Bruce Makes Four Changes In Our Predicted Lineup For Chelsea

This is the team we think Steve Bruce will name for tomorrow’s match at St James Park against Chelsea. It has four changes from the defeat at Southampton.

Hopefully, Bruce will play it safe and not risk Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, or Matt Ritchie. Our team is predicated on that assumption. There’s also a good probability that he stays with three men at the back with wingbacks.

There’s a good chance both Ciaran Clark and Matty Longstaff come into Bruce’s thinking for this one. Clark was a late call up for the Republic of Ireland but did not feature.

He was outstanding when fit last season on the left side of the back three. Fabian Schar gets dropped to make way for the 31-year-old. The other defenders keep their place with Jamal Lewis and Jacob Murphy returning to the flanks.

The midfield sees two changes with Bruce bringing Isaac Hayden back into the defensive midfield role and Matty Longstaff replacing his brother Sean in midfield. Bruce has to drop Jeff Hendrick at some point as he’s just not produced the goods of late. It’s a tough call on Sean but Matty is really desperate for game time.

We could see Miguel Almiron left out with him only returning to Newcastle late Thursday. However, he didn’t play for Paraguay against Bolivia on Tuesday so we’re edging toward him getting another start.

Upfront, Allan Saint-Maximin stays as the number 10, though he really hasn’t impressed there over the past three matches. Joelinton gets the call over Andy Carroll as he is more versatile if changes need to be made on the fly.

If Chelsea have Alonso on their left tomorrow, as Chilwell may be carrying an injury, ASM needs to be matched up on that side.

ASM wants to play on our left wing so he can cut in onto his right, but against Alonso he needs to take him on and cross with his right. ASM should be able to torch Alonso all day.

That said, as I recall, against Southampton we never seemed to recognize that they were playing Stephens, a center back, as make shift left back. I don’t recall seeing our attack try to take advantage this. The whole team was poor overall so hard to say if it would have worked any better on the day, but tactically Bruce needs to see some of these mismatches and try to take advantage.

Really good interview with Ian Holloway on sky sports. Touches on project big picture a little bit and it’s interesting the hear the point of view of someone at a club that would have supposedly benefited from the whole thing. https://youtu.be/ACFXsioEyCs

Bruce seems to hate us and thinks we unreasonably get on everybodies back. It’s just him and Hendrick because theyre both rubbish. Can’t believe he thinks Hendricks done well. If he doesn’t like us he should go sign for some championship team where he’d be tolerated.

Re talksport: I think they drum up negatives about us to provoke a reaction – lots of calls!
They don’t know like we do how big Newcastle United will become! They’ll all be up out arse soon anyway, when we get new owners. Or, maybe they do know and don’t want their Arsenals or Spurs knocked off their perch or maybe keep Man Utd out of CL! Now I would LOVE that!

    Sing in the corner
From last thread, totally agree with what you are saying about Wilson, this is such a worry. Was talking to Gavin about this last night, he was asking about Wilson, I said looking positive for playing but I’m concerned in case it’s too early and goes again. He agreed as got hamstring problems when playing for us in his last season with us, Keegan brought him back a week or so early and went again and out for another 6 weeks. As he said, can’t be rushed and best to leave him till next week, mind he also did a Larrow and predicted a 2-0 loss, I of course told him he knows nowt as we will win 2-1

A while ago someone (lilo? nicky?) put up a sliding time-scale for returning from hamstring injury then suffering a repeat injury.

It’s a well known risk, you’d think a seasoned ex-player and time-served coaching team will get this right for Wilson.

Because of that tragedy in Linton last weekend
I’m gonna call him Joe 90 from now on
9 because it’s his number and 0 for his goals tomorrow, and the next game
    and the next
Hopefully he will end up like an ice cream Joe 99 but he’s a bit flakey for that

With Ashley keen to sell Newcastle for the agreed £300m and the consortium comprising Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Reuben Brothers and Amanda Staveley still extremely interested in taking charge at St James’ Park, a hearing before an arbitration panel could conceivably take place before Christmas. In reality, the case’s currently slow progress indicates it is more likely to be held at some point in the new year.

‘In the statement Ashley suggested the Premier League and its lawyers, Bird and Bird, have not exactly been accelerating the process. “The club makes no comment on the substance of the arbitration but it can confirm that it has issued arbitration proceedings against the EPL,” said Newcastle’s statement. “It is unclear when those proceedings will be resolved, given the approach of the EPL and its lawyer, Bird and Bird. Nevertheless, the club will continue to use its best efforts to press for a fair, full and timely hearing of its claim.”

‘Any such process would require pre-hearing disclosure from both parties, and sources close to the failed deal suspect the Premier League is anxious to avoid the need to make such revelations.

‘Given that PIF had pledged to invest hundreds of millions of pounds in regenerating the north-east and is believed to remain committed to the idea of buying Newcastle, the UK government is understood to harbour hope that the takeover can be resurrected. Indeed high-level intermediaries are believed to be engaged in ongoing efforts to negotiate a compromise.

‘This year the Premier League spent 17 weeks pondering the takeover and, with no decision forthcoming, the consortium eventually withdrew its offer. Had the Premier League formally rejected the bid Ashley and the would-be buyers could have appealed. It did, however, reject an offer of independent arbitration from the Premier League in the summer.

‘The Premier League declined to comment. Bird and Bird was unavailable for comment.‘

Surely if the government are now keen for this takeover to go through, for the investment into the area, they can intervene to some degree? I obviously have no idea how it all work but surely the government hold higher rank than Masters and co at the league? Surely a stern word in their ears from the government and some form of threat (similar to that letter from earlier today hinting at the government having more of an influence on footballing matters) could make Masters and co play ball and see this takeover through. If it gets dragged on and ultimately denied again, would the government not be furious and make life hell?
