Newcastle were not able to follow up their tremendous draw against Liverpool with a result on Sunday. While the performance wasn’t terrible, the Foxes were just clearly the better side and came away with a 2-1 win.
It was a case of too little too late as Leicester scored twice on the break in the second half. Leicester’s first goal came as Newcastle were having arguably their best spell of the game. However, they were unable to create any shots to threaten Kasper Schmeichel.
Newcastle’s goal didn’t come until late but it was a significant one as Andy Carroll scored his first in a Newcastle shirt since 2010. While the lads pushed for an equalizer, they just couldn’t get a second goal.
Our poll for the best player is the first in quite a while that Karl Darlow hasn’t run away with. Though Darlow does come in second, it’s Fabian Schar who collects the most votes. Schar has played well since his return at Manchester City.
While Fabian put in a masterclass against Liverpool on Wednesday, Karl Darlow’s performance was otherworldly and he received most of the plaudits. Schar had a solid game on Sunday though he seemed to tire late.
He played some excellent balls from the back and was solid defensively with 3 clearances and 3 interceptions. Schar really suits playing in the middle of a back three/five but that may not be the way forward for the Magpies.
Schar is in the final year of his contract. It will be interesting to see if he gets a new one and extends his stay on Tyneside beyond this season.

Comment #2I think Schar has already decided he’s going to have the best finals of his life and land himself a four year deal on bumper wages somewhere.

Comment #5Schar is a bit of a melt as a CB and doesn’t have the pace to be CM. There is certainly class there though.
He would be better suited to the Spanish League. Hopefully he has a good season and a good euros then we can sell him on for a decent fee. At times he looks like he doesn’t want to be here.
Only problem with that plan is under the current set up he won’t actually be replaced. So we may as well just keep him.

Wearing a mask is like trying to tackle a forest blaze wearimg only a oven glove!
If you walk around a supermarket with your mask on and everyone else is Wearing theirs, you’ll still be infected!
Aerosol, look it up.
Unless it’s a hermetically sealed mask it’s pointless Wearing one.
Even the government is offering the science for you!
Wearing a mask is nothing but virtue signalling!
Same as when people condemn something on social media to look pious!
Science offered by the British Government from the start, say everything I am, if you care to read it.
From the beginning they stated “Masks are to make the public FEEL safe”
Not keep safe,”FEEL” safe.

Schar’s contract is up in the summer so no fee regardless of how well he does sadly.
As Jail said, Schar will look to land a free and nice wages and 4 year deal somewhere, cant blame him either tbh.

Comment #11You’re better off taking large doses of vitamin D than wearing a mask.
Vitamin D significantly reduces your risk in contracting any form of Coronavirus!

“3. Face masks reduce droplet dispersal. Cloth-based face masks reduce emission of
particles by variable amounts, for example [Anfinrud, NEJM 2020] showed that they are
almost completely eliminated. [Davies, Dis Med Pub Pre 2013] showed that they filtered
viral particles during coughing at about 50 to 100% of the filtration efficiency of surgical
masks, depending on fabric, with absolute filtration efficiencies of 50-70%, and about 70-
80% for oral bacteria. [van der Sande, Plos One 2008] showed 50% filtering efficiency
for airborne particles.
This evidence supports the conclusion that more widespread risk based face mask
adoption can help to control the Covid-19 epidemic by reducing the shedding of droplets
into the environment from asymptomatic individuals”
First link is an oxford study into face masks, second is an official report from DELVE on the government website about the effectiveness of wearing face masks.
OP your point about the supermarket, masks stop someone who has the virus from spreading it to others. So if everyone in the supermarket has a mask on, the risk of catching the virus is significantly less than if just one person has their mask off. It’s important to not focus on the mask as being a barrier from you getting the virus, but a barrier stopping you spreading it. Which in turn, if everyone wears their masks, stops it from spreading.

Wear it at work and all the places I’m around people.

Comment #14That’ll be my only post on it today, there are varying studies from experts that are both for and against masks. If you’re pro masks, you can find evidence to back it up. If you’re against masks, you can find evidence to back it up. It goes round and round without getting anywhere. Agree to disagree.
Schar is fantastic on his day but agree he sometimes looks uninterested. Didn’t he publicly say he wasn’t happy with our tactics? If he doesn’t agree with how we play, it’s not surprising he sometimes doesn’t give 100% and probably has his head elsewhere.

Not everyone is wearing a mask!
Reducing is different from stopping.
50% efficiency!
Unless it’s wet, fitted incorrectly, worn for a permitted length of time.
Efficiency drops rapidly from the minute it’s worn.
That’s if it’s a correctly fitted mask, 50% for aerosol, THE TOSS OF A COIN.
You do realise that the government guidelines say “face covering”
All the people in shops and hospitals wearing plastic face guards, what they protecting??
Scarves, jackets pulled up..
You will have people in your hospital walking round with just a visor on, what protection is this offering anyone?
It’s a face covering, as the government recomend, yet offers zero protection to anyone!
Your science proves what I’m saying, 50% max!
If masks were offering any real protection there would be a list of approved MASKS!
People wouldn’t be allowed to wear a pair of socks or dirty knickers to cover their face, or to walk round in public with a visor.
Face covering, not mask, does face covering suggest there’s any science involved?

Are you suggesting as we can’t 100% stop it, we shouldn’t bother trying to reduce it? Are you suggesting if 100% of people won’t wear a proper mask, they shouldn’t cover their face at all? Proper mask or not, it doesn’t take a study or scientist to know that covering your face with anything, will mean whatever aerosol you produce will be filtered down and spread less compared to having nothing on your face.
I may have missed what your point at the start of all this discussion was, but what are you suggesting because even if masks were only 1% effective, it still would make sense to wear them to keep people 1% safer.

Comment #29Morning all, so here we go again, another lockdown.
I wonder if it will go as far as workers getting furloughed like it was in March.
I am not an essential worker, i work in the car manufacturing industry.
If the government are that concerned about the spread of the virus then they should put in the measures like they did early last year.
Total lockdown, nothing else will work imo.

3 weeks ago I put up several scientific studies relating to what I’ve said. Plus other link.
I put a link up earlier this morning, there’s 100s of Scientits and Dr’s saying what I’ve said.
It’s quite basic stuff too, easily understandable.
I put a link on earlier, have a look.
Last Wednesday I beleive, was listening to BBC Radio, the presenter said
“In Wales 24 people have died of Coronavirus related issues in 2 days, that takes the Covid death rate too…”
Automatically without even knowing if any of those people had Covid, they’re on the list of Covid deaths.
Just because someone has Coronavirus it doesn’t mean they have Covid and only one in three with Covid are infectious.
Science doesn’t make the assumptions our government and media do!
