Bruce Makes 8 Changes In Our Team For Sheffield

This is the team we are predicting Steve Bruce will name for Tuesday’s crucial match at Sheffield United. It has 8 changes from the FA Cup loss at Arsenal.

On Monday, Bruce mentioned the squad being refreshed after resting some players against Arsenal on Saturday. So that indicates he’ll once again make plenty of changes. On Saturday, he made 7 changes and we could see close to that amount on Tuesday.

First off, there now seems to be some hesitation on Bruce’s part about Karl Darlow continuing as the number one. Martin Dubravka made his season debut at the Emirates and was outstanding. However, it would be quite brutal beyond belief to drop Darlow so soon.

Bruce may opt to switch the formation against Sheffield after facing top clubs over the past four matches. We don’t think he’ll go to a back four just yet, though. The lads created plenty of chances in this system on Saturday so Bruce will probably stick with it.

We suspect the back five that played against Man City, Liverpool, and Leicester City will return. Jamaal Lascelles may be rested after coming off at half-time at Arsenal due to fatigue. Paul Dummett also will likely be rested after making his return on Saturday. Yedlin returns on the right after a rest while Ritchie gets recalled on the left with Jamal Lewis still nursing a knee injury.

The midfield pairing is a tough call. We have Matty Longstaff and Isaac Hayden, who were the pairing at Man City and against Liverpool. It may be somewhat defensive but Matty shouldn’t lose his place after getting a rest over the weekend. He was a bright spark in the three matches he started last week.

In attack, both Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser return. Both were in the training images released today. Fraser has been out since the Brentford defeat while Wilson only missed out at Arsenal as a precaution. Miguel Almiron keeps his place despite playing the entire match, including extra time, over the weekend.

Sheffield Utd’s last 7 home league games (most recent first)
    Sheffield Utd 0 Everton 1
Sheffield Utd 2 Man Utd 3
    Sheffield Utd 1 Leicester 2
Sheffield Utd 0 West Ham 1
Sheffield Utd 0 Man City 1
    Sheffield Utd 1 Fulham 1
    Sheffield Utd 0 Leeds 1
anyone who thinks this is an easy match because Sheffield Utd only have 2 points is mistaken. last season Sheffield Utd were winning by 1 goal this season they losing by 1 goal. fine margins.

The shirt belongs to Darlow at present, injury or loss of form should be the only way back in for Dubbs.

That looks a decent set up Neil

Strong enough at the back and if Ritchie and Fraser can work together down the left, we have an outlet going forward.

I’m starting to get them positive feelings back.
In the roller coaster queue at least.

darlow is a great shot stopper
i think dubs is a better all round keeper

but i wont be disappointed to see either one in goal

will we sell one in the summer to make way for woodman or just sell woodman

It’s a tough call, Darlow has really come of age this season.

Pick any 2 from 3 for next year, Woodman has earned his spurs in the champo.

To be honest Dubrovnik should claim his place. Bruce should make a tough call and put him back in! It’s tough on Darlow but that’s it!
    Dubs is the better goalie!

Wow, been busy tonight, took a long while to catch up. Nice to see the Wife make a few appearances, welcome as always. Apart from Zoro, everyone behaving, being nice even a few apologies flying around, my we are being adults.

Wait until this time tomorrow night if we’ve lost – there’ll be more than a few sparks flying around then!

Wor b I agree that having Dubrovnik in goal would be a bit unfair, but would at least guarantee a point, seeing as we still can’t seem to score anymore. 😉

Using Janes stats SU have only scored 4 x goals in last 7 home PL games.

However, they’ve conceded 10, which is not bad for a team in 20th.

Given our inability to get past the goalie, this looks a certain 0-0. Useless to both teams but just about sums up where we are.

    To save you looking, here

My thoughts for the team are:
    Darlow/Dubravka (either will do)
    Manquillo, Schar, Fernandez, Dummet
    Hayden
    Murphy, M Longstaff, Anderson, Almiron
    Wilson

Using Hayden as a “between the lines sweeper”.

Tom, my feeling is that with Hayden as a holding midfielder with Murphy, Matty and Anderson feeding from him and leaving Almiron to play his natural no 10 role behind and around Wilson. If Bruce does this and they all turn up, I’d go for 0-2 or 3 😉

If Ashley’s court proceedings against the EPL were in open court, then you’d expect the press to comment.

As there’s been no comment, we must assume the proceedings aren’t under way or they’re not to be made public.

The hearing will involve much commercially and legally sensitive information that expecting reports, updates from the club or anyone else for that matter is unrealistic.

    Be patient

Thank you for your vote of confidence. Is it coincidence that jane suggested I police The Blog? Or could it be something else.

There’s no chance of me telling anyone if they overstep the mark – The Wife’s on the case so beware all those who feel like taking the risk an unforeseen disappearance.
