Newcastle Need A Way Out Of The Ashley Era For Any Hope Of Progress

After peeling myself out of bed this morning, I’m trying to find some positives to write about. The only thing I can muster is that we have a stray cat who’s come around to our new home and I made her a little house yesterday as it got quite chilly last night. She slept there so I’m pleased about that.

That’s it. I have nothing of relevance to this blog that would be in the least uplifting. I really don’t want to be a rage merchant about the state of Newcastle as, to be honest, I’m in the acceptance stage and have moved beyond anger.

There’s plenty of justified fury with what’s going on with Newcastle at the moment. While Bruce has been infuriating at times and Mike Ashley will never change his spots, I find it more and more difficult to blame them.

My contempt is reserved for the likes of Richard Masters and the Premier League, who have kept Newcastle fans as prisoners in this state of woe due to underhanded political motives. Ashley found us new owners and it didn’t suit the Premier League’s vision of the league.

That is what I believe and while there were legitimate concerns with the Saudi-backed consortium, that rarely hindered similar takeovers in the past. So now we are left with an owner who wants to be rid of the club, a manager out of his depth, and a club in freefall. Mainly due to a league that claims to be democratic with its member clubs, but is far from it.

In one split second this lad shows more determination, vision and ambition than all of last nights farce. Bet Bruce would drop him for playing too high up the field.

Can we sue for Post Match Traumatic Stress ? The Toon was lit up by those burning the midnight oil in anger and frustration.

No doubt the next Bruce edicts will be along the lines of

“we’ve had a good heart to heart in the changing room”

“the players know they failed to follow my tactics of staying in our own half and that gave them more room to operate in” :

” the VAR van man couldn’t have seen what I saw from the touchline” ( you’re right on that one he was looking away in pity)

” I thought we played really well but got undone by a moment of indecision”

    Yada Yada Yada

I still can’t digest the team that Bruce started with. What a horror show with 9 defence players in the 11.

We made shef utd look like Barcelona. There was a point in the 2nd half where we had 11% possession.

    Just wow.

When the three Steves depart can they take Charmless with them. He’s even less use than the much vaunted chocolate fireguard.

Imagine turning up at work to be faced by those four and then Ashley walks in the room. Five reasons to plead insanity and ask for asylum somewhere safe.

This is way way beyond a joke.
Its incompetence and negligence rolled into one.

We all know that Ashley will not invest, as he never really has and wants rid now more than ever. In addition our squad is seriously lacking in quality attack minded midfielders and back up for Wilson, however Bruce does manage to make us worse than the sum. Of our parts. 8 hate the fact that we play for 17th or better every season but genuinely believe that almost any other manager would get a better tune out of our players than Bruce. Unfortunately I can’t see Ashley acting unless we are in bottom 3 and it’s too late but you would like to think that even he would think paying a year’s salary compensation would be worth protecting his investment. One can but hope.

The same calculations are in play that we’ve had for Ashley’s tenure –

1 – Are we likely to go down? Sack manager spend a bit of money and get a decent manager in to get us straight back up.

    2. – Are we likely do go down on goal difference? Keep manager for a fresh start at next season and start the calculation again. Buy only what you have got sale money for to keep the odds up.

He quite happily walked away from his challenge at Sheff Wed. 100% there’s a clause in his contract that says he can be sacked without compo if we’re in the bottom three. These clowns will wait for that to save a £1M

Doesn’t help us with a sale does it? Unless it means the buyer can knock a few bob off. Ashley us like a bloke selling a car he’s just got off auction, tyre wall black, seat covers, quick gunk down and jetwash of the engine to get the oil leaks washed away, jump start and get the engine warm to disguise flat battery and engine knock when cold…… Aye she’s a lovely runner….

Sorry I disappeared abruptly last night, forgot to charge the old IPad up I was so fuming with the cabbage headed idiot and his random team selection and usual lack of tactics or forethought or planning. They should have spent the last few days planning how best to attack the team with the worst record in the league “ever”, but instead we got a defensive line up and the slowest midfield in the PL!! – so my IPad died on me, been charging it up most of this morning then reading through what I’ve missed. I think my usual sunny optimism died a bit along with my IPad.

I have no desire to watch us again, until Bruce is shifted and replaced by someone with a plan, who can show players what to do and where to do it, I genuinely believe we have a squad who should be capable of a top 10 position in the league. The fact that we are well down on that and slowly, week after week creeping lower is testament to the coach’s inability to get his squad to perform to their ability- this is the crux! It’s the coaches job (and nothing else) to get the best out of the resources he has. Bruce is failing in this most basic of his tasks and as such deserves to be sacked, with no compensation offered.

    Tsunki,
What gets you most about those that justified Bruce’s hiring and the chasing away of Rafa is the way they brought up the formers atrocious signings and shite football as though it had been the glory years before his arrival. Just to top it off they revelled in his struggles in China as Bruce was picking up excruciating results against Spurs, Chelsea and Man U. There out in force now clamouring for the clowns head.

It’s mad, they just make themselves look completely clueless and idiotic. The fan base at every club Bruce has managed say the same things about him. Are they all wrong and all have too high of expectations? All we want is a team that shows fight, determination and doesn’t just sit back and roll over and die before the match has even begun. How are they high expectations. Lazy pundits still obsess over the wrong stereotype that we want European football every season. Lazy pundit work and embarrassing.

Bruce started off my day with a hearty chuckle.

His claim of playing two ‘false no10s’ is a brilliant comedic line.

Didn’t I say some months ago, the he doesn’t know tactics criticisms cut him deep. The man aside from anything else is ruled by negative emotions and is far too sensitive to be a leader of men in a management position.

Ever since those criticisms were put to him in a presser he has been trying to prove them wrong. He took it personally and has been adversarial with fans and journos ever since.

This two false no10s is the culmination of that. Just ridiculous to think he could pull something like that off, especially deploying the personnel he chose for the job. If he remains it’ll be the first and last time we see us set up like that because the bloke has no idea what he is doing.

He’s been flailing around for months with the duel objective of trying to find a formula whilst proving he can tinker – well Steve, you’ve failed mightily on both counts.

    Get out of our club.

It also goes some way to explaining Fraser’s reluctance to track back and frustration. He was given one of these fanciful false no10 roles apparently, and must have been peeved as to why that in reality was defensive winger, when all the other players dropped into their ultra-defensive roles.

Two false no 10s, Steve Bruce……. two false no10s! 😆

What happened to the Lascelles “spark”, the righteous anger after the Southampton debacle that basically got him the armband off Rafa? We’ve played much worse and many times since Bruce’s arrival but the Captain’s said nowt! – There seems to be a malaise in the dressing room, and if that’s true, then (a) the coach and (b) probably a handful of players need shifting.

This is what Rafa did, he knew what was needed, what type of player to sign to get the right responses from and importantly how to coach a rag bag bunch of low end buys into something that was greater than the sum of its parts. That is coaching, not what we are seeing right now.

He needs to realise it’s more damaging to tinker with formation and players every week too. How long has he been here now? He still doesn’t have a preferred formation? He makes up a formation and which players will play as he goes. Most well run and successful clubs have the same or nearly same starting 11 each week with the same formation. They learn it and perform it well in training and get used to it. Our players must be wondering where on earth they’ll be playing each week and what role they’ll be given. It’s like lucky dip. Shambolic.

M*nd can you stop telling people to be the bigger man and walk away from arguments. 99% of us don’t get in daily ongoing disputes and you have spent the best part of 2021 in several different aggressive arguments which you didn’t walk away from, and it was the same last year. Your arguments genrally go on for weeks. Also stop telling people to grow up until you stop using language like b*mboy and hounding people with mad alt theories. Also the last thing that rankles is telling people to look in the mirror. See above. One thing I can’t tolerate is people lambasting others for something they themselves do on a regular basis.

Fraser and Wilson have both been good signings.

Fraser has I think 3 assists, a goal and has barely played, don’t think he’s had 3 consecutive matches because of Bruce constantly rushing him and others back from injury.

ASM on the RW and Fraser on the LW would supply lots of chances for any ST.

Murphy has improved and his delivery has been good this season, so he would be a decent backup for ASM. Should have played more, but like the other night, Bruce picks the likes of Longstaff (he barely knows where to be in CM, how was he going to understand this flalse no10 role coming in from the RW?) or Hendrick to play in his position.

Lascelles had the enthusiasm and naivete of any young kid with good leadership qualities going into a stagnant business with terrible work culture and low productivity. He thought he could change it then, and did momentarily, but the systemic problems eventual grind the well intentioned, committed new boys down, until they become another husk just putting their time in and going home.

    Adamn,
He makes it up based on the last result, if we had sneaked a 1-1 last night which we very nearly did, he would have seen that as a result and set up exactly the same against Arsenal. After a dismal defeat he’s going to have to try something different again and if it isn’t a backs against the wall, which I think the players are well and truly fed up of, we’ll get taken to the cleaners. He has to go to give a new manager the chance to bring in a decent CM and with the clout to persuade Delli Alli to join for five months.

They are basically dead to me. its a fools errand getting wound up whilst Ashley is in charge. It makes no difference who the manager is whilst Ashley owns the club. Nothing will ever change until he is gone. If and when the phoenix arises again Im sure I can find the passion again but until then…..

I’m struggling to put it into words that will beat the blog filter so I’ve borrowed some.

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

With this group of players and the right coach we can do so much better. The problems are at the coach and his team of nuggets. We are not fit, poor tactics, which has induced fear throughout not helped by the nuggets sound bite excuses.
We need a new coach very soon to give him a chance to turn around the malaise that is evident, but who
Can,t see Rafa taking the post if offered given his fall out before
Eddie Howe, perhaps but would he fancy a trip north, remember his time at Burnley, although much younger at the time so maybe a little early, good coach though.
Perhaps Steve Cooper at Swansea, has done really well playing a good brand of football.
But when will fatty move, only when the bell tolls and we are on the brink i fear
God lets hope it happens as i fear the worst. Last night was for me the final nail…..i could go on but the B.P is rising again
