“Looked As If He Had Never Been Away” – Bruce Praises Magpie After Long Layoff

Yesterday’s FA Cup tie at Arsenal marked the return of our Player of the Season from a year ago, Martin Dubravka. The 31-year-old made some outstanding saves to keep Arsenal at bay the few times they were able to breach the disciplined Magpie defense in normal time.

Dubravka had returned to the bench for the previous two matches after missing four months with a heel injury. In that time, Karl Darlow has taken the gloves as the number one keeper due to his superb displays in the first half of the season.

Yesterday, Martin showed why he was Newcastle’s number one for 88 straight league matches since his debut in February of 2018 against Manchester United. Both keepers are pushing each other to get the maximum out of their ability.

Steve Bruce said the following after the game to NUFC TV about Dubravka’s return:

“It looked as if he had never been away. He made a great save in the first half. It looked as if we were going to keep a clean sheet which we did for 90 minutes, but couldn’t quite hold on.”

Dubravka was also interviewed by NUFC TV after yesterday’s defeat. He was obviously disappointed with how the match turned out. However, he was very happy to be back playing after his long layoff.

The Chronicle have published the following comments from Martin:

“It is disappointing because we were close to penalties but to concede two goals in extra time is a pity.

“It is disappointing, especially for me, because it has been a long time since I have been on the pitch and I didn’t dream the game would be like this.

“I enjoy every minute on the pitch and as I said, it has been a long time.

“Of course, it would have been much better if we won the game and got through to the next round but unfortunately we are not there.

“Finally I am back on the pitch with the other lads and I enjoy every minute of training and on the pitch because I really missed it.

“Obviously losing in extra time is tough but I enjoyed it.”

Newcastle are blessed to have two outstanding goalkeepers in Darlow and Dubravka. Both are signed up long-term so it could be pushing each other for years to come.

However, there’s likely to be another contender soon if Freddie Woodman can continue his tremendous growth as a player over the past two seasons on loan with Swansea.

The thing that annoys me, is when we defend a corner, why don’t we leave Miggy outside the area, so when we win the ball and try to release it, we have an out let. Instead we hoof it, and it comes straight back, putting us under extreme pressure. It takes a load of attempts to get the ball away. Surely we don’t need every one in the box to defend a corner, if we leave one player out they have to leave a couple out.

True Jail tbf I never shop there it’s garbage and they do that sort of thing a lot. Plus if they get a tech product that’s rare and a really comes into stock they hike the price right up, as I found when trying to buy a certain graphics card recently.

All strong counter attacking teams leave 2 or 3 up top or outside the box, makes the opposition keep a few back. I can’t remember the last time we had a good counter attack from an opposition corner, we are awful at inviting constant pressure on us. With Joelinton, it’s not the lads fault he had the price tag over his head, that’s our fault for paying it. He probably wouldn’t rate himself at that high of a price. He had a horrible time of having the pressure of the famous 9 whilst playing up front on his own, not even his preferred position. This season however, pressure is off with Wilson as the main man, playing in more preferred positions, but still nowhere near good enough. We have to stop the Joelinton experiment and accept our loss on him, best for the club and player to try and move him on.

    Moanster,
Kind of pales in to insignificance when compared with the Joelinton money, in fact it’s probably more comparable with the Kraft money.

Adam I agree, it’s so frustrating when we have to defend numerous corners before we can clear our lines, I also agree when someone mentioned throw one, we never claim the advantage. As for Joe, I truly feel sorry for him, like you say it’s not his fault they paid that kind of fee. He looks destroyed by it, he looked so dejected when leaving the field yesterday, and the hounding he gets on twitter. I think we should definitely send him back to Germany or where he playing prior to us. He as doing well there.

We signed the wrong Murphy was one of the most thoughtless and worn out clichés doing the rounds at the time. Well given three and a half years later one is plying his trade in the PL and the other is languishing nearer the bottom of the Championship then that wasn’t really strictly true now was it?

Carltoon, nothing more frustrating than just inviting wave after wave of attack because you’ve left yourself with no outlet. We have the pace to have an outlet every time but never set up for it. Throw ins are garbage to watch, we have no idea what to do and look scared to receive it under pressure. A throw in is just giving it back to the opposition. The hate joelinton gets must effect him, no way someone isn’t aware of how much people talk negatively of them. Anyone would suffer mentally from that on top of the famous 9 and huge transfer fee. I think it just wasn’t meant to be, the whole deal seemed off from the start and didn’t make much sense. For his sake and ours we need to find a way to move him on, probably back to Germany like you say.

I’m sure we could work out some sort of loan with Hoffenheim, maybe 50-50 on wages maybe with a potential permanent deal afterwards. Ashley and Bruce probably won’t let that happen though, too stubborn to admit it was a mistake and hadn’t worked.

There’s a theory that Joelinton is being played due to clauses in his contract or for another corrupt reason. If that’s NOT the case, what the actual hell is going on? How bad can a player be and still be guaranteed to play so often? He’s indefensibly bad

No professional football club would allow a playrs contract to contain such demands.
A small possibility would be that Joelinton’s agent managed to negotiate a clause with say a minimum number of starts — say a reasonable 8-10, but again, doubtful.

The club just wouldn’t saddle itself with such a liability.

My take would be that Joe does well in training when there is no pressure, then when he gets on the big stage, he is scared to play or shown up for the level that he is.

I haven’t posted for a while due to work, life, virus or add what you want, I am sure no one really cares either way, but I just wanted to add my twopence worth with regards to Murphy. I definitely think there is a player in there somewhere and the club should offer him a new contract.
Besides, he is better than what we have or will ever have, and I went to school with his dad. Smiley thingy.

What is more alarming, that back five who defended so well against Lpool are all in the last six months of their deal and Bruce signed none of them. In fact out of the eleven signings made under his tenure only two started that night.

Bang on the button mate. The club is in a mess and just when you think the next season couldn’t get any worse…It does.It is as if the whole club has become encumbered in to it’s own oppression .
The football is embarrassing to watch which was highlighted even more against the mighty brentford. The way we are set up to play on the back foot even at home……………I can continue all night which has alarm bells ringing which is why my love the club has chilled from what we have become.
I always use to get from fans of different clubs “Iv’e always had a soft spot for Newcastle”. Now the same lads are ridiculing us because again for what we have become under The Fat W@nker.
Hatred is a strong word but i do genuinely and wholeheartedly hate the man that has destroyed this club

Joelinton has 14 votes more collectively than all of these.

    Hendrick (1%, 4 )
    Dummett (0%, 3 )
    Murphy (0%, 2 )
    Yedlin (0%, 2 )
    S Longstaff (0%, 1 )
    Ritchie (0%, 1 )
    Krafth (0%, 1 )
    Lascelles (0%, 0 )

Dummett for me was one of our best players and he’s got three votes.

something badly wrong with the voting system?

When Rafa was manager he would not authorize the signing of Joelinton, you reap what you sow in this game, it just proves Ashley is a total bloon who know nothing about football and should not be in charge of a football club, he is on record of saying as much himself.

As people are now out of the habbit of going, the long term deals gone
Whats on offer is utter RUBBISH
