Newcastle invite league leaders and reigning Premier League Champions Liverpool to St. James’ Park on Wednesday. Liverpool are coming off just a draw at home against West Brom while Newcastle fell 2-0 at Manchester City on Saturday.
The poor result on Sunday could mean a hungry and determined Liverpool show up to St. James’ Park. However, like Newcastle, they will be without quite a few of their star players.
Liverpool are struggling with injuries to superstars like Naby Keita, Thiago, and Diogo Jota who are all ruled out. They are also short at center-back with Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez out long-term while Joel Matip was hurt against West Brom.
Bruce got a boost when Federico Fernandez and Fabian Schar returned on Saturday. We’ll find out more (hopefully) during Bruce’s press conference if any others are returning as well as the condition of Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, and Ryan Fraser, all of who didn’t play over the weekend.
Newcastle are at a bit of a crossroads with this season not going anywhere near as well as hoped. We’ve dropped to 14th after Monday’s results and it’s a monumental task to get anything from Liverpool.
Things seem to be coming to a head with Steve Bruce biting back at some of the criticism. The expectations are not high for Liverpool but a fighting performance from his team is mandatory.

Comment #4Totally agree, Dele might as well be Messi, we have a cinder in snow’s chance of signing him on loan.
We need a genuine upgrade for the engine room anyway, not so much further forward, but who’s available, and who would come?
It’s a mess.

Comment #5Looks like the odds on loosing are even greater alas poor Brucie. When you watch Leeds you see mostly the same Championship players vastly improved with a decent coach. The same with Villa et al. When and where has our Brucie actually improved a player as i am struggling, poor Miggy does,nt look half the player he was, off the pace and bereft of confidence, its through the team. I remember an early game at home under Rafa, Miggy broke from his half, chipped the keeper and hit the post and we all rose and clapped or sighed but applauded none the less. Where has he gone but backward under the buffoon. How many time has there been a ball on down the line but the ball has gone back usually to the keeper for another hoof to who ever. God i,m pissed off with this week after week with no sign of a take over it looks as though we are stuck. Even if we do pick up enough points to survive it will only be more of the same.
Rant over and out

Comment #6Players come for the money, and the manager, and the opportunity of first team football, but what we need is a step up on a Hendrick or a Bentaleb, and that’s a mighty long bow for us in the state we are in.

Comment #7and to play in europe
and to win things or challenge at the top of the league and final stages of cup competitions.
And to represent their countries, which is a more likely occurrence if they are playing in a team battling it out for cups and leagues and playing in europe.

Comment #22Like I’ve been saying for weeks, if we get something from the game then brilliant, any points are welcome but if we get beat then let’s make it a hefty beating so everyone can see how clueless cabbage bonce is and his mates at talksport etc can shut up for once.
Who’s ready for some extremely entertaining 18% possession, 0 shots on target football?
Bruce out!

Comment #25The media does seem to be getting the picture a little better though. That’s got to help bring this sorry saga closer to a resolution.
It is remarkable though that a club as big and famous as ours can over 4 consecutive years systematically go through a relegation, the loss of a world class coach with a plan to progress the club, the Saudi takeover collapse, all while covid is going on at the tail end of 13 years of Mike Ashley austerity and mismanagement and yet it has taken this long for the National media to start to show sufficient interest and empathy to finally begin to get it.
Doubly so because we’ve had Shearer banging on about it for donkey’s on MOTD and in his columns.
The only thing fans can do now is stay away until it’s over.

Comment #26Nicky good post there and good summary, my fear is if someone doesn`t come in and buy our club in the next year we could easily finish up like Sunderland and thats a real possibilty unfortunately.

I like and agree with the majority of your posts but your last sentence doesn’t sit easy with me…
“The only thing fans can do now is stay away until it’s over.”
There’s been many a heated discussion on here in recent years on the pro’s and con’s of boycotting.
I for one don’t feel comfortable telling another fan that he/she should either attend or boycott matches. If you are withdrawing your attendance that’s fine but please respect others in their own decision.

A Beatles song before the Scousers visit us?
Needs to be “She Loves You” as that was written in Newcastle.

Comment #33‘I saw her, and she said to me, to tell you, that she loves you, so there’s a little distance we managed to put in it which was quite interesting. The song was mostly written on 26 June 1963, in a room in the Turk’s Hotel in Newcastle, prior to The Beatles’ second performance at the city’s Majestic Ballroom.
