Magpie Delivers Honest Assessment Of Tuesday Performance

After another sorry performance with few positives, Newcastle must once again lick their wounds and prepare for a critical match. With the winless streak now at 8, every match has an increasing importance attached to it.

Next, it’s back to Emirates on Monday to take on Arsenal, who knocked us out of the FA Cup on Saturday. The Gunners travel to Crystal Palace tomorrow to try and stretch their winning streak to five matches in all competitions.

I suppose one positive is the lads will have a couple extra days to prepare than our opponents. Steve Bruce also had six days to prepare for the FA Cup and now he’ll have the same amount of time once again. The lads did play well last Saturday.

Yes, I am clutching at straws to find positives for next Monday. This season’s just a running reel of tedium. Tiresome performances and vows to put it right on the training ground. Rinse and repeat.

There’s one player who has kept his levels high this season. That’s our goalkeeper Karl Darlow, possibly the lone bright spot of this campaign. Darlow has called on his teammates to put it right after Tuesday’s defeat at Bramall Lane.

The Chronicle has published the following comments from Karl, who was once again outstanding in goal for Newcastle:

“Performance-wise we were nowhere near. We didn’t get going, they played the better football before the red card. We need to sort that out. There can be no excuses.

“We need to come here and do the business. Talk is cheap, we need to show more on the pitch that the fans can be proud of. It’s back to the drawing board.

“We needed to put more pressure on, they were fighting for their lives. We haven’t delivered what we said in the changing room, on the training pitch.

“We didn’t get hold of the ball.”

Darlow again made the saves on Tuesday to keep us in the match. However, it was all for naught as his teammates didn’t match his levels. The 31-year-old has won another poll as the Magpie’s best player. He wins it quite easily once again.

They all say similar after every defeat, “we weren’t good enough today” how many months have we been hearing that? We need a new manager .. i’d almost take Kets from the blog at this stage!

Using Darlow as a defence mechanism by Bruce doesn’t change anything.
Darlow is a consumate professional and can hold his head high for his performances.
Bruce needs to fight his own battles

    Who was Captain last night?

If Fed was Captain it is he who should be making a statement not Darlow.

    Time for player power.
    Bruce had lost them

Is his English speaking strong enough for that kind of interview?
Darlow is an intelligent lad and starting to become an important member of the team and possibly has Bruce as a mentor figure so he was rolled out.

    Team politics.

Fulham attacking away at Spurs and get a good equaliser. Might even be pressing for the winner. Closing the gap on the teams above them such as Newcastle United.

Did Bruce see that happening ?

Fulham looking good against Spurs, Parker has them playing well and can see them escaping relegation zone and catching us easily if we carry on as we are – how depressing

Good point for Fulham that – Parker has picked them up.

That’s 2 base sides made ground up on us.

Change now is a must – or forget the PL and all it’s benefits.

I know it’s transfer rumours and paper talk, but just seen we’re apparently close to getting ghoulam on loan from Napoli. A left back. Why are we being linked with so many defenders??? Defence is the least of our worries.

If Bruce had an ounce of Geordie blood in his Mackem boring loving body, he would walk away.

Simply not cut out to manage/coach at any level,
    Let alone the premier league.

If we go down, we won’t bounce back again. We will be the next Leeds/Sunderland

Get out of our club Bruce

Fulham away to Spurs with same number of shots, 48% possession and creditable earned draw.

If that was us, it would be 2 shots, none on target, 24% of the ball and a 3-0 tanning.

Sad to say if we played the way Brighton and Fulham have today, we’d be chuffed.

it was 1-1 with 1 shot on target in the 97th minute from the penalty spot.

4 way battle for 17th I guess. Who do we favour to stay up? I think West Brom is done but nobody else other than Sheffield is done yet. Should be interesting to see how we approach it. Should have sold Gayle by now and brought in a good AMF.

Jane, I know what you mean, but I was really comparing Fulham’s 15 shots 5 on target to our current form.

We all wish we still had that early season lucky streak still going 🙂

Absolutely cleveleys mate! It’s always available for use on Brucie. He should be on a short leash by now from Mikey. Further slippage in the table should make it obvious even to the Great White Lump we have as owner.
