Fraser, Hendrick, And Wilson Get Starts At Sheffield

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this evening’s match at Sheffield United. Bruce has made six changes from the defeat at Arsenal over the weekend.

Newcastle Starting XI: Darlow, Yedlin, Fernandez (C), Schar, Clark, Dummett, Hayden, S. Longstaff, Hendrick, Fraser, Wilson

Subs: Dubravka, M. Longstaff, Ritchie, Elliot Anderson, Murphy, Almiron, Carroll, Joelinton, Gayle

As expected Bruce has given recalls to a few of the players he rested at Arsenal in Federico Fernandez, Fabian Schar, and DeAndre Yedlin. However, we are a little disappointed that Matty Longstaff has been dropped.

Bruce has also kept Karl Darlow as his first choice keeper while Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser make their returns to the team. Both Jonjo Shelvey and Jamaal Lascelles didn’t make the squad today with their fitness issues.

This is the starting eleven Blades boss Chris Wilder has settled on.

Sheffield Starting XI: Ramsdale, Bogle, Basham, Egan, Ampadu, Osborn, Lundstram, Norwood, Fleck, McGoldrick, Burke

Well, we should learn a lot about the state of Newcastle United after this one. Sheffield have yet to win in the league after their historically poor start to this season. As luck would have it, they may have picked up some confidence with an FA Cup win at Bristol Rovers just a few days ago.

However, Newcastle need a result with all three points being the obvious aim. We’ve not won in seven matches in all competitions. Hopefully, the Magpies are the ones who get the elusive win tonight.

Howay The Lads!

Fraser was frustrated at playing both wings on his own, fair play to him, he could see that Sheff Utd couldn’t score against 11 so took one for the team to make it easier on them.

    BSIB

Agree re: Yedlin but will add that Yedlin has tried to get forward on his wing but when we tried to play the ball forward it has been poor and easily cut out leaving him adrift.

Just saying it is a whole team effort to play this poorly.

I’d thought I’d seen the worst game of football against Brentford but again Bruce has excelled himself with this utter shambles.
I’m lost for explanation at this.
The players should just stop playing football for him. Oh hang on they already have.

I don’t think asking Fraser to play almost as a wing back is helpful
I am sure he didn’t sign up for this
Stupid yes but he needs to be twenty yards further forward
Simply stupid buying a round peg and putting it in a square hoe hole

Dont care about the result providing Bruce is sacked together with any pundit who defends his tactics.
May as well play in the Championship as we can’t compete in the Premiership against anyone.

Bruce only tactic appears to double bluff the opposition before the game, i.e big them up and make them think they are better than the lads. They then think, hang on…if Brucie thinks we are good then we must be bad. Falls down however when they actually play us and realise that they really are better than us.

OK, I’m beat, I’ve always been optimistic about the toon, I alway thought never mind we got beaten but we’re unlucky with decisions, but I can’t anymore, I have to conceded, this is without doubt the worst football I’ve ever seen Newcastle United ever play, its terrible and can’t see it getting better anytime soon, even a takeover isn’t enough at the moment, Bruce has killed my spirit and killed Nufc

How many times did we fluff up easy 5-10 yard passes, straight to them and all in the middle of the park.
Twice we had a free kick in their half and just gave it back to them.

funny when he also said we’ll put everyone behind the ball now, like we hadn’t from kick off!!

Fraser is a worky ticket and s–thouse.

Totally outplayed and out footballed again. . . . . . . if Sheffield knew where the net was we’d be in trouble.

You can tell the players dont want to play like this every week . They’ve completely lost interest.

I had two and half years of Rafa playing defensive football – one up front even against bottom clubs
One and half seasons of Bruce
Thought we had changed in the last couple of weeks getting up the pitch closing down wanting more of the ball – attacking
    as Bruce wanted thought great
Then the stupid f??kin’ idiot goes defensive against the bottom club
Deserves all the shit thrown at him tonight for his team selection and tactics.
Bruce go please and can I have a manager that wants to play football and attack
I want to enjoy my football again

Nah, i refuse to watch another second of this match, getting outplayed by a team rock bottom with 2 points and not a single win, Steve Bruce sets up in a f**king defensive formation and allows Sheffield united to attack us, we lose the ball every 2 seconds and cant string a few passes together, this happens almost every game. the enjoyment of watching Newcastle united is gone. an absolute shambles of a club from top to bottom.

Hendrick is simply not good enough its as simple as that.

Sean longstaff is simply not good enough not quick enough and doesn’t offer a thing going forward or anything. the lad is playing for his boyhood club he should be going all out to play for his shirt.

Our defence is rock solid and without it we would be looking at rock bottom, the only good players at this club are st maximin, matty long staff, Wilson, Fraser, Hayden, and the defence, the rest of the team offer absolutely nothing and are championship players at best,

I refuse to watch another second of this utter rubbish, simple as that. it is embarrassing. until Bruce goes, we get a whole new midfeld and get rid of the massive deadwood at the club i wont be watching anymore of NUFC.

The football is garbabge. Most of the players are garbage. The manager is garbage. The owner is worse than garbage.
The club is just a shell. Dead from the neck up. It self imploded years ago nand its purpose is to survive in the PL. At all costs including brain dead football. The fragmented piece somehow manage to keep the club up. But its like a fly swirling around in the water by a plughole. Eventually the fly disappears.

Well Ashley, Barnes & Bishop. How much has your £4m investment in our coach cost NUFC?

I wonder exactly how much anyone will offer to buy a team that is increasingly looking like dropping into the Championship. Certainly NOT £350m. I’ll have pint of whatever Mr Ashley’s drinking if he feels that is a fair valuation.

If, Mr Ashley, you are banking on pocketing a few million from the failed takeover you might be left with egg on your face and a hefty legal bill to boot.

How long will it take for the pension funds etc that invest in Sports Direct to look at how you run a company wholly owned by yourself. The facts do not make for pleasant reading. Relegated twice and mis-managed by a series of cronies of Mr Ashley.

When the crowds are eventually allowed to re-enter football grounds how many will come back to St James’ Park. Next season we will probably drop to less than 30k and a lot less if we are relegated. I can’t see there being a rush to buy season tickets for the 2021-22 season can you.

So can you imagine the best scenario where NUFC survive for another season to fight off the drop again in front of a half empty stadium. What a message that will send out about the quality that Mr Ashley provides.

If relegated, and with no guarantee of ever returning to the Premiership, TV revenues will plummet with a much reduced source of advertising too.

Would a professional investor be happy to allow Ashley, Barnes and Bishop control over their money given that they seem totally inept at running Mr Ashley’s own company NUFC.
