton this past weekend. The Saints are unbeaten in their last four after suffering the 5-2 defeat at home to Spurs in September.
Newcastle can salvage the start to this season with good results against Everton and Southampton. A win on Sunday would be outstanding as it would likely propel us into the top half of the table.

Comment #1I can’t see this being for compensation…
If he wins the case the route to a sale being completed will be there…
Option A…
He will get to sell the club and wash his hands of it, sell it to someone who can make us a real force to be reckoned with, become some sort of hero (yes, you read that right lol) and he will have an avenue to the KSA for his business dealings…
For me that is the reasoning for a fight in court…
Option B)
Win the case, get some money as compensation and stick with the club…
Really?

Comment #2Dondatta some just won’t choose to believe just yet and that’s fine as they want to stay guarded and it’s expected with some.
But time will reveal more and then people will start believing more.
If you build it they will come

Comment #4Steve Bruce will still be the manager on Saturday and I will have to put up with watching him on the touchline looking like a very confused Komodo dragon, sticking his tongue in and out for 90 minutes. Until I have to stop witnessing this awful sight I will not be getting excited about a takeover that might never happen!!!

If you look at it logically, we almost all agree, he is motivated by money. In my opinion, option A above will be far far more lucrative…
This is why I think the other option just doesn’t make sense.
Each to their own, I am not here to preach to anybody. Simply putting my thoughts out there 😉

Comment #6Dondatta we both see it the same, logically and that’s how I’ve always saw it.
This deal is worth far more to Ashley than the 340M he will get for sale of the club and any compensation package would be pittance in comparison

Comment #8I’m starting to wonder if Ashley voted im favour of PPV specifically for the purpose of then coming out and criticising it.
It makes him look better and the PL look worse.
I doubt it would make any difference in a court of law (or it certainly shouldn’t make a difference) but he’s the type to play those kinds of games.
If you ask me, it just makes him look clueless. Boting in favour of something and then opposing it is nonsense.

I’d like to counter your
“i think there’s fans desperate the takeover doesn’t happen”
With.
I think some fans are that desperate for this to happen they’d give Ashley a knee trembler behind the Strawberry.
So who’s more fair and balanced?
The ones losing their mind or the ones taking a step back and waiting for more to unfold before jumping on the bandwagon?
Just because someone is questioning things doesn’t mean their against them, all fans should understand this after 13 years of Ashley.
Comments like yours are pointless and inflammatory, as was my response 😉
Mund
There was no red flags “apparently” when PL was first approached, who knows what a second case could do..
Wasn’t there talk Masters was waiting for a decision over Saudi and TV piracy before he’d make one on a takeover.
Who knows how one could affect the other until Pandoras box is opened.
Court cases don’t always unfold as expected.

Comment #14interesting to see the emminent QC’s that are involved.O’ Donoghue became a QC in 2017 and has been working in competition law for most of his career based in both London and Brussels. Don’t see any track record related to sport but has handled a lot of cases linked with the European Commission……..more interesting though is that O’Donoghue works out of Brick Court chambers who have represented Sports Direct in a number of cases. So for me that is a sign of Mike Ashley being fully aware of the NUFC guys.
Nick De marco became a QC in 2018 and works out of Blackstone chambers who haven’t as far as I can see represented Mike Ashley in the past
I do believe things are starting to boil

Comment #16I 100% believe Ashley wants to sell, this time last year I wasn’t convinced at all.
All the Tweets etc point to Ashley etc are tying to push this though.
Obviously as he’s a greedy bar steward but it doesn’t mean he’ll win his case..
Thats being realistic not negative.
Obviously Masters and the Prem believe they’re on as solid ground as Ashley does, someones wrong but we don’t know who yet..
The thing that will give us all WAY MORE of a idea if the takeover will go through will be the PL reply.
If they’re prepared to go to court they must think they have a water tight case.
Atm there’s nothing to get excited about.

Comment #19Op. I agree it’s not clear cut and that the reply from the PL, provided it’s not “No Comment” will give a better indication of how things will go.
Not sure I agree with the comment that Masters and the PL believe they are on solid ground….I honestly believe that they didn’t see legal action being taken.

The line about us not hearing about a takeover was clearly a load of nonsense. Ashley would have absolutely no way of knowing whether or not a genuine sale might be leaked. He was talking out of his backside as usual.

I read earlier that the PL had already given a “no comment” on this.
It could be because they are still preparing a statement, but I suspect they are probably going to maintain the “no comment” response for the foreseeable future

If I had insight into the Letter Ashley sent the PL I may be swayed more…
However I have mulled it over, Is there something in it which the PL would want to keep quiet?
I want this to go through as much as you, im sick of Ashley but I believe this limbo the club is in could be worse for the club than anything over the last 13 years has been..
This limbo needs stopping asap, we’ve always barely tread water, clubs slowly drowning atm.

So you’re saying “really” as though Mike Ashley pursuing the PL for a huge amount of compensation is a farfetched idea. £50/100M compensation is nothing to £340M for a deal, well, error, it is actually a very sizeable amount of money AND here’s the big one, we don’t even know if the Saudi’s are still interested. The more talk about this closed shop super league the less likely they are to want to spunk upwards of £500M just to get started.

Comment #25I will say I’d be shocked if Ashley was looking for compo.
This is about selling the club, no way he’d settle for a few million.
He wants his cake, he wants to eat it and he wants Masters to deliver it and spoon feed him.
He always seems to get what he wants, Nufc fans don’t and that’s why I’m apprehensive.

Comment #26I’d like to think that both cases point to Masters being 3rd or 4th choice.
How someone else got the job only to be paid off.
Rumours were they wouldn’t play ball with the bindippers and manure so Masters was brought in instead.
If there’s any evidence or way to prove this then that alone could prove collusion.

Comment #27KV They can either reply to the letter or call the bluff and see if legal action happens.
The “No comments” to press questions is logical. They have to give their legal team time to review and recommend their best actions/response.
I wouldn’t expect an official statement from them in the next couple of days. If I remember well it took them a couple of weeks before they officially responded to a previous letter from NUFC supporters ……..

Never going to happen.
Even if Ashley got £100m off the PL do you really think he’d take £100m less for the club?
More chance of Munster stops baiting the blog or that jibs the pope.
No way Ashley would take 100m less, I think he’d rather keep the club.

Comment #35Jail, where did that figure of £50/100M come from?
Nobody knows the amount of compensation that would be afforded should he win the case?
My view being, a man that has shown time and time again that money is king, has the opportunity to strike a business partnership with PIF and or the KSA…
Simply winning a case against the PL will deem the non decision wrong and that a sale should be approved…
Which, in your opinion would you choose if you were a businessman?
