Clark, Hayden, And Joelinton Get Starts For Newcastle Against Chelsea

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s return to St. James’ Park against Chelsea. It has four changes from the loss to Southampton.

It looks like Bruce may have gone back to the dreaded 5-4-1 that was so anemic last season unless Jacob Murphy is drafted into a central role. It’s a recall for Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Joelinton, and Isaac Hayden.

Callum Wilson is thankfully not risked but it’s going to be Joelinton upfront by himself once again. That formula did not work last season. Let’s hope Jacob Murphy and Allan Saint-Maximin can get forward to provide some threat.

Here is who Frank Lampard will send out for the visitors. This is still a very strong side even without some of their more dynamic players like Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic.

Newcastle must show a reaction from the performance two weeks ago at St. Mary’s. In what has been a campaign of peaks and valleys, some semblance of consistency has to be the goal. A result may not be on the cards today, but a decent display is a must.

Howay The Lads!

If you’re not Munster, you’re giving him serious competition for posting stupidity.

Rafa’s team were even worse to watch, although the results were better. But I remember watching rafa’s team sometimes was atrocious too. I’d rather have Howe than rafa back

Nufc cursed is clearly a troll don’t feed him lads. I really can’t wait for fans back in the stadium as Bruce will want to walk himself when he realises what he will face. This guy is not only destroying us as we speak but he will be forcing our best players like Almiron and ASM to leave. Can anyone blame them for wanting to get out of here ASAP when you watch that with no attacking intent at all? Nobody would want to play in that side at all.

    Rafas teams worse to watch?

I’d rather watch a organised team than a clueless one any day, no comparison between the two sides.

    As daft as it sounds…

I think Chelsea are there for the taking.

They are pushing high and leaving acres of space in their half, if we can control the ball and actually pass it to Jo and ASM quickly we could yet get something.

If we concede a second though that’s probably it.

Get Almiron on for Longstaff and go for it.

Well this is an awful watch. Playing defensively can be effective when done correctly, unfortunately once again we look like we have no plan. Everyone behind the ball and if we get it we……oh, nobody knows. You have to be effective at turning defends into attack for defensive football to work. We can’t do it and that lies with Bruce and the coaching staff. Our players look like they have no idea what they should do when they actually get possession. Sums it up when longstaff has is arms out at a free kick asking what he should do. Team is set up to fail. How can people defend this management and playing style? Our only hope every game is that it falls luckily to st maximin and he’s able to beat a few people. When that doesn’t happen, we are clueless.

***** it beggars belief the ignorance of some posters or wums on here i’ll leave you to decide which category they fit into*****

I cant believe people are still arguing about Benitez , ffs he is history and did bugger all anyway, the way some go on about him you would think he won us the title .
He got us promoted playing shite football, ok we were well organised, but that was about it.
He is better than Bruce, but WOW, big deal.
