Newcastle’s Struggles Continue In Scoreless First Half At Sheffield

It was a depressing first half from Newcastle at Bramall Lane as Sheffield dominated the half with ten shots. Thankfully, only 2 were on target and Karl Darlow did well to save those.

There’s been little from Newcastle other than a missed chance from Callum Wilson. To top things off, Ryan Fraser was booked twice and Newcastle are down to ten men.

Newcastle, in their yellow away strips, were set up in a 5-2-3 with Hayden and Hendrick in the midfield, Yedlin on the right, and Dummett on the left. Sean Longstaff and Fraser were behind Wilson.

The hosts saw much of the ball even in the early stages but didn’t create much at first. Newcastle had an early cross from Fraser that was out of Wilson’s reach. The first shot of the match was a wayward effort from Sheffield’s John Lundstram in the 9th minute.

The Blades had a great chance in the 12th minute when David McGoldrick’s run wasn’t followed by a Newcastle defender. The striker’s effort was parried by Darlow as Sheffield started asking some serious questions.

After 25 minutes, it was all Sheffield who had the lion’s share of possession and the game’s only chances. Newcastle produced no shots and once again gave the ball away needlessly.

Newcastle’s first shot came in the 27th minute from a Callum Wilson header. Federico Fernandez delivered a perfect cross but Wilson’s effort went wide of the target. It was a missed chance from the striker.

Sheffield soon followed with a missed header of their own. Ethan Ampadu launched a tempting ball into the box. David McGoldrick met it with the back of his but it sailed over the crossbar.

Sheffield continued to put pressure on Newcastle, who had some timely blocks and challenges from our defenders to keep the Blades off the scoresheet.

The hosts piled the chances in late in search of a breakthrough. They didn’t find one but Ryan Fraser was sent off after receiving two late bookings for silly challenges. This performance has been woeful, pathetic, and just depressing to witness.

Penalty could have gone either way.

but only 1 team came to play football tonight and it wasnt us. we deserve to be losing given the lineup and the horrorshow it has been following bruce’s “plan”

Missed most of the first half started watching and Ryan sent off 30 secs later. Started watching again in 73 minute 30 seconds later penalty… don’t tell Bruce cos he’ll blame me in his comments afterwards.

Ashley needs to move to protect his asset.

I doubt he realises the peril it’s in though. It would take until we’re within 3pts of the R zone. No ability to discern trajectory and have some foresight.

“We were still very much in the game but of course the red card changes everything. It was always an uphill battle from there. The penalty was harsh.

“We have to respond now in the next game as we have done since I’ve been here. We will knuckle down and get on with it.”

    Pathetic.

I just can’t understand why we don’t have a go a real try to win a game.

Is there anymore clear indication that Bruce is freaking abysmal and needs to be sacked…in sick of pundits saying he is doing a good job…

    Look at the stats

Going to be the first team to lose to sheff utd,we where only behind where it’s in no goals scored in the first half ..13 games

Last season look at our points without our 1 man show saint max..we wasn’t boo in when we said we was a 1 man team…Bruce’s game plan was just pass to saint max and hope he does something…

We would be in a lot worse position if Bruce was relying on the defence Benitez built

If we hadn’t picked up so many lucky points early in the season we would already be down…

Bruce you have had 100 million and a year and a half and we have got worse somehow..bloody resign and retire from football or stick to lower league where actual tactics are not as required

Right, against Arsenal we pushed right up and pressed them and forced them into errors and generally didn’t play too badly.

Why did we revert back to this bruceball shitfest we’ve seen today.

Why is Bruce trying to chop and change his team and tactics like he actually knows what he’s doing.

Questions you know the pundits and press never ask:

Well Steve, where do you think it all went wrong ………..?

Do you think you are out of your depth?

Was tonight in line with your expectations?

Do you feel that you are the right man for the job?
