UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced that fans will be provisionally allowed back into stadiums for the final weekend of the Premier League season. According to a report in The Chronicle, the prime minister addressed parliament this today setting May 17th as the date that fans may return to sporting events
If all goes to plan, up to 10,000 supporters, or 25% capacity, depending on the capacity of the venue, will be allowed to attend sporting events. The Premier League will have its final weekend of matches on May 23rd.
The prime minister had announced a tiered system last year which allowed a few thousand supporters to return to stadiums. However, that was soon abandoned when a second national lockdown was implemented after Christmas.
This is encouraging that we could see fans return for the entirety of next season, though possibly in a limited capacity, at least to start. Newcastle travel to Craven Cottage to take on Fulham for this season’s final match. So no fans will have attended any matches at St. James’ Park this season.
The final match at Fulham could be a massive one for Newcastle as the Cottagers are currently just one place and three points behind in the table. Hopefully, Newcastle will not need anything from that match to ensure survival. We need to get some wins to keep Fulham at bay starting with Wolves on Saturday at an empty St. James’ Park.
If we do end up having to go to Fulham on the final day needing a result, let’s hope it mirrors that 4-0 thrashing Newcastle handed them two years ago when the future looked so much brighter.

Comment #243Toon 22 you contribute so little, just trying to wind a good contributor up again with your tired old slogans. Dear oh dear, its says little for the blog that your repetitive mantra is tolerated.

Comment #252I could have accepted Bruce losing a run of games (as he has) if it meant his removal, as would be the case at any other normally run club. However, I would absolutely hate relegation.

Comment #253I know this is not conventional nor possibly a good idea but I suggest after we stay up and the takeover actually happens those who want to, meet in an agreed pub in the Toon and have a good drink together!
We bloody deserve it as this is very stressful!

It may or may not have been a penalty..
It may or may have been a card .
But.
Whatever he did he did on purpose .why take the risk.some footballers are so stupid on the pitch.

Comment #258Tinman, overall i agree . You’d reckon Woy and Palace have enough about them to garner a few points. Brighton are only 1 point ahead of us ( i think) and for all the admiration of Potter, they’ve been struggling in the lower reaches all the time. I dont think they’ll go down but I think the Mag article was a bit daft.
There again, a lot of Mag articles are

Comment #260Rotonda, so you can see my annoyance the other night with a toon fan being happy with Fulham winning , on the rather stupid presumption that Ashley will leave. Tsunki didnt like me calling the fan a mackem, but i;m afraid thats what mackems do.

Comment #263Munster, I think the point which clinches it for me is we have a 6pter to come against Brighton but we don’t against Palace. Our destiny is still in our own hands at the moment.
Fulham and Brighton both have the same problems, not enough goals.
Burnley and us are also struggling for goals as our main strikers are injured. Wood is back soon for Burnley though which will make a big difference to their hopes.

Comment #266Reilly I think a situation like last season where that ghost goal wasn’t allowed, Aston Villa would have gone down I think if it had been allowed, would arise and stop Burnley from going down, they’ve got American owners now part of the cabal you know.

RE: people talking about playing football and football relate injury’s .
the worst injury ive seen when i was playing was when we were playing Percy Main in a cup game at their place , i played centre half with a lad playing off me Called Rossi ( knickname ) any way it was half way thru the first half and their forward broke thru Rossi put a fair tackle in caught the lad there was this all mighty snapping noise , ROSSI had only snapped the lads leg on his his shin ( compound fracture ) his bone was sticking thru his skin horrible thing to see , the lad was screaming it took 20 minutes for a ambulance to get there while we tried our best to keep the lad calm , i saw the lad a few months later who had his leg snapped was walking with a stick i dont think he played again after that .
i played for the police as a guest ( or a ringer 😀 ) and played for the air force as a guest at RAF Boulmer best thing about playing for the RAF , was the NAAFI afer the game cheap as chips in there

Tbf Dougie did clarify that by saying he only wanted it if it 100% guaranteed the removal of Ash. Why would anyone want relegation otherwise?

Comment #271Instead of looking over our shoulders, why not look above us and see who we can catch if we get a win or two. Its not like it was a month ago and we did not know where our next win was coming from. WE are playing well enough to win 3 games before end of the season. Fulham are an in form team. Start looking at brighton, Burnley , Southampton and still palace to catch.
If you go in the jungle make sure you’ve got 2 things with you. A pair of trainers and a fat friend. ( analogy alert ).
