The Telegraph is reporting that Newcastle are considering a January loan swoop for Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori. The 22-year-old has made just one substitute appearance in the league this season.
Tomori has not made any of Frank Lampard’s last five league squads and only been an unused substitute in Chelsea’s four Champions League matches. He did start both of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup ties in September.
Tomori declined a loan move to West Ham on the final day of the summer window and has not played since. So it seems almost certain the young England international will move on loan next month.
It’s been reported recently that Mike Ashley will only sanction loan moves in January. It had been claimed that Bruce would be supported if necessary.
However, the upcoming arbitration case against the Premier League and the fact that fans have still not been allowed back to St. James’ Park has changed Ashley’s stance. Newcastle still have their two domestic loan slots open so Tomori could fill one of those.
The Chelsea youth product signed an extension to 2024 last December. He started 14 league matches last season before the New Year. However, after January came, Tomori made just one league appearance.
While he did play in the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup, he didn’t play a single minute for Chelsea after lockdown. Overall the center-back has made 26 appearances for Chelsea with 2 goals and 1 assist.
He made his debut for England last November. Tomori was a second-half substitute in the 4-0 Euro qualifying win at Kosovo. He’s had loan spells with Brighton, Hull City, and Derby during his rise through the Chelsea ranks.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle could face competition from at least one top European club. Though the report claims Chelsea have a good relationship with Newcastle and trust Steve Bruce after he coached Tammy Abraham when both were at Aston Villa.

Comment #5It could get to the stage where we might have no choice but to stay where we are, not a bad thing of course, but the club would be limited with it`s capacity.
Jeez, i`m getting way too ahead of myself, we still have Ashley at the end of the day.

Comment #8Lets just cancel the game on Friday gives Richie, Gayle, Shelvey etc another week to get back fitter for the next game!
Also the players might do better without a week of training by Brucey 🙂

Comment #9I think if PIF do eventually take us over, a new stadium will be inevitable but won’t happen straight away. I think they’ll wait to turn us around first, like get into Europe before pumping a lot of money into a new stadium. Need to prove we’re a sound investment first before investing another large sum into the club.

Comment #10If its the physio passing it on, don’t get injured, playing for Bruce that’s a challenge.
What a dilemma

Comment #12Think the game will get the go ahead, can’t see us not having 14 players to send to the match and that’s the only chance of getting it postponed. I wonder if the 14 players takes positions into account, like surely it would be harsh if a team had 8 defenders, 2 midfielders and 4 goalkeepers they could send to a game haha

Comment #15I suppose the first thing I would do if I was buying a football club it was looking increasingly likely I wouldn’t be able to get, is buy a load of listed buildings next to the stadium that had been bought a year earlier for significantly less money 🙄

It’s a 3-0 loss isn’t it. Or is that postponed for players sent off.

Comment #17Would be interesting to know who is actually missing from covid
It might actually mean that we end up with a more balanced team than Bruce would normally put out!

Just had a confirmation regarding the 5 players who have tested positive for Covid at Newcastle United.
Lascelles, Hayden, Krafth…as I confirmed last week.
New cases are…Gayle and Dummett.

*Update on ASM.
If game goes ahead on Friday, he WILL be included in the squad.
As I mentioned last week, he isn’t injured.
Reintegrated after “bust-up” with Bruce last week.

Looks a grey area, I don’t know how they (EPL) would decide and if there would be an appeals process, Hibbit’s link to the Mag referred to UEFA sanctions…
“In the summer, when completing the 2019/20 Champions League and Europa League competitions, UEFA had ruled that any club that could not fill a 13 man squad would forfeit the match and lose 3-0. With no postponements allowed whatsoever.”
