Elias Sorensen has added a goal and an assist to his season tallies over the past two matches for Almere City. On Tuesday, Elias started at Helmond Sport in a 2-1 defeat. In the 24th minute, the young striker should have scored when a cross found him a few feet from the goal. He one-time it straight to the keeper’s feet in what was a poor effort from Elias.
Helmond Sport scored a few minutes later to make it 1-0 at halftime. They added a goal late in the second to give them a comfortable 2 goal lead. Sorensen was able to help bring one back with an assist on a corner in the 86th minute. Elias was at the near post and flicked the ball on from the corner to Thomas Verheydt, who headed it in to make it 2-1 which ended up being the final score.
Today, Almere City had a better time of it with a 4-2 win at FC Oss. Sorenson was brought on in the 82nd minute just after Almere City had taken a 3-2 lead. Elias put the match out of reach, albeit deep into stoppage time, with his 4th goal of the season. The win moves Almere City back into 2nd in the Dutch second division.
Freddie Woodman and Swansea had an afternoon to forget at Huddersfield today. The score was tied 1-1 at halftime but the second half was a different story. The Terriers scored three goals in a seven-minute surge to seal all three points. Woodman could do nothing about the goal in the first half but reacted late on a long-range strike from Lewis O’Brien in the 48th minute.
Swansea’s defense then did Woodman no favors on the third goal just 4 minutes later as they failed to clear a speculative long ball that eventually was played into the path of Duane Holmes. The striker retrieved the pass and blasted the ball past the helpless Woodman, who did get a hand on the shot but not enough to keep it out. Holman then scored his second in two minutes with a beautiful strike from very deep that flew into the far corner.
The defeat keeps Swansea in 4th in the Championship table as Watford jumped them yesterday with a 2-1 win over Derby. This was the first time Swansea had conceded more than two goals in the league this season.
Kelland Watts and Plymouth continued their unbeaten streak with a 0-0 draw at Rochdale today. It was the third straight clean sheet for Kell and the Pilgrims as they remain undefeated in the last nine league matches.
Watts was handed his 35th straight start today as he put in an excellent display at Spotland, where Newcastle were held to a 1-1 draw in the FA Cup last season. Kelland had 116 touches while attempting 99 passes. He had 6 clearances to go with winning 6 aerial duels. He was also fouled five times by Rochdale.
The point moves Plymouth to 10th place, which is quite admirable considering they were just promoted back to League One this past season. They have turned their season around after a 6 match losing streak in November/December. They are five points behind Sunderland, who occupy the final promotion place. Sunderland did defeat Burton Albion 3-0 away today. I hope they enjoyed that.

Comment #1Can we get Bruce on the transfer list?
I’m sure some non league side would take him on loan.

Fulham are looking lively in attack and they have had a decent few days, moving to within six points of safety after beating Everton on Sunday and then getting a draw at Burnley on Wednesday.
Sheffield United were well beaten by West Ham last weekend, which was a big setback in their mini-revival, but I just have a funny feeling the Blades will get the points here.
They have only won one of their 12 away league games so far this season – at Old Trafford last month – but this is almost the last throw of the dice for Chris Wilder’s side, and I think they will treat it as a game they absolutely have to win to have a chance of staying up.
Prediction: 1-2”

“It might be fatigue but I’m not going to use that as an excuse.”
Brentford, Bournemouth and Reading also lost, Norwich were the only top 6 team to win today.

Comment #4“‘We want to do it differently from an Arab Sheikh or a Russian oligarch’ – City’s owners want to break the mould”
“Very few clubs in English football run themselves via a self-sustainable model, but the Canaries are looking to break the mould by sustaining themselves in the Premier League without breaking the bank.”

Comment #7Well it’s taken a long time but I’ve finally caught up with the blog!
As much as I’d be over the moon with a win tomorrow sadly I just can’t see it coming about.
I’d also be delighted to see Sheffield United come away with point(s) tonight!

We’ve also been beaten of Sheff Utd, drew at home to ten man Fulham and laboured against the most porous defence in the PL with a narrow victory over WBA, I think it’s evened itself out.
