This is the team I suspect Bruce may name for tonight’s match at Old Trafford against Manchester United. It has three changes from Monday’s defeat at Chelsea.
While the team above is one I think Bruce will name, it’s not the one I hope he goes with. These types of matches don’t suit Jonjo Shelvey so maybe a recall for Sean Longstaff to play alongside his brother Matty could be an option.
Newcastle won’t have any injured players back for tonight but there are also no fresh injury concerns so Bruce has options. I expect a few changes from Chelsea but suspect he’ll stick with the 4-3-3 formation.
Manchester United could be without a handful of players with Paul Pogba ruled out and Edinson Cavani struggling with a muscle injury.
Newcastle United Injuries
Callum Wilson (hamstring), Javier Manquillo (ankle), Fabian Schar (knee), Fede Fernandez (hamstring)
Manchester United Injuries
Paul Pogba (thigh), Phil Jones (knee), Edison Cavani (muscle – late fitness test), Donny van de Beek (muscle – late fitness test), Scott McTominay (knock – late fitness test)
Our poll for this match has 80% expecting a loss. This means that Fulham could overtake us next weekend if we get nothing from Wolves at St. James’ Park on Saturday and they defeat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.
A result tonight could alleviate that problem at least for another week. However, it’s not looking good for Newcastle at the moment as we’ve been dragged into a relegation fight after being 10 points clear just over a week ago. That’s what wins do as Fulham have picked up 7 points on us since last Saturday.

Comment #84Give it up munster you’re having a shocking time trying to backtrack you’ve done the damage, brought a knife to a gunfight, you’re better off just laying low and leaving it, no arguments required today let’s just endure…enjoy the match eh? 😀

Comment #85Rotonda, I’ve no issue with that and am happy to giggle at lovestruck guys like you who were, and are, congenitally incapable of saying anything remotely negative about the man. Little bit of perspective wouldn’t go amiss.
Mund, yep you were right, they don’t leave it long do they?

Comment #86As a fan, I’ve no say in the manager, owner or the players we sign.
Have no say in relegation or a takeover, just have to deal with whatever card we’re dealt.
Not how it should be, how it is.
All I get to do it vent, or whinge about it, whilst being called deluded by pundits and journalists.
Great fun.

Comment #100I am expecting Hendrick to be straight back into the side — I hope not, if he’s going 5 at the back.
Totally understandable that some fans are calling for 5 at the back in this game — but for me it just represents regression — I’d prefer to see the side attempt to evolve and progress with the 4 at the back.

Behave — Wellhard was well hard – I know he got hit by a bus or something, he just got up, bit his own legs off and walked away.

I’m assuming there is no B side on your record. You need to get it digitally remastered as your vinyl has worn out from excessive overuse. A 14 year old would say something like ” lovestruck”. Your emotional growth and maturity seems a bit stunted.

Comment #108Steve Bruce makes one change to the Newcastle side which lost at Chelsea last Monday as Joelinton replaces Dwight Gayle in attack.
Defender Federico Fernandez does not make the bench.
Newcastle XI: Darlow, Krafth, Lascelles, Clark, Lewis, Willock, Hayden, Shelvey, Joelinton, Almiron, Saint-Maximin.
Subs: Dubravka, Dummett, Carroll, Ritchie, Gayle, Hendrick, Fraser, Murphy, S Longstaff.

Easy to see see Graeme Jones taking over.
Either way, we lose 3-0 today.
