UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that fans will be provisionally allowed back into stadiums for the final weekend of the Premier League season. According to a report in The Chronicle, the prime minister addressed parliament this today setting May 17th as the date that fans may return to sporting events
If all goes to plan, up to 10,000 supporters, or 25% capacity, depending on the capacity of the venue, will be allowed to attend sporting events. The Premier League will have its final weekend of matches on May 23rd.
The prime minister had announced a tiered system last year which allowed a few thousand supporters to return to stadiums. However, that was soon abandoned when a second national lockdown was implemented after Christmas.
This is encouraging that we could see fans return for the entirety of next season, though possibly in a limited capacity, at least to start. Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham for this season’s final match. So no fans will have attended any matches at St. James’ Park this season.
The final match at Fulham could be a massive one for Newcastle as the Cottagers are currently just one place and three points behind in the table. Hopefully, Newcastle will not need anything from that match to ensure survival. We need to get some wins to keep Fulham at bay starting with Wolves on Saturday at an empty St. James’ Park.
If we do end up having to go to Fulham on the final day needing a result, let’s hope it mirrors that 4-0 thrashing Newcastle handed them two years ago when the future looked so much brighter.

Aye that’s a different ball game – punished twice. Some of the worst ones I played in were inter police games. Some real bruising games kicking lumps out of each other

Comment #43if some fans are allowed for the last round of matches which is my understanding that would be unfair on Newcastle if we need a result at Fulham if they are allowed fans.

Great fun, everyone had scores to settle, points to prove.

At least the lads got a day off today not as if they have got anything important coming up.

Comment #48Agree with that re fans although I have to think if we were allowed in the atmosphere would be fairly toxic with brucey boy at the helm.
Maybe a good thing for the players we’ll not get in

Comment #55No fans in the ground for a whole season.
They do not know how lucky they are.
Its easier sticking pins in your eyes than watching this current outfit making a stab at playing football.
Odious owner, useless manager and crap players. Whats not to like?
Does anybody thing the SKY or BT paying public will miss the Toon next season?v

45 thousand make no difference at SJP so I fail to see what 6 thousand will achieve. We always lose at Craven Cottage. Seen them lose there many times. That game will not be relevant anyway. We will be well gone before then. 12 defeats in the last 16 games is some record. It rivals Carver. No Callum until April and he is the only one who can score. We are stuffed.

Comment #59WE have to exploit the pace and mobility of Shelvey and Hendrick. They have perfected the art of walking through games and it does not cut it anymore. We need to sack the walking coach and bring in Carl Lewis to show them how to open their legs.

Comment #60This Willock guy must be a real pain for Shelvey and Hendrick. He can actually run which will totally disrupt their walking rhythm in midfield. That Willock sidefooter is a lesson for the other two. You cannot stand in the centre circle and side foot balls across the box into goal. Well, not unless you have very long legs!!

No bother, shame he won’t be involved in any of the next four but he has to be at full fitness as we can’t be having him have a relapse in the first game back.

Craven Cottage is like a coffin with 25K fans inside. Six thousand will make no difference. The Toon fans ball the place down. That makes no difference either. We normally lose.

It’s not about doing any good as we know it won’t but it will be good if a good few thousand take the survey to get a feel of what the wider fanbase feels like.
I for one am interested in what the results will be.
No harm in taking it and some good questions within it

Comment #72Joe just isnt going to get goals, you think he actually had a back problem against Manu ?
Looked like he bottled it to me.
Carrol will run for about 10 mins then just start fowling people as he gets frustrated
Shelvey never runs and wants to live off a holywood passe every 15 games or so. When he gets the ball he mostly passes it back to where it came from. Liability.
Hendrik is garbage, maybe championship level at best. Offes nothing to the team
Gayle seems like hes got 1 foot out of the door
Players like Yannick Toure havent even had a look in on the bench. Even while were desperate
A top manager might get the players we still have left to win games but with the current clown we are getting relegated
