Clark, Hayden, And Joelinton Get Starts For Newcastle Against Chelsea

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s return to St. James’ Park against Chelsea. It has four changes from the loss to Southampton.

It looks like Bruce may have gone back to the dreaded 5-4-1 that was so anemic last season unless Jacob Murphy is drafted into a central role. It’s a recall for Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Joelinton, and Isaac Hayden.

Callum Wilson is thankfully not risked but it’s going to be Joelinton upfront by himself once again. That formula did not work last season. Let’s hope Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin can get forward to provide some threat.

Here is who Frank Lampard will send out for the visitors. This is still a very strong side even without some of their more dynamic players like Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

Newcastle must show a reaction from the performance two weeks ago at St. Mary’s. In what has been a campaign of peaks and valleys, some semblance of consistency has to be the goal. A result may not be on the cards today, but a decent display is a must.

Howay The Lads!

Good early afternoon all, except those of us here stateside. Good morning to all of us.
Hoping for a respectable game from us, but not getting hopes
    real high.
I’m expecting to see Carroll at some point in this match.

Issue with Lascelles is he is a row z cb. Having more than one really hurts the team and we have Fernandez as well. You need cbs who can carry the ball and find passes which is why we always looked best when Lejuerne was fully fit.

    Agree, Moonraker.
And the strong bench to go along with that starting lineup.

5 at the back 2 in midfield.

Kante won’t even need to get out of first gear.

I can see us camped in our own half for 90mins.

The way I’m getting through this one is a good rest for injured players, likely a loss but a good run out after break.

Then lets get Wilson, Fraser and Jonjo back on the field next week!

And Mund, Chelsea have put at least three past teams in 3 of their last 5.
    Doom and gloom?

Lads I know travelling can take it out of you but not nearly as much when you habent had a game to play beforehand, if he was jet lagged he would have had two days to recover, most people are completely back to normal once they get home and have good night to sleep it off. On top of that Miggy is our fittest player.

Sorry I get what ye are saying but I dont believe it for a second, for me hes been left out because things arent right, and Bruce is using this as an excuse to keep him out of the team.

Suppose we should just be thankful Bruce hasnt played Wilson. Much as I would love him to play, dont think can take a chance this quickly after a hamstring, hopefully he will be there or there abouts for Friday. Also turning the clock back 18 months or so for the HAaden S Longstaff partership that worked so well before. Only other changes I would have made would have been Almiron providing he is fully ready after his flight, sure he would have been and Carol for Joelinton as I think he could do more damage

What I dont get about the Miggy issue was if the club asked him to come home then surely he has to follow orders, so they clearly didnt demand he comes home they simply asked would he mind coming home early. And considering he has family in Paraguay and considering its probably his only chance to get to seem them in these times, theres no way I’d come home either, if they left it to me to decide which they clearly did for Miggy.

Because clubs can stop players playing for their international side if they so choose. When it comes down to it clubs are the boss and the ones who make the ultimate decision, so no way am I blaming Miggy for not coming home. He wasnt even playing so tiredness wouldnt even have been an issue.

I dont think this match is going to be a disaster, I dont think we have quite enough going forward to win without Miggy starting, but I dont think Chelsea will be 100%.

    BT Sport

    Has us down as 343.

We all know it will be 523, 703, or more than likely 901 for the whole game.

Defend for your lives for 80 mins followed by 10 min of hoof ball when Carrol comes on at the end.

    From the BBC:
‘Just watching Steve Bruce and Frank Lampard having a jovial chat on the touchline at St James’.
    I wonder what they’re saying,
“I’m parking the bus today Frank, these lot think they’re a big club, seriously , who the foot do they think they’re are, won foot all for years, I’m getting away with murder here, cheers for the nice comments during the week by the way”

    i predict a 4 nil hammering.

strategy for today from bruce is simple. pass the ball to ASM and dribble 60 yards to chelsea goal and hope something happens. or hoof it to joelinton and hope something comes out of it.

the statistic pic shown by Mund, is scary. 20th in everything related to attack. wow.

Alas I don’t really expect any points at all today – just hope the goal difference doesn’t take a bashing!

Irish not sure how many long haul flights you have taken but depending on the person it can definitely affect you for a few days. If you take into account having to not make a mistake against a very good Chelsea side

After losing top scorer Callum Wilson, Steve Bruce has brought in defender Ciaran Clark who, with 10 PL goals for NUFC, is the most prolific starter in the side #threat
