Bruce Provides A Positive Injury Update And Responds To Almiron’s Agent

Steve Bruce has given his press conference for tomorrow’s match against Chelsea. Of course, as is often the case, the head coach started with an injury update. We have to say it is a very positive one.

Bruce has confirmed that both Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie are in contention for tomorrow, though it may be too early for Jonjo. Both have recently returned to training after long lay-offs.

Here is what Bruce said about the duo per Newcastle’s Twitter account:

“It might be a bit early for Jonjo Shelvey but he’s trained over the last three days. Matt Ritchie is another one who has trained and it’s good news for us all that they’re around the group again and available for selection.”

Bruce did go on to reveal that Ryan Fraser is definitely out for tomorrow’s match. Though that may not be the case for his former-Bournemouth sidekick Callum Wilson, who is desperate to play.

Here is Bruce’s update on our leading goal-scorer:

“Ryan Fraser won’t make it for Saturday but Callum Wilson has a chance. If there’s any risk whatsoever then he won’t play but he has trained the last few days and was very comfortable yesterday. He wants to play.”

While Callum is pushing to play a part tomorrow, hopefully, Bruce will not succumb to that temptation. It’s a far wiser move to give the 28-year-old another week of recovery than risk a long-term problem.

Bruce also gave an update on Paul Dummett, who reportedly suffered a major setback with a hamstring injury. The defender hasn’t played since January and just can’t seem to get fit.

However, it does not appear to be as serious as first reported. Here is what Bruce said about Dummett’s situation:

“He’s not quite right. I wouldn’t say it was a setback but Paul was one of those players that desperately needed a pre-season and suffered without it. We just have to be a bit more patient.”

Another area of interest for Newcastle fans is the Miguel Almiron situation. This past week his agent Daniel Campos made some very inappropriate comments to Paraguayan radio.

Almiron was not seen in training yesterday and remained with the Paraguay national team for their match against Bolivia on Tuesday despite being ineligible. Bruce was not too pleased with the agent’s comments and responded as such during today’s press conference.

The Chronicle has published the following statement from Bruce on Miguel’s agent:

“The agent is an amateur who is looking to make a fast buck. I couldn’t miss them because they were that outrageous.

“It’s a two bob agent and it was amateurish It’s hugely disrespectful to his client.

“Had it been Miguel Almiron coming to see me that is different.”

As for Almiron’s availability tomorrow, he only arrived back in Newcastle late last night so it’s wait and see on him for Chelsea. Bruce did confirm that he passed in Covid-19 test.

“He didn’t get in until 11pm last night after being half-way around the world. He had to be COVID tested but everything seems to be OK in that respect so we’ll see on him.”

Overall, it’s not too bad injury-wise. Though Bruce should play it safe and get save Shelvey and Wilson for Crystal Palace on Friday.

I’d like to see Hoffman dragged into this a bit more, there’s more people responsible for this debacle.

JohnReece, I’m sure I read that the football’s today weigh just the same as the old ones, the only difference the old ones were heavier when. Wet.

The Saudis obviously have a direct line to Boris and pretty much every person high up in the UK or any other country. Masters was a fool or he’s vastly overestimated the FAs power to think he could take a bribe and stop an entity with as much power as the Saudi government. Even Man Utd and Liverpool’s chairmen are paupers in comparison. All it would take is a vague threat to stop buying arms from UK and the gvt would step straight in. The fact that they’d promised to spend millions on the north east and employ x amount of people also means that this is something the gvt will take very seriously especially with all the trouble our economy is in.

If we do get a new chairmen one of the best things would be that we could keep Almiron & Maximin next season and build a team around them. If we keep Ashley and persist with the experienced English manager tactic then we will lose both. Without those two what is left to watch and enjoy?

Agreed! Bruce calling the agent 2 Bob etc is not the way an experienced manager should act. He’s lowered himself and the club. Bloody hell he is dumb. How the hell did he finish up with us?

Bruce will be fuming that the agent mentioned possesion football as it contradicts what he and his pals are trying to fool us into thinking we are watching. I know politicians or newspapers can usually convince people black is white, but a dumb football manager can’t convince 50,000 or so football fans who’ve been watching the game years that park the bus football is anything but boring defensive football. It’s insulting Bruce thinks he can pull the wool over our eyes. He should just come out and admit he plays crap football then we might have a tiny bit respect for him. I never heard Rafa pretending he’s an attack minded manager. But then he’d got results and trophies galore playing defensively so he has nothing to be ashamed of.

Fair play to Bruce for sticking the boot in with Almiron’s agent

Got a bad feeling that if Chelsea are up for it tomorrow, we could lose by 4 or 5.

    Although we’re long overdue a performance right…..hhmmm

I’d have no problems at all with AC being played against the Chelski Spetnaz 11
providing Brucie doesn’t continue to think the only tactic that can be used is the hoofball.
AC will score goals if and when there are balls whipped in from the wings and he’ll also do the hold up job if he doesn’t have to play against multiple big defenders ganging up on him.

And I reckon that Jonjo will be getting into Brucies ears to let him play Saturday such is his commitment to the team, probably to early though. Don’t think he’s to good coming off the bench so he needs starts but with a bit of TLC.

Not much in it between Joelinton and Carrol as centre forward. We could see someone like Murphy, Almiron, ASM play there. Or knowing Bruce, we should expect Hendrick as a defensive number 9.

Shelvey being out was a great opportunity to play 4231 with two defensive midfielders which is the only way to play that formation. Weird that we persisted with 4231 with Shelvey protecting the back 2 and then switched formation without Shelvey to a 5311 which would actually suit Shelvey. Also last season we went with two big lads as strikers and nobody that is renowned for crossing the ball. There’s some massive and obvious oversights with recruitment/ team selection.
