UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that fans will be provisionally allowed back into stadiums for the final weekend of the Premier League season. According to a report in The Chronicle, the prime minister addressed parliament this today setting May 17th as the date that fans may return to sporting events
If all goes to plan, up to 10,000 supporters, or 25% capacity, depending on the capacity of the venue, will be allowed to attend sporting events. The Premier League will have its final weekend of matches on May 23rd.
The prime minister had announced a tiered system last year which allowed a few thousand supporters to return to stadiums. However, that was soon abandoned when a second national lockdown was implemented after Christmas.
This is encouraging that we could see fans return for the entirety of next season, though possibly in a limited capacity, at least to start. Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham for this season’s final match. So no fans will have attended any matches at St. James’ Park this season.
The final match at Fulham could be a massive one for Newcastle as the Cottagers are currently just one place and three points behind in the table. Hopefully, Newcastle will not need anything from that match to ensure survival. We need to get some wins to keep Fulham at bay starting with Wolves on Saturday at an empty St. James’ Park.
If we do end up having to go to Fulham on the final day needing a result, let’s hope it mirrors that 4-0 thrashing Newcastle handed them two years ago when the future looked so much brighter.

We are past the stage of relying on other teams the only people who can make the difference are our team and Bruce…..

Comment #205I don’t think it will go to the last game of the season anyway could see us being relegated well before we play Sheffield United
Hopefully the “keyboard warriors” are allowed into the stadium at that time to tell them what they really think of Bruce

Comment #206Last night was always going to be a bit of a no win.
If Palace lost, i still think they would have enough in them, and their manager, to scramble to safety
If Brighton lost, well they look far better than 4th last , but its possible that they will go down, as they never seem far from the bottom few. But you’d still feel they have enough.
So it comes back to Fulham, the team we need to stay in the bottom 3 so badly, and that’s why cheering their win was so daft.

Comment #211I‘ve read so many opinions as to whether it would be good or bad if Newcastle dropped a division next season! I’m an Ozzie, not a Gordie but I’m a huge follower of Newcastle United! I’m always on this site reading the news and everyone’s views. Personally, I don’t think it would be an ideal situation if Newcastle went down again this season regardless of Mike Ashley’s total disdain for the club. I’d like Newcastle to stay in the Premier League for next season and hopefully things will change!.We all live in hope!

Comment #213I don’t get that The Mag article at all. You may have wanted Brighton to win and that’s fair enough, that’s your preference. But a mini disaster? You must be joking.
Brighton have been in and around the bottom 3 ALL season, they’re not suddenly going to kick on and get out of it. They flatter to deceive, they play nice football but lack a killer instinct, goals win games not 80% possession. Palace have an experienced squad and experienced manager, they’ve been doing this for years. I would say given their composure they are for more likely to stay up than Brighton.
Finally, we still have to play Brighton, so surely we want to take 3pts off them and stick them further in the relegation battle. We don’t play Palace so can’t effect their chances.
I for one am delighted with the result. You can never trust Brighton to beat anyone. I can see them getting done in the exact same manner by WBA. With a bit of luck we will be ahead of Brighton after the weekend, or hopefully at least after we play them on 20th March.

Mate you have to be in times like this as that’s when it’s most needed.
We beat Wolves we have a 6 point gap again before Fulham plays which could stay 6 points depending on there result which would give us a little comfort to go into the West Brom fixture.

Comment #216Mund, even if you’re peddling optimism, people don’t like being told what to do and certainly don’t like being set an agenda on a blog that is for free speech. Just an observation.

Show me where I’m telling anyone what to do?
Just because they are angry and frustrated and current circumstances and I try to stay positive which people don’t like and then take those frustrations out on me when it’s all Ashley and Bruce.
Sick of this shit show me where I tell people what to do??
Also why your at it show me where I say people can’t have a different t opinion than mine as well.
Not once have I ever told anyone how to think or feel I advise it from my own feelings anybody is free to choose there own way in life.

This is trying to set an agenda, or it certainly comes across that way.
I never said anything about different opinions so won’t comment on that.
Nothing wrong with being positive at all and it is a breath of fresh air at times.
You’ve been good for the blog again since your return, but yesterday signs of the combative Mund was appearing again (and I agree it’s not always your fault). I won’t say anymore, as I didn’t come to argue, I was just making an observation and you’ll notice my comment just above was POSITIVE 😮

Saying the word agenda doesn’t sound good at all!
Because I said can we try!! TRY! To not be all doom and gloom.
I’m not pushing it on anyone just trying to give a different outlook. That’s it! You can take it or leave it it’s not forced on anyone it’s just words in a txt on a post on a blog.
I’ll always be combative I can’t help it mate it’s how I was made and I’ve been like this my whole life.
I’ve never once told anyone what to do or how to think I just try and open there minds to other people say of thinking, different mindset.

Comment #229I’m really worried about the possibility of relegation. Our key fixtures (next 4 and last 2) are sandwiching a really tricky set in between.
With the prospect of no Wilson and the likelihood of Bruce being at the helm for the next 4 at least I would say we’re in big trouble. The timing couldn’t be worse.

Comment #239Mund , finally saw the Ben Jacobs interview, Came across well, he’s no mug and can argue his corner. Highlighted the issues of separation well and showed how journos can be peddled. Nailed Amanda on one point , but i cant remember which one. Offers a very different perspective to most on here, saying that the top clubs are not interfering in this, but he comes across as a balanced guy, and optimistic overall. It would be fun having him and Keith on the same show! His overall tenor was optimistic for the takeover i think, and he had sympathy for nufc supporters going through the wringer.
Tks again for the link. I think Liam is on tonight, always worth a listen imo.
