The Chronicle reported last week after the defeat at Chelsea that Mike Ashley has no plans to replace head coach Steve Bruce despite Newcastle dropping to 17th in the table. The situation has since gotten more precarious with Fulham now just three points behind Newcastle with a much better goal difference.
Therefore a loss against Wolves at St. James’ Park coupled with a Fulham win at Crystal Palace next weekend will see Newcastle in the relegation places. Whether that scenario will cause Mike Ashley to have a change of heart remains to be seen.
However, last night’s loss at Manchester United has reportedly done little to move Ashley into action. Here is a tweet from the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards on Ashley’s stance, or lack thereof, on his embattled football club.
Told again this morning from sources that #nufc are not considering a change in manager. Now this can change in a flash if Ashley intervenes but I’m told he remains hands off regarding decision making at club which is low on list of business priorities at the moment ????
— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) February 22, 2021
A defeat at Old Trafford was not likely to extract a response from Newcastle’s emotionally divested owner. Though a drop into the bottom three may be enough to get Ashley in motion. He can ill afford Newcastle going down this year if he hopes to get anywhere near his asking price for this club.
Fan group Toon For Change has issued an ‘urgent plea’ to Mike Ashley to replace Steve Bruce as manager. Here is a tweet from the group containing their statement.

This is unlikely to garner any response from the often stubborn Mike Ashley. However, if Bruce picks up nothing at home against Wolves on Saturday or at West Brom the following weekend, then Newcastle will likely be in the bottom three with just 10 matches to play. That is Steve McClaren territory where Ashley’s reluctance to act with haste cost Newcastle their Premier League status.

Comment #121Sorry for late replies lads been out for a walk with the bairns, nice afternoon here.
Jail as you like to say true day.
Munster you a big Fast Show fan as well, think that Rowley Birkin is how I’ll be when I’m old.
Hibbit I do truly believe, you only have to look back to last October when NUFC said they would explore all options on taking the Premier league on with regards to the way the o+d test was dealt with, now at the beginning of that statement it said the owners of Newcastle United. Why would they say owners, why not Mike Ashley. Everyone can think how they like, I will not tell them any different but that is why I am in the positive camp.

Comment #125Personally I think that Luke Edwards is spouting his usual rubbish.
To suggest that trying to sell a £300M+ asset is low on his list of current priorities is simply ludicrous beyond belief. The man’s a nutter LE that is. 🙂

Comment #129If the club’s way down in Ashley’s business priorities, then he’s surely delegated the authority to make oprational decisions on his behalf? That being so, then that person’s likely to be Barnes who one’s assume is being guided by his MD, Charmless.
Barnes must surely have advised that the situation’s serious and either sought or will seek Ashley’s approval to move Bruce out of the hot seat and either appoint a short-term replacement (Rafa’d be perfect) or leave things to Jones.
Or, being advised by Charnley on matters relating to football and in particular, relegation, he’s likely to be oblivious to the club’s plight.
What a state of affairs.

Comment #130Also, when people sell their houses they might put up an extra mirror or two, nice bunches of flowers in the hallway and dining room with lots of glade plug ins dotted around the house and all the rooms cleared of LEGO and other bits of expensive useless plastic. That’s why I believe Mike Ashley had no intention of selling until a series of events forced his hand. Keeping Rafa would have been the equivalent of the things listed above. He managed to agree a deal to sell with the cracks nicely skimmed over. Fast forward a year and that car on the driveway that hadn’t moved for a year now has flat tires and there are weeds growing under it. The “nine” on the door now looks like a six, there are feral kids running a mock in and out of the house. Would you really pay the same price for that???

Comment #133I once posted a great analogy about a general defending a bridge after we finished fifth and hierarchy never reinforced it. It went down a treat, shame it was pre-heart other wise it was a competitor for heart of the year, up there with Banks if I don’t mind saying so myself.

It was a blatant elbow , no interest in the Ball !
Should have been a straight red and pen !!
How VAR didn’t see that I just don’t know , yet when the ball hit Lewis on the leg , VAR were straight on it checking for a handball !!

Comment #136OP @131, totally agree, then it’s a totally different game, but the bastards at the top of football in U.K. aren’t going to allow that are they? Corrupt doesn’t cover it, we’ve been on the receiving end of things like this for years and it doesn’t ‘balance itself out” over the season as many claim.
Just compare how many pens MU have already had with us or anyone else for that matter.

Comment #137Romford, I actually missed the incident last night. But having watched it today it is a Pen and Red Card. He looks at him and leads with the elbow to the face.
Dermot Gallagher said VAR DID check it, and decided it was fair blocking.
That is a disgrace.

No it ended with us being almost thrown not just off the bridge but out of the country, the troops demoralised while the general took a big fat juicy pay rise while telling the troops the hierarchy made the right decision and had their best interests at heart, despite telling them all they’d made the wrong decision and let everyone down a day before his big fat juicy pay rise!

Comment #142It’s now quite clear that the EPL is tainted with corruption.
Officials have chosen to ignore Lascalles being taken out by Macquire and award a penalty and a yellow maybe even a red card. Clearly it was not in the script that Man Ure could potentially have gone down to a 5th penalty goal at Old Trafford.
In rugby yet alone football that was ten minutes in the sin bin for taking out a player off the ball. And a penalty with three points. Which it could have been for Newcastle.
The ref was from Wigan. Convenient.
Mike Dean had been exposed for some strange decision making.
VAR is getting brown paper enclvelopes on the doormats of the van.
And Masters and his cronies continue to fiddle while dancing to the tune of puppet masters.
No wonder Ashley pukes on the fireplace. Football fans should do the same.

Some might say that blocking when you’re both standing still is OK.
Try running at someone from ten yards in the street and blocking them with your elbow. That’s a night in the nick and a visit to the Magistrates.

Comment #147Lets get our facts straight here chaps, the (secret) refs handbook states quite clearly that under no circumstances should a penalty be awarded to any other than one of the ‘Top’ six clubs.
So what are people having a go at?
Occasionally the refs do get it wrong and give a non ‘Top’ club a pen but this may not be accidental but done to give a false impression of fairness.
Please don’t ask where this inside info comes from as it could be dangerous to the informant!
