Newcastle did very well to sign Matthew Bondswell last month after he mutually agreed to leave RB Leipzig earlier in the year. The promising 18-year-old had a few suitors but ultimately chose Newcastle for future first-team opportunities.
Adding young British talent to the Academy is going to be crucial to Newcastle’s future after Brexit. Bondswell is an exciting young left-back who has represented England up to the U18 level.
Hopefully, Newcastle will continue the trend of adding youngsters each window as they have done over the past few years. If a recent report in The Mail is accurate, Newcastle already have another youngster in their sights for this summer.
Simon Jones is reporting that Newcastle are leading the race for Wigan’s Kyle Joseph. The 19-year-old is out of contract this summer but Newcastle are reportedly prepared to pay £850k in compensation to help seal the deal.
Joseph broke into the Wigan first team this season but has been out of action since late January with a back injury. Before his injury, he impressed scoring 5 league goals in 14 appearances.
The striker is a former Scottish U19 international and was in talks with Celtic earlier this year. He’s also been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham in the past. However, it looks like Newcastle could be closing to agreeing on a deal for the youngster.
