Young Magpie Switches Agents As Clock Again Begins To Tick On His Future

Matty Longstaff made his season debut in our 2-0 loss at Southampton two weeks ago. The 20-year-old had been out since pre-season with a pesky thigh injury. He played twice for Chris Hogg’s U23s before finally getting a half an hour against the Saints.

Longstaff was a revelation last October when he bagged a goal on his league debut to sink Manchester United 1-0 at St. James’ Park. He scored again against the Red Devils in a 4-1 defeat on Boxing day.

Appearances were hard to come by for the local lad in 2020. He was handed just 2 league starts and 3 in our FA Cup run after New Years’ Day. He still hit the headlines though with a protracted contract saga that was never resolved until he became a free agent.

He ultimately signed a quick fix two-year deal in late August. However, the clock continued to tick on his Newcastle future before the ink was even dry. This summer we could be back at it again as he enters the final year of his contract.

The hope is Newcastle won’t let it get to that point. The deal in August was to buy time to reach an agreement on a long-term contract with the promising midfielder. However, his injury has not helped matters.

Matty needs an opportunity to show his value in order to get the terms he is likely seeking. Newcastle will also need to see him produce on the pitch to offer a long-term deal with higher wages.

The Chronicle is reporting that Matty has signed up with the Triple S agency and has left Beswick Sports.

Triple S agency was founded by former Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd. They tweeted an announcement confirming the news yesterday.

Hopefully, this change in agents will mean smoother negotiations on a long-term deal for Longstaff. However, we don’t expect any progress on talks to be imminent with Matty just returning from his long lay-off.

Newcastle and Matty must not let the events that played out last season and late into this summer happen again.

    It’s ok , i understand .
    you’ve got no friends !
so when you see anyone chatting , getting along and having a laugh ,
You fee some bitterness and a little bit of jealousy towards them and try and bring them down to your level ,
because it’s something you probably won’t ever experience ! (Laughing , smiling)
But it’s ok , Just reach out !
you never know , someone might actually want to be friend’s with you !
Who knows , stranger thing’s have happened at sea 😉

    The biggest thing is arbitration.

We’ve been talking court cases and what it could be and had no idea really.

I’m pleased with the club statement because its cleared things up for me.

Before there was a roundabout with several exits and everyone thought we should be taking a different path.

Obviously we arent privy to the exact details but we can see where this is heading.

    (short and sweary)

Jail is a sparky, a sparky is he
He couldn’t give a fck what you’re having for tea
Or whether you’re rolling around and pissing your pants
Or spitting out coffee at some cnt called bants

He’ll call it as bollox and tell you to shoot
straight off to bandcamp and play with your flute!

OP you’re right it does, in my opinion, clear a lot of things up. Arbitration is the key word
I think de Marco is heading this and must be confident cos I can’t see him putting his reputation on the line

It’s quite alright, as I say some of my views are very reasonable, as it happens not everyone likes them but it certainly doesn’t make you a bad person for agreeing with some of them 😀

It’s not easy is it, this Peace lark? You really have to have nerves of steel and endless patience to just accept another opinion is held and not bite hard on what you disagree with. The hypocrisy is the worst, watching that fly past while resisting the urge to bat it down, that’s tough. 🙂

Find it amazing how people can read the same post and come away with different views I suppose it’s all about what you want to read and not actually what you DO read. I for one still wouldn’t trust fat lad one bit, this statement will be for his benefit and not ours he ain’t suddenly changed and looking after the supporters
