This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s match against Spurs at St. James’ Park. It has five changes from the 3-0 defeat at Brighton.
It looks like Bruce has made some wholesale changes and is possibly reverting to five at the back. He’s also handed Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff, and Matt Ritchie rare starts. Dwight Gayle gets another shot after Bruce confirmed he is in talks for a new contract.
It’s great to see both Matty Longstaff and Elliot Anderson back in the squad along with Allan Saint-Maximin. It is a surprise that Ryan Fraser and Federico Fernandez were both left out.
Here is who Jose Mourinho will send out for the visitors.
Newcastle put themselves at risk of a place in the bottom three without a win today. Fulham are just two points adrift and take on Aston Villa after today’s match.
A reaction from last time out at Brighton is mandatory but with no wins in the last six, we’ll take one anyway we can get it. Hopefully, all these changes will make a difference.

Comment #4Where’s the bang in form Ryan Fraser. I wonder if it’s got anything to do with his quotes after the Scotland match posted on Nufc.com
“We all want to play for the manager and when you feel like that you’ll run through brick walls for him”
That’s not the exact quote as it’s not on anymore but it’s very similar. I wonder if Bruce has took that as a slight?

Comment #7Krafth Shelvey and Gayle I the same side, cake walk for Spurs.
That’s probably the worst selection I’ve seen from Bruce.
What a joke.

Comment #15Shelvey and Joelinton again, eh? I’m giving this one ten minutes to see if there is any application from the players. No point in sitting through 90 minutes of same old. Sad state of affairs given league position.

Comment #18Pity there’s no fans in the stadium, the cries of ‘You don’t know what you’re doing’ would be ringing out loud and clear.
I’m almost hoping we get stuffed. Which from a supporter of over 65 years is a damning statement.

Comment #21This looks like a 3-5-2 or 5-3-2 formation as
Kraft – Lascelles – Dummitt
Murphy – Shelvey – Almiron – Longstaff – Ritchie
Joelinton – Gayle
I’m assuming that Fraser and Clark are not selected because of their international duties.
And ASM because he isn’t fully fit.
No idea how this will turn out.

Comment #26Not that I want to post but removing something which shouldn’t be removed is frankly censorship which makes this blog worthless. I posted a public profile of Mund on twitter, one that has 700 + followers. No comment, simply posted what he posts to the world, so why was it so uncomfortable to be posted here? What’s he ashamed of that we can’t see it here? It’s an advert for a like isnt it? Judge for yourselves –

Comment #28“I ain’t played right wing-back in about four years if I’m going to be honest. So when the gaffer asked me to do it, I’ll play anywhere he wants me to play.
“I think that’s why we’re doing so well. It’s because everyone wants to play for the manager and when you want to play for the manager, you’ll do anything for him. You’ll run through brick walls for him”
I think Bruce has asked him to play RWB in the past(as he has done with Murphy) and Fraser has said no, then said this???

Key phrase that stands out “when you want to play for the manager”
Fraser doesn’t want to play for Bruce, never has as far as I can see – remember the hapless red card that he brought on himself rather than look like a fool doing what Bruce had asked of him.

Comment #31Its definitely not going to be 3 at the back, Keith Downie has to be wrong there, Bruce hasn’t played 3 at the back a single solitary time in his 2 years here. Keith has also said numerous times before that it was 3 at the back only for him to be wrong every time. Its going to be 541, anything else is just dreaming. And we can’t score with that formation with a fully fir squad nevermind without asm and Wilson. Its going to be a long day

Comment #40If Murphy and Ritchie have good games and can get forward then we have a chance. If we’re on the back foot like usual it’ll be another painful watch.
Kraft worries me, where’s Fernandez?
S. Longstaff and Shelvey together, think I’d have tried playing both Longstaff brothers for this one.
