Bruce Makes Three Changes In Our Predicted Team For Manchester United

This is the team I think Steve Bruce could go with for tonight’s match at Manchester United. It has three changes from the defeat to Chelsea last week.

Bruce’s injury update during his press conference had some positives with Federico Fernandez returning to training and Javier Manquillo responding well to treatment. However, both won’t be available for today leaving Bruce with few options at the back.

I can see Bruce making one change with his backline with Isaac Hayden coming in at right-back for Emil Krafth, who struggles against pacy forwards. Hayden played there recently in the 2-1 Leeds defeat and will also open up some changes to the midfield.

The glaring one being the return of Matty Longstaff. The youngster plays well against the Red Devils with two goals against them last season. His youthful exuberance and stamina would be very useful tonight.

Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock keep their places though I wouldn’t be surprised if Bruce sat Shelvey for this one and brought back Jeff Hendrick or Sean Longstaff. Newcastle need to make life uncomfortable for Man United as Lascelles said over the weekend. That’s just not Shelvey’s type of game.

The other questionable change that I can envision is Joelinton coming in for Dwight Gayle. Bruce hinted that Gayle will get a run of games during his press conference but he offers little in a wide role and may need to wait for Wolves next weekend

Joelinton is a frustrating player but Bruce may opt to go with him tonight as he looked ok when coming on against Chelsea. He had a few moments and that may warrant another opportunity.

Bruce generally makes a few changes after a poor performance. While the second-half was much-improved, it was because the lads showed more intent. So Bruce’s team selection will have to mirror that type of mindset.

Whoever takes the pitch at Old Trafford tonight will have to play like their lives depend on it. Fulham moved to just three points adrift after their 1-0 win over a very poor Sheffield United. It’s a full-on relegation battle now, which is just sickening.

Zero longstaffs indeed. If they were French we’d want them out fast.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we had Potter and could be confident of playing around man utd a bit. With decent strikers, his weakness at Brighton, he’d be good for nufc.

We need to drop Shelvey for this game, he will offer very little against Manure and we will most likely be dominated in midfield, I’d rather see Hayden , Willock in the centre , we will need width so need to drop the diamond for this game

Fully understand your plight, but you should withdraw that last line, it doesn’t suit you at all mate.

It just shows how bad things are when we are wanting to see Murphy start at right-back.
I’d have Tavernier back ahead of him and Krafth in a heartbeat.

If we play Fraser LW, it’s not too bad playing Lewis LB.

If you’re playing ASM LB, you have to play Dummet.

Asm is better on Right for me, Fraser will then Balance the threat to both wings.

Murphy could work at RB, need to put a good shift in.

Listening to the Spurs game on talksport because I can’t be bothered to get out of bed and switch the telly on. The commentators have just said how well West Ham have swarmed the left hand side nullifying Regulion and Son and leaving Kane isolated. That isn’t something the players have just decided to do on the day, that’s been done because of analysis of the opposition. Bruce didn’t even know that Leeds were vulnerable to set pieces when we played them the first time, he didn’t even know their results when we played them a few weeks ago. He clearly didn’t know about Lamptey when we played Brighton, it seems his in depth analysis goes as far checking how Fulham results have been doing.

    OP

Agree ASM on the right, Murphy at RB then Hayden can protect on that side.

With ASM on the left, Shelvey gets left to cover and he can’t manage.

What bugs me most about lockdown football is the start times and days matches are played on.

Never seem to be any consistency, by the end of the season we’ll probably have played 5 Saturday 3 o’clock fixtures.

    It’s doing my head in.

No Munster I wasn’t looking for an argument. I wasn’t accusing anyone of being a mackem as some were so let’s not go down the accusation route. You still have a problem with a counter view I see. You could have just left it.

There’s little point speculating who we will play today as it will be a mix of the same familiar faces that have got us where we are now. The important speculation will be how much tactical input will be effected by Jones and if Bruce will stamp his feet and insist on squashing that down.

    OK

It’s 33, with 17 in this country and 16 abroad, including Maitland Niles who has been one of the star players for Fulham in their recent revival.

If you add Lookman in, another loan of theirs from Leipzig then they’d still be on a poor points tally.
