Newcastle vs. Chelsea – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Poll Result

This is the team we predicted Steve Bruce would name for Saturday’s match against Chelsea. It has four changes from the loss to Southampton.

This team is predicated on the assumption that Steve Bruce will not risk any players still recovering from injury. That leaves him short upfront with Callum Wilson hopefully being saved for next week.

Both Ciaran Clark and Matty Longstaff need an opportunity after barely featuring this year due to injury. They are both fit now and should be pushing for their chance.

Bruce revealed that a handful of Magpies are getting close to a return. However, we expect him to be without seven tomorrow, at least for the starting eleven. Wilson could get a spot on the substitutes bench.

Newcastle Injuries

Dwight Gayle (knee), Martin Dubravka (heel), Paul Dummett (hamstring), Ryan Fraser (hamstring), Jonjo Shelvey (groin – late fitness test), Callum Wilson (hamstring – late fitness test), Matt Ritchie (shoulder – late fitness test)

Chelsea Injuries

Christian Pulisic (hamstring), Thiago Silva (late return from international duty), Kai Havertz (Covid-19 – late fitness test), Ben Chilwell (back – late fitness test)

Our readers are obviously not optimistic about this one with 75% expecting a loss. That’s the likely result but you never know as last season Isaac Hayden pulled a rabbit out of a hat in the final minutes to get a shock win.

How Will Newcastle Fare Against Chelsea On Saturday?

The most important thing is to see an improvement from our last match. We seem to say that far too often. But the run of fixtures following this one are crucial and putting in a competent performance tomorrow could be key to sparking a decent run over the next month.

    Wor Barlie,
Me and wor lass were in Oxford for the first time about ten years ago and we were in this pub where a big group were drawing lots about FF football. I’ve always wanted to play but the fact this big group were drawing lots made me think it was a quite complex set up and was put off ever since. It took two years ago for a lad at work to asked me on a Thursday night do I want in league and i said it’s way to complicated. He said is it foot.
I paid ยฃ20 chose a LB RB two CB”s , saw Kante and Ferdaninho were cheap so thought I’d got a right result getting those two non scoring excellent defensive midfielders in my team. Went for golden boot winner Kane who’s never scored in August for 12 years etc etc
So much so, the blogs biggest footballing expert catchy in Norway patronisingly asked me how I was doing ๐Ÿ™
    I ended up finishing 100th out of 197 catchy was 168 ๐Ÿ˜€
The next year I finished 5th out of 200 so was unbelievably proud of that ๐Ÿ˜€

    WB,

I remember when I first started going to games…..I was about 13, would meet up with school mates at Durham train station, get the train to Newcastle central

Walk up to the ground, we always went in the gallowgate end…..the only thing I remember is the huge concrete barriers that you got squashed against.

Very different from today…I know a lot of people complain about the state of st James currently (and they obviously know more than I do).

But when I see the stadium on the tv, I get goose bumps……itโ€™s magnificent

I’ve been working my way through he Last Of The Summer Episodes, didn’t watch all of them when they were first shown.

The one I watched tonight was the one where Compo saw Nora Batty in suspenders.

Really sad but still funny somehow!

I remember the old St James Park with the concrete barriers and they used to really pack people in. It was surprising that no one was crushed to death when a goal was scored.

I often used to walk from Dunston across the Redheugh Bridge to get to the match.

I was about 12 when I first went with my school pal and his dad, Leazes wing paddock to watch Supermac, Tudor, Hibbit and Co. Magical under the floodlights.

Graduated into the Leazes shed with my mates as teenager, it was scary at times.

Watched Keegan’s first game as a player from the Gallowgate, roughly Strawberry side behind the goal, never experienced anything like it, still get goosebumps thinking about it.

Gravitated back to the Leazes end while Gazza was setting the world alight.

Watched the entertainers from there, still there now, was at Rafa’s last game, took about 20 mins for him and the team to make their way round for our applause, he looked me right in the eye and transmitted his apology for not staying on.
