Newcastle’s lone winter signing, Joe Willock, started his Newcastle career with a bang. The Arsenal loanee opened his account 16 minutes into this debut in the hectic 3-2 win against Southampton in early February.
Willock made a late run into the box and blasted a pass from Allan Saint-Maximin into the net to give Newcastle the early lead. That was only the opening act in a crazy game which Newcastle ended up winning despite going down to nine men in the second half.
That match has proven a consequential one for the Magpies. Not only is it our last win, but in the first half, Callum Wilson suffered his hamstring injury from which he is yet to return.
Newcastle have been hanging on ever since as our position in the league has since come under serious threat. We sit just two points above 18th-placed Fulham, though with a game in hand.
It’s hardly been a smooth ride for the club since the 21-year-old’s arrival. His embattled head coach has been involved in a row with a player amidst increasing calls for him to be replaced.
Willock’s also not been able to play in front of 50,000 screaming Geordies as matches are still played behind closed doors. However, none of this has negatively impacted the young midfielder.
He’s still loving it at Newcastle and has even claimed that he is open to staying beyond this year. This is what Willock said when asked about his loan spell at Newcastle as published in The Sun:
“I love playing for Newcastle.
“When I first came here, I was a bit apprehensive of how I would take to it because I’d never left Arsenal.
“I’d been at Arsenal since I was four and a half, so coming to a new club, coming up north to Newcastle was a bit scary.
“But as I came here and settled in and saw the love from the fans that I’m receiving, of course, I’d love to continue playing here.”

Comment #221Of course he’s saying he’d love to extend his stay.
What do you expect him to say, “first chance I get I’m outa here”, or “If this lot go down I’ll be back at Arsenal quicker than you can say Hatem Ben Arfa”?
It would be ridiculous if he said anything other than we’re a great club with great fans.
He’ll be gone at the end of the season, either back to the Arse of to a club who show a little more potential and have less chance of going down.

On Willow, I reckon you have that right.
Let’s not delude ourselves, he never lay in bed at night dreaming of running out of the tunnel in the black and white.
He needs to showcase his talents and we gave him an opportunity to do that.
To be fair to the lad, he has done that.
Eye catching performances and a good move for us to get him. Great energy and work rate. But he gets caught ball watching. A lot.
To me we have lads waiting for a sniff of s chance who aren’t getting one.
However IMO he is raw, and

Comment #226Shame about Sorensen. High hopes for him, but he’s buried in the Dutch 2nd tier with Almere on loan, and can’t get many starts. 18 appearances but mainly bits and pieces..scored 4 though, and 3 assists.

Comment #229Anderson was the standout player yesterday for the U23 but should of done better with the chances he had – saying that should at least get 20-30 minutes game time
Cannot do any worse than Gayle when he comes on

Comment #230I listened to a couple of podcasts on FPL last night on the drive home. Always cheating and Planet football. Two American lads and Planet football are West Ham and Spurs. Both shows cited how bad Brighton were at keeping clean sheets when talking about bringing Brighton defenders in. They said it’s OK on a Free Hit( that’s a card you play to pick a team just for one week) to get them in against Newcastle but not long term if you’re thinking ahead. So there we have it, we’re going up against a very leaky defence but the footballing community can’t see us scoring. The London lads couldn’t understand why Bruce has this formation in his head and is sticking with it to get Gayle on the wing.

Comment #231People saying Bruce has sacked Jones off. Did someone not mention on here a Luton fan who said Jones had played their striker on the wing?

Given bruce’s history, effectively 3 PL relegations and the toxic confrontational nature he pervades around the club, I would say we were nailed on to go down. However, there is sometimes a twist in these things and Soto look desperately poor at the minute and currently are even in more free fall than us.

Comment #233I see there’s a new “Odds List” for our next Bossman only trouble is the present “Gaffer” hasn’t gone yet! So who would you pick?
Next permanent Newcastle United Manager odds from Betfair:
1 – 6/5 Graeme Jones
2 – 2/1 Chris Wilder
3 – 9/2 Rafa Benitez
4 – 6/1 Eddie Howe
5 – 7/1 Mark Hughes
6 – 17/2 Frank Lampard
7 – 10/1 Roberto Martinez
8 – 14/1 Laurent Blanc
9 – 14/1 Alan Shearer
10 – 14/1 Andre Villas-Boas
11 – 14/1 Nigel Pearson
12 – 16/1 Marco Silva
13 – 16/1 Claudio Ranieri
14 – 20/1 Steven Gerrard
15 – 20/1 Joey Barton
I bet you could guess my first choice but at this time I can’t see Rafa being offered a job by the present owner!
