Newcastle’s Struggles Continue In Scoreless First Half At Sheffield

It was a depressing first half from Newcastle at Bramall Lane as Sheffield dominated the half with ten shots. Thankfully, only 2 were on target and Karl Darlow did well to save those.

There’s been little from Newcastle other than a missed chance from Callum Wilson. To top things off, Ryan Fraser was booked twice and Newcastle are down to ten men.

Newcastle, in their yellow away strips, were set up in a 5-2-3 with Hayden and Hendrick in the midfield, Yedlin on the right, and Dummett on the left. Sean Longstaff and Fraser were behind Wilson.

The hosts saw much of the ball even in the early stages but didn’t create much at first. Newcastle had an early cross from Fraser that was out of Wilson’s reach. The first shot of the match was a wayward effort from Sheffield’s John Lundstram in the 9th minute.

The Blades had a great chance in the 12th minute when David McGoldrick’s run wasn’t followed by a Newcastle defender. The striker’s effort was parried by Darlow as Sheffield started asking some serious questions.

After 25 minutes, it was all Sheffield who had the lion’s share of possession and the game’s only chances. Newcastle produced no shots and once again gave the ball away needlessly.

Newcastle’s first shot came in the 27th minute from a Callum Wilson header. Federico Fernandez delivered a perfect cross but Wilson’s effort went wide of the target. It was a missed chance from the striker.

Sheffield soon followed with a missed header of their own. Ethan Ampadu launched a tempting ball into the box. David McGoldrick met it with the back of his but it sailed over the crossbar.

Sheffield continued to put pressure on Newcastle, who had some timely blocks and challenges from our defenders to keep the Blades off the scoresheet.

The hosts piled the chances in late in search of a breakthrough. They didn’t find one but Ryan Fraser was sent off after receiving two late bookings for silly challenges. This performance has been woeful, pathetic, and just depressing to witness.

Hendricks hopeless, just passes them the ball. Get Anderson on.
Fraser in a huff ever since he was denied that obvious foul down the left.
Sheffield United movement excellent, especially McGoldrick. With us a player down they will have even more room.
Yedlin, who I like, looks completely off the pace and they are getting behind him.
No attacking midfielder to get between the lines so it is hoof to Wilson. Ref has made it clear that Wilson won’t get anything if knocked over.

I’m sure the commentator said Chris waddle twice!!

funny when he also said we’ll put everyone behind the ball now, like we hadn’t from kick off!!

Fraser is a worky ticket and s–thouse.

Totally outplayed and out footballed again. . . . . . . if Sheffield knew where the net was we’d be in trouble.

This bruce anti football deserves absolutely nothing.

    With apologies to Jane….

    Copied from the BBC

‘Chris Wilder will have to be delighted with this, his side are playing some really nice football now. Triangles, offloads, give and gos, Newcastle are chasing shadows as the Blades look to pull them apart.’

    Great innit

Why abandon everything that worked against Liverpool and Arsenal? It just defies logic. They are ripping us apart. As have every team bar West Ham and Burnley this season.
Every other point has been undeserved.

Oh Everton we’re as bad as us so deserved a point there.

Not sure why anyone is excusing Fraser. He totally footed Bournemouth off, a club he’d been with for six years when they needed him most. When Arsenal and Everton blanked him Palace offered him less than he was on at Bournemouth, even after we offered him a deal he left us stewing for a week while he had his agent looming for a better deal. I genuinely think bruce goes for the worst team and formation whenever he drops joelinton to make it seem like we are better when he plays. This is unwatchable and as pathetic a performance as I’ve ever seen from a Newcastle team.

Nah, i refuse to watch another second of this match, getting outplayed by a team rock bottom with 2 points and not a single win, Steve Bruce sets up in a f**king defensive formation and allows Sheffield united to attack us, we lose the ball every 2 seconds and cant string a few passes together, this happens almost every game. the enjoyment of watching Newcastle united is gone. an absolute shambles of a club from top to bottom.

Hendrick is simply not good enough its as simple as that.

Sean longstaff is simply not good enough not quick enough and doesn’t offer a thing going forward or anything. the lad is playing for his boyhood club he should be going all out to play for his shirt.

Our defence is rock solid and without it we would be looking at rock bottom, the only good players at this club are st maximin, matty long staff, Wilson, Fraser, Hayden, and the defence, the rest of the team offer absolutely nothing and are championship players at best,

I refuse to watch another second of this utter rubbish, simple as that. it is embarrassing. until Bruce goes, we get a whole new midfeld and get rid of the massive deadwood at the club i wont be watching anymore of NUFC.

Bruce should be strapped behind a car and dragged through the city just for accepting the job in the first place. He, as a self labeled Newcastle lad, should have been the first one to reject an offer from Ashley.

And then you put his manager ability on top of that and it’s a totally unbelievable setting.
    Business suicide 101!

    Only at Newcastle under Ashley…

If he could have got the team bus through the turnstiles I’m sure he would have parked it across the goals. He’s that negative.
He’d probably be better resting Wilson and putting Big Andy on as he is far better defensively.
Clueless came for a point now hell be exceptionally lucky to get one.
Perhaps hell go gunging ho in the second half and really go for it! Or perhaps he won’t.
    Bruce oout!

The most defensive XI of the season so far, against the bottom club in the PL with no cleansheets, just 2pts and no wins at nearly the halfway stage of the season.

Playing like the ball is a bomb.

    You couldn’t make it up.

    9,

Apologies mate, I didn’t see your earlier post ref. Bruceball set up.

I was away getting the carling in which will be probably used for drowning the sorrows.

Didn’t think Frasers first yellow was a yellow.

And maybe with the correct set up against the bottom team who haven’t won a game yet, Fraser wouldn’t have been in them areas.
