Steve Bruce has spoken after Newcastle’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. It’s another poor performance with Newcastle not offering much in attack and being pegged deep for much of the match.
The second half was slightly better with Newcastle seeing more of the ball. However, they weren’t able to do too much with it having only one shot on target all afternoon.
The head coach said the following about the game per Newcastle’s Twitter account:
“We got off to an awful start against a very good Chelsea team and unfortunately we went far too deep in the first half.
“Second half we went higher up the pitch and were better. It was our best part of the game when we conceded the second.”
Newcastle came out of the gate with intent but that lasted all of three minutes. It was then all Chelsea for the remainder of the first half. We agree with Bruce that the second goal came when Newcastle were looking their brightest.
Bruce did name two Magpies who he thought played very well. They were Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, who did have decent afternoons under the circumstances.
“I thought Sean Longstaff did very well. I thought Joelinton played very well on the day. We had a really decent spell against them and that’s hard to do. They’re a good team with good players.”
Joelinton was deployed up front in place of the injured Callum Wilson. The Brazilian had 2 key passes and was fouled 5 times. Longstaff completed over 90% of his passes while also doing a job defensively.

Comment #1It seems when a poster doesn`t pull his plonker over Benitez`s achievements at the Toon, he is deemed clueless.
Benitez is a better manager than Bruce, no question about that, i am not comparing the two, i`m making that clear, but what did he achieve which makes him so idolised over someone like Chris Houghton for example?
I have lost count how many fans were posting on here saying how fed up they were of watching shite football under Benitez, it`s there for all to read.
I`m sure some fans expected us to qualify for europe, or even win the lge when he first set foot into the club, why?
Benitez has won nowt for years and is a has been in my eyes, better than Bruce but nothing special NOW

You know what I think as I’ve had this convo a few times with you.
The question is do you believe what I said?
I doubt you do but that’s fine but I’m not lying and to me getting told what I did there was only one choice as it wasn’t really the information it was the timing of what I got told as I’ve explained

Comment #4Glad I spent the day decorating instead of tuning in for what sounds like another shite sandwich.
First competitive match I’ve missed in many years and don’t intend to ever see any of it.
One look at the stats and I know how it went, a very familiar showing.

Comment #5Mund no one is accusing you of lying but not one other source is making that claim, yet dozens are claiming Bruce wasn’t even on the original list ,

Comment #6Where on God’s earth does Bruce get his tactics from?
The opposition managers know that hell Park 10 players behi d the nball for the best part of 70 minutes. During that time we offer no attacking threat to the opposition who can then play passing football to their hearts conebt and whoosh find a gap and score.
We’re then one down and the tactical master class of hanging onto nil each is sunk without trace.
P%ssing in the wind and its blowing back in our faces.

Regards to evidence none but a txt which means Naff all.
I’m not here shouting I know this or that but with regards to other names it always confused me as it was the day after or the one after that of Rafa leaving that I was told about Bruce being the main man they are after.
Honestly I was like probably like any other fan with my reaction. I was like your having a laugh the fans will string Ashley up no chance that’s happening. From Rafa to Bruce!!! Nah wouldn’t happen.
So obviously time went by and we hear this manager and that manager turning us down and then boom we have Bruce.
Everything he said came true mate so for me it was always Bruce

Comment #24hibbit the one thing that just made me think more about this is you saying to me your the only one claiming it and everywhere is reporting different.
Made me think and just for a second believe I’m telling the truth, that how much more has this tyrant got away with down the years that we don’t know about? What else has went under the radar?
I think he is a PR master to get away with what he has done

I watched boring predictable crap under Rafa now I’m watching unpredictable crap under Bruce – basically same tactics pass along the back line get closed down back to keeper who hoofs it long to our lone striker or to our midfield who comes short to get the ball who passes back to the keeper. We are so slow on what we are doing easily get closed down or pass to one of their players.
Me if Bruce gets the sack would appoint a young manager – Maybe someone with some edge like Barton who would shake the place up for better for worse – but cannot go on with this rubbish year after year

Comment #32Uncertain, as mentioned earlier, IMO. Brighton’s. Potter is the man to transform NUFC, he would change our style if we have any, and when the takeover happens he could easily adapt accordingly, my opinion.

Comment #33Charlie you were one of the few who called out rafa’s football for what it was, fair play to you. And before nutters like Hibbitt get cross, Im sure you also believe that rafa is better than Bruce which he obviously is. But progressive? Nope.
WL you are also correct Re Houghton.
But we all know that if Bruce was sacked, and Dyche was available, we know who wud be incoming.
We haven’t seen decent football here in years from a manager who believes in creative positive play, it’s awful.

Comment #34Time to go Bruce as “you don’t know what yer doing!” Tactically clueless! Just 28 % possession and only one shot on goal. Blaming everyone bar himself. If he was only pleased with two players what the hell were the others doing?
If he isn’t sacked then once again we are in a relegation battle again. Almiron hasn’t delivered like Joelinton. Sell him for £25/30M if his agent is convinced he can find him a top rated Spanish Club. Spend the money on a decent playmaker and another recognised striker. Almiron is not a No 10 and he is being played as an extra “defender” to protect the full back. We have, in my opinion , far too many so called pacy, creative, wide lightweights & too many players past their sell by date
We must be set up to be more creative if we are to score goals. Let’s face with the players we have and the way our completely clueless manager sets us up we are not good enough to compete as a Premiership side. Yes we have 11 points from 9 games but just how many of those do we deserve to have?
Ok the four bottom clubs are extremely poor but they will improve. Get real this outfit we all love and support are Championship at best!
I think everyone is hanging their hat on the takeover being resurrected but it’s going to be at least another 6 months before that happens if ever. Lawyers/ barristers are very expensive and will string the situation along accordingly to ensure a big fat fee.
