Newcastle Linked With Prolific Midfielder Whose Contract Runs Out Next Summer

There was a story in The Mirror yesterday that Newcastle were keeping abreast of Burnley midfielder Jack Cork’s contract situation. The 31-year-old is out of contract in the summer and with Burnley’s ownership in flux, talks on a new contract have not begun.

While Newcastle dipped heavily into the free-agent market this past summer, including signing Jeff Hendrick after his contract ran out at Turf Moor, we just don’t see much in this link to Cork. First of all, he’ll be 32 by the start of next season, and he’s not really the type of midfielder we need at the moment.

A more realistic link could be to Austrian international Raphael Holzhauser (pictured above). Sport Witness is citing a report from Jeunes Footeux in France that Newcastle and Hertha Berlin are interested in the midfielder.

The 27-year-old is the type of midfielder Bruce covets. At 6’4″, he’s a strong force in the center of the pitch who loves to attack. He could be a much cheaper option than some of the other box to box type midfielders we’ve been linked with as his contract also runs out next summer.

Holzhauser plies his trade for Beerschot in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. He joined the club as a free agent in the summer of 2019 after leaving the Swiss club Grasshoppers.

This season he’s been nothing short of sensational scoring 8 goals with 9 assists in his 12 appearances. Last season, he put up gaudy numbers as well scoring 7 while assisting on 9. His form has seen him drafted into the full Austrian side where he made his debut last month.

Holzhauser is a product of the Rapid Vienna Academy in his native Austria. He’s had loan spells in Germany with Augsburg and Stuttgart before joining Grasshoppers on a free in 2018.

The midfielder is currently in talks with Beerschot to renew his contract. However, if he keeps up his current form, it may be in his best interest to become a free agent for the third time. He’ll have some better clubs to choose from this time around, maybe even Newcastle United.

    Slacks?
With a sharp edge crease down the front of course

Talking of nights out I recall from rugby days a great place top of Osborne Road where there is a small parade of shops opposite the church. One poor sod was so knackered after the drink he fell asleep so the whole crew maybe 10 or so did a runner. The waiters woke him and presented him with the whole mega bill.

Zlatan bought the full AC Milan squad a PS5 for Chrimbo. What a character he is and if anyone hasn’t seen the Zlatan moments on YouTube it’s a must watch

If Munster prefers beers with his curry rather than wine then that’s up to him. I pity the poor waiter though at the end of the night when Munster starts doing what this club will be doing if we don’t get shut of Brucie :- ‘ Dropping Points’ !

For those of you further afield

    https://www.valleyrestaurants.co.uk/

Get on the train at Newcastle Central Station, staff in full ceremonial dress meet you, get a drink on board, take your order and all waiting for you when you walk off the train in Corbridge. Food is awesome.

No doubt covid is restricting this but give them a go when you can.
Last train back to Newcastle afters.
    Good craic and good folk.

Tried Argos, John Lewis, Amazon, Smyths and everywhere was sold out.

Martinez, good choice but get rid of Pickford and go for a 4M non playing keeper, Everton aren’t keeping CS and he’s way too expensive to sit on the bench, Forster at Soton is waiting in the wings if Mcarthy loses his place.
    Lamptey:keep
Keane, again Everton aren’t keeping CS and I think he’s done his goals quota this season and after GW11 have really bad fixtures. Coufal or Cresswell at WHam have much better fixtures and much better underlying stats.
James: some half decent fixtures, excellent stats but not guaranteed game time, chance you take.
Salah: if I was on a WC I would swap him for Bruno or Mane.
    Hamez:keep for next three
    Capn Jack: keep keep keep
Zaha: not a fan of his but if you’ve got him, good fixtures, in form so keep.
    Werner: keep
    Wilson: swap for Watkins
Kane: entirely a decision based on gut feeling, I’m selling to free up cash but might score two against Man City
White: get a Leeds def in as they have great fixtures after GW12 and will have atracking returns, Dallas or Ayling
    Rice:swap with Soueck immediately
    😀
    Coady:Kilman
    Job done
    UT/W
Remember this is just my opinion and could go tits up at any time as it sometimes does, however I do spend a bit of time studying underlying stats, using player comparisons and listening to all available podcasts 😀

Just seen the trailer for a brand new movie called We Are The Geordies.

It focuses on the Championship winning side of 2016-17, and we think it’s epic.

    Looks good

    You asked

The mobile phone NHS COVID-19 app is available in Welsh, Bengali, Urdu, Gujarati, Punjabi (Gurmukhi script), Chinese (Simplified), Romanian, Turkish and Arabic (Modern Standard)…

    Why?

Keep up Betty’s. It’s because Bowis proclaimed Track and Trace as ‘World Beating’. Trouble is, he forgot to tell Dildo Harding!

You and many like you might think the new film’s worth a look, but there’s one or two who post on here might feel that promotion could’ve been achieved without Rafa.
