Improved Second Half Not Enough As Newcastle Fall To Chelsea 2-0

It’s an expected result at St. James’ Park with Newcastle falling to Chelsea. The second half was slightly better but once again the Magpies created very few chances and lose 2-0 for a second time running.

Newcastle emerged from the tunnel making one change with Jamaal Lascelles being replaced by Fabian Schar. The captain suffered a knee injury late in the first half.

Newcastle looked improved to start the second half. However, in the 53rd minute, Fabian Schar was pickpocketed by Timo Werner who was through on goal. The German centered a pass that was intercepted by Fernandez saving Fabian’s blushes.

The lads continued to hold their own at the hour mark with some decent buildup play but still could fashion nothing to threaten Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal.

Chelsea then doubled their lead in the 65th minute as Timo Werner carved through Newcastle on a counter. The German played Tammy Abraham through and he slotted it past Darlow to make it 2-0.

Steve Bruce was preparing to bring Miguel Almiron for Javier Manquillo on at the time and made the change after the goal.

Newcastle came very close to bringing one back when Sean Longstaff launched a thunderbolt from outside the box that rattled the crossbar in the 72nd minute. That was just Newcastle’s fifth shot of the afternoon.

Steve Bruce made his final change withdrawing Saint-Maximin for Andy Carroll in the 74th minute. He replaced Joelinton upfront as the Brazilian went to the left and Almiron on the right. Murphy had moved to wingback when Almiron came on.

Newcastle basically went into damage control to see out the match. The second half performance was improved from the first forty-five. However, that’s not saying too much as Chelsea completely dominated the first half.

Newcastle again offered little threat in the attacking third managing just 1 shot on target. We’ve now lost two straight with a stretch of winnable matches coming up. The next month could be make or break for Newcastle.

On a bright note, we had a shot on target through deflection by zouma.

    Promising signs going forward.

    Unused Sub

As well as destroying the structure of the team, he’s probably done for the players’ morale too. His signings really must be wondering what the hell possessed them to sign up to him.

Mike, forget the takeover circus, you act tough on occasions so let’s do it one more time, Cabbage Patch Kid needs to go, then put your balls between your legs and beg Rafa to come back, if you can’t do that then beg Potch to take over with January as your go to so he can get some pivotal players needed.

charnley never learns, everyone knew mclaren was a shocking choice and we embarrassed ourselves pursuing him from derby not once but twice. bruce’s appointment and compo to SW was even worse.

Bruce, McCardew, allardyce and sounness such really sh-t managers and just need pulis to complete the set.

Who in their right mind ever though bruce was a good idea.

Great comments from Jake Humphrey pushing Jenas to make it clear that this is Bruce’s fault. Finally a pundit who sees it the way we do.

Hopefully Grealish has a good game for Villa. I am up against Romford this week, and he has triple captained Grealish. I wouldn’t mind losing to see Romford finally get off the mark.

I have by sheer coincidence used my triple captain in the same game week (Cavani) — Romf is going to be eerily unlucky if he loses another game week.

… time for a well deserved drink after those 90 minutes of torture.

3 wins from our last 15 games.38 points from our last 38 games.Sigh.Yet the media think he is doing a great job,yes if your a Sunderland fan. This is exactly why we didn’t want him in the first place. This is why 10000 fans were lost last season.

We could’ve had this team out today:

    Darlow

    Yedlin Fernandez Willems

    Diame

    Thauvin Merino Saint-Maximin

    Almiron

    Rondon Wilson

Great team that. All for an extra £16m. The club’s a disgrace. Diame is badly missed.

Humphrey is the best football presenter bar none.

    He actually researches for himself.

I’ve been a big fan for years, always makes the counter argument against the regeneration and doesn’t let pundits get lazy.

Seen him brief quite a few ex pros on their half arsed opinions.

    Nufc-83,
I still don’t get it how people think life under Rafa was so poor. In the Championship we had the joint best attack and the joint best defence. In a lot of teams one is sacrificed for the other. In the PL we had to sacrifice our attack as Ashley tightened the purse strings on promotion. Like you said once Rondon and Almiron were added that well drilled defence was there plus goals in the team. As you say, how can anyone not see what was being built.

I think we need to get someone in who’s better than Rafa. Rafa got rid of key players like Mbemba, Thauvin, Merino, Abeid, Mbabu, Doumbia etc. All decent players. Saivet and Lazaar should be starting for us today and we should have played Lazaro more and signed him again.

Tuned in around the 15 min mark and turned it off at 30 min mark. Bruce is absolutely gutless and has no footballing brain in his body. This team has more talent than any team since mclaren and the football is worse than under carver. Might as well just have the players lock arms and stand on the goal line. Need to luck into a few results on this easy set of fixtures coming up and pray that the takeover somehow goes through so they can at least bring in a manager that’ll keep us up

I would say that left back, central midfield and up front are our weak areas. Strongest position is in goal and centre back. We need another winger. Murphy doesn’t have the confidence to play in this league. Gives the ball away and can’t beat a plaer. Hayden is awful and lets the opposition walk all over the middle of the park as Steve Mcmanaman said.
