Toothless Newcastle Fall 1-0 To Sheffield At Bramall Lane

It took a controversial handball decision on Fede Fernandez for Sheffield to get their breakthrough. However, the hosts were easily the better team tonight. Newcastle surged late but their pathetic first 70 minutes have doomed them to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat at Bramall Lane.

Steve Bruce made no changes after a woeful first half in which Newcastle went down to 10 men. The hosts continued their dominance to start the second half forcing an excellent save from Karl Darlow on a point-blank effort by Jayden Bogle.

After 25 minutes into the second half, the Blades, despite having so much possession, didn’t create anything of note other than the Bogle shot. Newcastle were pinned back but Sheffield struggled to generate anything of real quality.

The hosts found their breakthrough when Fernandez was ruled to have handled the ball after a tussle with Billie Sharp in the box. The referee initially waved away calls from the Sheffield players but awarded the penalty after taking a look at it. Sharp took and converted the penalty.

Steve Bruce made a succession of attacking changes after the goal. First Matt Ritchie came on for a hobbled Paul Dummett while Andy Carroll replaced Fernandez soon after. The combination of the goal and substitutions gave Newcastle more impetus to get forward.

In the 83rd minute, Callum Wilson got another chance. He won the ball up the pitch and laid it off to Jeff Hendrick. The midfielder swung in a cross that Wilson headed straight to Aaron Ramsdale. Jacob Murphy replaced DeAndre Yedlin after the chance.

Ten men Newcastle pushed for an equalizer and the Blades looked far from comfortable but it was way too little too late. Sheffield have won their first match of this Premier League campaign while Newcastle are on a stretch of 8 winless matches in all competitions.

Hopefully Jimiley there will not come a time with fans at SJP and Bruce as Manager.
    We need him long gone.
I think our only hope is for Prem Football Season to be stopped due to Covid.
May give enough time for takeover to be completed or is that wishful thinking.
    Could happen?

Takeover will happen if we stay up
If takeover happens Bruce will be sacked
If we get relegated no takeover so no sacking
……I think I’ve worked out Bruce’s game plan

Find a decent disciplined manager, offer him a decent salary and big bonus for avoiding relegation – contract to end of season.

    Job done

there would be a queue around the block, take your pick Fatty.

I’ve not seen tonight’s match yet and red card makes the task very tough – but that was not a team set out to win against a side without a win all season. Hard to understand why nine defensive-minded players were in the starting 11 & eight attack-minded players on the bench #NUFC

Charlie, that’s 8 players he cud have chosen. Mind you, Joel is hardly the answer, but when I saw the team, I literally cudnt believe it.

We’re looking at the terminal demise of nufc right in front of our faces. Nottingham Forest without the European cups.

What an absolute shambles, absolutely clueless.
What is this manager thinking absolutely shocking team selection, no plan, piss poor up front. This is mid slide which Bruce always manages to achieve. Second season Sack man.
He is gutless, clueless and watching us at the moment is like watching the life been drained from a team. Relegation is very much on the cards with this clown.

Bruce in his desperation for a 0-0 draw played Dummet, just back from injury, a few days after playing 120 mins, now he’s out again.
Expect ASM to be rushed back in his desperation for points, only to pull a hammy.
We’re going to luck to pick up any more points, but we need a little less luck when ASM plays, as he can create something out of nothing without the need for any game plan or tactics

You commented earlier that our Beloved Owner is probably unaware of the quality of football being played us.

Surely his key men Barnes and Bishop can keep him informed of the very real danger we are in of being relegated, for the 3rd time under his ownership.

Relegation means no big pay day from PIF or any other buyer. I doubt very much whether the EPL will meekly pay up compensation for PIF walking away.

I doubt it will look good for Sports Direct advertising in a near empty stadium.

Mr Ashley might find it hard explaining to hard nosed investors why they should trust him to run any company after the mess he made of the one he owns 100%

Why can’t Bruce send us out consistently

Matty been our best midfielder against the top 6 we play a crap team and he gets dropped?

Richie dropped and dummet so no attacking threat?

Murphy been our best right side option again dropped against a team below us?

Gayle nowhere to be seen in weeks despite being fit?

I know Joelinton is disliked, but when he plays we hold onto the ball better higher up the pitch, and he also does a shift both ways.

Darlow effectively saying our midfielders didn’t do their job..”defensively we defended well but the ball just kept coming back” Also very honest about the fact they can’t keep saying we need to get better but actually need to do it.
He sounded really fed up about the situation

Marine V Spurs at the weekend – Marine had 32% possession
