Improved Second Half Not Enough As Newcastle Fall To Chelsea 2-0

It’s an expected result at St. James’ Park with Newcastle falling to Chelsea. The second half was slightly better but once again the Magpies created very few chances and lose 2-0 for a second time running.

Newcastle emerged from the tunnel making one change with Jamaal Lascelles being replaced by Fabian Schar. The captain suffered a knee injury late in the first half.

Newcastle looked improved to start the second half. However, in the 53rd minute, Fabian Schar was pickpocketed by Timo Werner who was through on goal. The German centered a pass that was intercepted by Fernandez saving Fabian’s blushes.

The lads continued to hold their own at the hour mark with some decent buildup play but still could fashion nothing to threaten Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal.

Chelsea then doubled their lead in the 65th minute as Timo Werner carved through Newcastle on a counter. The German played Tammy Abraham through and he slotted it past Darlow to make it 2-0.

Steve Bruce was preparing to bring Miguel Almiron for Javier Manquillo on at the time and made the change after the goal.

Newcastle came very close to bringing one back when Sean Longstaff launched a thunderbolt from outside the box that rattled the crossbar in the 72nd minute. That was just Newcastle’s fifth shot of the afternoon.

Steve Bruce made his final change withdrawing Saint-Maximin for Andy Carroll in the 74th minute. He replaced Joelinton upfront as the Brazilian went to the left and Almiron on the right. Murphy had moved to wingback when Almiron came on.

Newcastle basically went into damage control to see out the match. The second half performance was improved from the first forty-five. However, that’s not saying too much as Chelsea completely dominated the first half.

Newcastle again offered little threat in the attacking third managing just 1 shot on target. We’ve now lost two straight with a stretch of winnable matches coming up. The next month could be make or break for Newcastle.

Chelsea stroll to win over listless Newcastle.

    Thanks for nothing Bruce.
I don’t pay a lot of money for two season tickets to watch a once proud club to be trodden on like that.

For me, Bruce did a decent job for MA standard. Just keep us in the league and we’ll talk again another week..

No point blaming players when Bruce lines them up in front of the firing squad blindfolded.

John Carver was the best manager in the league. Accused Mike Williamson of getting sent off deliberately.

I think the myth that players are so much happier under Brucie can now also be put to bed as more s.h1te.
And his legendary man-management skills that have gotten him nothing over his career is another baseless point brought up by the Brucie brigade to push their nonsense agenda.

Get rid of Bruce but who’s going to come in knowing he’ll be out of the door when the takeover happens or knowing he’ll be working under Ashley’s short-term plans?
