There was a surprising report earlier this week that Newcastle and Dwight Gayle had agreed to a three-year extension on reduced wages. As it stands that claim has yet to be confirmed by the club though it could prove to be a wise decision for a couple of reasons.
Despite being thirty-one and not featuring much this season, Gayle retains value as a proven Championship goalscorer. So tying him down long-term means Newcastle can cash in him rather than losing him for nothing this summer.
If Newcastle do end up in the Championship next season, chances are Callum Wilson will want to move on which leaves Gayle as a capable option in the Championship. So while it’s a surprising decision to keep Dwight on the books, there is some logic behind the decision.
There is plenty of other work to do with players out of contract in the summer beyond Gayle. Andy Carroll, Federico Fernandez, Jacob Murphy, and Fabian Schar all are on expiring contracts.
The Chronicle is reporting that Newcastle plan on triggering an option to extend Fabian Schar for another season. Newcastle also reportedly can do the same with Fernandez as well.
Next season, there will also be a few players entering the final year of their contracts. Three of which are Academy products in Paul Dummett along with the Longstaff brothers. None have featured much this season though Dummett has started the last three games at left-back after an injury-plagued past couple of seasons.
Newcastle also have two senior players out on loan in Spain’s La Liga in Florian Lejeune and Yoshinori Muto. Both will return this summer with one year left on their contracts.
The Chronicle has another report detailing Lejeune’s exploits with Alaves where he has been named as their best player of 2021 so far by the CIES Football Observatory.
It’s not gone as well for Muto, who is with Florian’s former club Eibar. The 28-year-old has just one goal in 22 La Liga appearances, though he did score two in two in the Copa del Rey.
The Chronicle reports that Muto would love to remain with Eibar though whether that feeling is mutual remains to be seen.
Newcastle have decisions to make but the uncertainty of our Premier League future is likely causing some consternation for both the club and players. So we could see a few of these contract sagas play out into the final few weeks of the season.

Leeds have already left us in their slipstream and are in a different class to us already, ive come to terms now to fully expect nothing but total failure under Ashley and i refuse to let it worry me or effect my life or happiness, its just not worth it Jail, what ever will be will be and there is nothing we can do about it mate, so its best just to enjoy our lives as best we can mate.

It’s not as simple as that is it though, we wouldn’t be on here ranting about it if we didn’t care, just because someone is pi$$ed off with the club it doesn’t affect your everyday life, it’s two different things.

What are you talking about? I’ll think however I want to think just like every single person on the planet will choose to think what they want. I’m a grown man mate I can make my own decisions and get myself dressed (missus irons tho 😉 ) so I’d suggest let me live my life how I want and you live yours to your best as well.

For all Shields was a busy port, it’s also a big place and there’s no real reason why you should have known of the workings of docks.

Comment #70I feel like I have to repeatedly post this whenever De Marco get’s brought up….
Yes, he has always posted black and white photos so what he’s posting at the minute is nothing new. When he was confirmed as working on our case, that’s when fans started working themselves up by looking for hints and clues in his photos. Was it intentional by De Marco? Probably not. However, he see’s the replies from fans and has since (again just my view) posted the same photos but with what appears to be subtle hints to get a reaction from the fans. Believe he talked about needing to order some more ‘cans’ at one point and just so happened to leave a bottle of Newcastle Brown Ale amongst bottles of wine for one of his infamous bread photos? Come on…. he’s a clever man and that to me shows he’s well aware of fans getting worked up over his photos and is having a bit of a joke and fun with it
So personally think over time he has started playing up to it for his own amusement and bit of fun. Don’t think that’s outlandish to think or ‘conspiracy theory’ talk, seems quite obvious to me. That’s why I don’t really agree with it as i’ve said before, it just gets our fans on twitter worked up and gives them false hope as it’s been ongoing for a while now. Think it’s odd behaviour from a top lawyer and if it was me personally, seeing the fans comments on my posts, I would probably take a step back and read the room and think ‘Maybe I should stop posting for a little while or post differently for a bit so I don’t get the hopes up of these fans’.
Sorry for long post, just my view on it and tried to write it out as clearly as I could as I feel I repeat it every week haha

Comment #77There’s talk in the Chronic about Gayle and Carrroll being subject to a possible new contract.
So, between the two of them, they’ve hardly been on a game pitch and their goals tally is err, well, questionable. Why offer them a contract not to play?
