Newcastle’s encouraging performance against Wolves last night was not enough to pick up a crucial three points. While a point gained from the 1-1 draw is better than nothing, the Magpies squandered an excellent chance for what would have been an uplifting win. That coupled with more potentially devastating injuries leaves us somewhat deflated.
Both Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin face scans this week to discover the extent of their injuries. At the very least, their availability for Sunday’s match at West Brom looks extremely doubtful.
Steve Bruce is already missing Callum Wilson so where Newcastle’s goals will come from without Miggy and Allan, is a major concern. If both are lost for a significant period, our survival chances will have taken a massive blow. Hopefully, the scans on Almiron’s knee and Saint-Maximin’s groin reveal nothing serious.
Added to the once again expansive injury list is our only fit right-back Emil Krafth, who suffered a shin injury late in the second half. The confusion just after Emil was taken off led to Wolves getting their equalizer. It was a very frustrating sequence all around including Dubravka getting a touch on Neves’s header but not being able to keep it from going in.
Javier Manquillo started training this past week but may not be ready for the Hawthorns next weekend. If both Manquillo and Krafth are ruled out, then it’s likely to be Isaac Hayden back at right-back. That will open up a midfield slot for either Jeff Hendrick or one of the Longstaff brothers.
Right now it’s just waiting for the news on the extent of this latest rash of injuries. This season just seems to be turning into a perfect storm for disaster. Just as the form improves, injuries to key players devastate the squad.

Comment #2Two very poor teams. Palace missing Zaha. Fulham just poor… surely we are better than them.

Comment #4Really poor game up to now, not only is the game boring but you have Mark (most boring bloke on the planet) Hughes in the studio to really put a damper on things.
i really hope Palace win this game though they have been poor, only one chance and that is stretching it a bit.

He thinks Fulham is just an option on the Subway menu.

Comment #6Fulham do have a good press and high intensity, but no danger when they get around the box.
They might get something if they bring Mitrovich on and play to his strengths.
Either way, this will be 0-0 unless someone gets jammy.

Comment #7How did we not win that game last night? Easily the better team.
Shelvey finally showing up, the midfield 3 of him Hayden Willock do look good together.
If we had Wilson instead of Jo I think we would have had a few more

Comment #8Just a shame when you look at the group and how well we have been playing over past 6 weeks and if we had done this all season would easily have another 6-9 points

Comment #13AP – the problem is that we only play for one half …players seem too unfit to last a whole game , must be all those days off Bruce keeps giving them
Jones: We should get them in tomorrow for debrief of game
Bruce: you can f’ off , I’ve got harvest tomorrow

Comment #18Can only see Fulham getting 4 points from their next 7 games, so hopefully be able to notch a couple of wins in our next 7 and create a bit of a cushion. Hate to think we have to go down there last game and not get beat to stay up

This was the fifth Premier League match this season not to feature a shot on target in the first half. Of the previous four, two involved Fulham and one of the other two involved Palace.

Comment #24Didn’t see much in that game to worry us.
Fulham were busy, but only created a few half chances.
Only thing of concern is that they look fit and ready for the run in, while we look tired and have too many injured players.
Hopefully Burnley fall apart and Brighton keep their bad luck streak going.

Comment #30Will go down to the last game with Fulham needing 3 points to stay up, while we need to avoid defeat.
Exciting run in. Great time to be a Newcastle fan battling for 17th. If we survive, will be the same next season. Such excitement.
