Poll – Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player In Loss To Chelsea?

Another poor display from Newcastle has us lose 2-0 for the second time running. However, this result was to be expected, and to be honest the scoreline could have been much worse.

The massive gulf in quality between the two sides was clearly evident. However, Chelsea never pushed themselves to the limit and settled for a comfortable outing at St. James’ Park. If they had more of a killer instinct it could have been a complete horror show for Newcastle.

All things considered, a 2-0 defeat to the Blues, who move to the top of the Premier League with the win, is not the worst result in the world. But it’s the same Newcastle we’ve seen far too often – outstanding goalkeeping with little else to get excited about.

Karl Darlow, once again, made some outstanding saves. To be fair, Newcastle’s backline held up well but did have some costly moments. Federico Fernandez tapped a cross in for an own goal and Timo Werner carved through the defense on a break on the second goal.

A second bright spot was the play of Sean Longstaff, who had a very good second half. The local lad did the work of two men in the midfield and was unlucky not to open his account for the season with a blast from distance that hit the crossbar.

However, like so often, there was little going for Newcastle once again. We were just outclassed by a very good Chelsea side, who didn’t need to push themselves too hard for a comfortable win.

Makes no difference if Bruce was their first choice or not. If all those others turned them down and they were left with him then that says it all. And Ashley now knows that no manager with any ambition would work for him.

He was the only choice mate and all the stuff we heard of this manager turning us down here and there was a well executed PR move

Where does it say that Bruce has good man management skills?

Young Kell Watts looks like he is getting a pasting down at Fleetwood.
Could be worth having a daft fiver on Joey Barton`s side to win the lge.
I got my prediction right last season with Coventry and won a few quid for my efforts.

i personally think Bruce has lost the dressing room, apart from his chosen few who have been reward with lucrative new contact extensions

Ashley has appointed one competent manager in 13 years (I’m ignoring Keegan mark 2 as that was a stitch up getting him in and then having Dennis wise above him), that man being Rafa, and he contacted NUFC. Ashley drove him away but seems happy to trust Bruce with his £300m investment. It would actually be quite funny if Bruce took us down with no fans to blame. Just how would all the pundits explain that one.

Hi Mikey, it’s Amanda here, unfortunately for you the PIF watched the match, their offer has been revised down accordingly, if your legal team do the business and you manage to stay in the PL you’ll get £200M, if there’s relegation it’s £150M.

One moment Mandy, Burb, hic, splat!!! aaargh, Tell the cheeky fckers to kiss my ass!!!

Don’t get me started with pundits mate as I’ve had enough of the piss takers.

The only thing we can be thankful for with Ashley and his time here is the financial state the club as been in over the years and if it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t of had the Saudis knocking at the door bar Staveley ofc.

But even that isn’t something to be thankful for as the club suffered big time with no real investment or plan of progression and we sat here for 13 years stagnating.

Hopefully it won’t be long before we can put this horrible recurring nightmare behind us and get back to remembering how being a football fan really feels

It seems when a poster doesn`t pull his plonker over Benitez`s achievements at the Toon, he is deemed clueless.
Benitez is a better manager than Bruce, no question about that, i am not comparing the two, i`m making that clear, but what did he achieve which makes him so idolised over someone like Chris Houghton for example?
I have lost count how many fans were posting on here saying how fed up they were of watching shite football under Benitez, it`s there for all to read.
I`m sure some fans expected us to qualify for europe, or even win the lge when he first set foot into the club, why?
Benitez has won nowt for years and is a has been in my eyes, better than Bruce but nothing special NOW

Marcelino was a centre back. Hayden, Simpson and Dummett are all awful players. We would’ve done so much better without them.

Didn’t rate Gary Speed to be honest. Preferred Hugo Viana, Hamann, Sissoko, Batty, Lee, Dyer, Merino etc.

That was our problem back in the early 2000’s. We should have got rid of Speed and signed better defenders to replace Bramble, Hughes and O’Brien etc. If we had Fernandez and Lejuene in that team plus someone like N’Golo Kante, we would’ve won the league.

Yes well done for making Schar the scapegoat when he ACTUALLY CARES and is ACTUALLY A GOOD FOOTBALLER. The fact we are working under a completely inept manager and useless owner seems to be lost on most fans.
To have Longstaff as man of the match is dumbfounding as he did absolutely nothing for 80 minutes.
I turned it off again before the final whistle which is a record.
Just keep us up, Ashley p*ss off then we will have hope.

The truth is, we have suffered from bad managers, bang average players, and incompetent managers for 13 years. I can’t name any standout players in our squad apart from Saint maximin and Almiron. we have had good players in the past that we let go, rondon, thauvan, sissoko, diame, willems, lozaro, mbabu, toney, merino to name a few.we have a team of average players, but ok isnt good enough when your Newcastle united, all we want is a team that grafts can pass the ball and plays good attactive football, but with the current squad of players and our terrible manager its just not going to happen. we need a complete clear out of not only the manager, but the board, and playing staff, the players just arent good enough and no player is going to enjoy playing for this team part from the money, we never win anything, we always stuck playing for nothing but sitting bottom half of the table, the club is a joke at the minute and i can only see us surviving this season yet again, its just not good enough.

sacking bruce, and bringing in poch or some other good manager, clearing out the deadwood. we have a lot of deadwood lingering about taking from our wage bill. getting two top-quality midfielders in as Shelvey and Hayden just arent good enough its as simple as that. Longstaff brothers are a long way off playing the first team, we need another striker, sell joelinton gayle and caroll, and get somone like odsonne edouard from celtic, we have way too many crappy or average strikers, average isnt good enough. simple. our defence is solid but needs a new wing back as backup, sell yedlin and maybe clark and bring in ben white from brighton. its so obvious what needs to be done, but at the end of the day it all comes down to money, its something we will never have under Ashley and extremley annoying, we have the base of a good team, it just needs a reshape and a manager that knows what he’s actually doing.
