Clark, Hayden, And Joelinton Get Starts For Newcastle Against Chelsea

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s return to St. James’ Park against Chelsea. It has four changes from the loss to Southampton.

It looks like Bruce may have gone back to the dreaded 5-4-1 that was so anemic last season unless Jacob Murphy is drafted into a central role. It’s a recall for Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Joelinton, and Isaac Hayden.

Callum Wilson is thankfully not risked but it’s going to be Joelinton upfront by himself once again. That formula did not work last season. Let’s hope Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin can get forward to provide some threat.

Here is who Frank Lampard will send out for the visitors. This is still a very strong side even without some of their more dynamic players like Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

Newcastle must show a reaction from the performance two weeks ago at St. Mary’s. In what has been a campaign of peaks and valleys, some semblance of consistency has to be the goal. A result may not be on the cards today, but a decent display is a must.

Howay The Lads!

1 clean sheet in 9 from a defensive team.

All those newcastle fans who rate Fernandez, think again! He’s our worst defender by a mile.. No technical skills whatsoever. We’ll get hammered you can see it coming.. Also did Bruce get a beating? His face looks even worse than usual

OP, not sure any of them understand the meaning of “attack”.

Fernandez is being played on the right to accommodate Clarke … Not a good idea
15% possession, is that a new low ?

Relax guys we might be able to scrape a 0-2 loss which Bruce would see as a decent performance

frankly, this is what we are served up week in week out. what am i suppose to be watching? seeing the opposition knock it about with 70-80 over possession?

how are pundits defending this garbage?
make no mistake, this team will be lucky to stay up.

by end of december, don’t be surprised if we are in the relegation zone.

It’s just embarrassing but Bruce is a great man manager of course. He’s being outclassed by a distinctly championship level manager.

We’re losing ffs go for it and move up the pitch!!!

So tired of watching us try and defend for the full 90 mins even when we’re losing!

I always get excited to watch us play and then when I am I realise I am sat there watching The OTHER team play whoever that may be. We never have the ball and when we get it we just make terrible passes and lose it within 10 seconds. Rinse and repeat. Terrible to watch and the idiot in me thinks this time it will be different.

It looked like we dont even have 20% possession in the match so far, and astonishingly we have even less. 19%. This isn’t even a competition.

What is the work in progress hes talking about?

Whats his vision for this side?

If he can’t answer he should FO!

Take a defender off and stick Almiron in at 10. Give us a chance for Christ sake. If it stays like this, at best we lose 1v0. We have absolutely no attacking threat whatsoever.

Time for plan B, hold on, aren’t we already playing plan B? Bruce couldn’t get the side playing his plan A.

It’ll be a case of “stick to the plan lads” — we’ll probably see a few glimpses of quality in the final 5 minutes after some morale boosting subs have been made.

How is it, no matter how much you know this type of thing is going to happen… you still cannot help but be disappointed.
