Sean Longstaff, Gayle, Murphy, And Ritchie Get Starts Against Spurs

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s match against Spurs at St. James’ Park. It has five changes from the 3-0 defeat at Brighton.

It looks like Bruce has made some wholesale changes and is possibly reverting to five at the back. He’s also handed Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff, and Matt Ritchie rare starts. Dwight Gayle gets another shot after Bruce confirmed he is in talks for a new contract.

It’s great to see both Matty Longstaff and Elliot Anderson back in the squad along with Allan Saint-Maximin. It is a surprise that Ryan Fraser and Federico Fernandez were both left out.

Here is who Jose Mourinho will send out for the visitors.

Newcastle put themselves at risk of a place in the bottom three without a win today. Fulham are just two points adrift and take on Aston Villa after today’s match.

A reaction from last time out at Brighton is mandatory but with no wins in the last six, we’ll take one anyway we can get it. Hopefully, all these changes will make a difference.

Howay The Lads!

Krafth should not be in instead of Fede.

As long as its a 3-5-2 it might be OK but if he plays Joe and Gayle wide I can’t see us having a shot on goal.

Shelvey and Longstaff together in midfield is worrying. Are both very similar. Are too slow and don’t get about the pitch to close-down.

I’m missing an afternoon on the river for this lot, although for some reason I’m not as certain we will lose as I was before Bournemouth?

?? i would hazard a guess at a missmatched 4-4-2 diamond… joelinton gayle uptop, almiron or longstaff in the hole the other out wide with murphy on the flanks and shelvey deep playing longball. Hashed together ritchie at wingback with krath and dummet playing cb alongside lascelles

My positivity is slowly draining after seeing that team, oh dear.
Carroll has lamped Bruce hasn`t he, not even on the bench, it`s blatantly obvious something has happened.
Kraft ? Ritchie has a good attitude but could get well and truly owned today.
Wish i had bought some alcohol now 🙁

As predicted the blog troublemakers have done their usual matchday disappearing acts.
They could be questioned about teams and tactics and then make fools of themselves (even more).

So at least there is a bit of respite from them.

They’ll be back later bitching and arguing.

How many of that team would get on the Spurs team? We do have a lot of really below average players.

Fraser looks like he wouldn’t get out of bed for us and it’s been said enough times. Seems like he’s contrasting Scotlands manager with Bruce. It could be cynical though. He probably wants out and is hinting to those watching him, that he’s not to blame for his poor season.

I can only presume we won’t see Bruce at all today.

Carroll has laid the nut on him and Ritchie has kicked him when he went down.

Leaving Carroll with concussion and Ritchie free to get a game.

Don’t think I’ve ever felt so apathetic about a game, I’ll cheer a win but won’t really care if we lose.

I am looking forward to a nice leg of lamb for tea though! 🙂

Wasn’t Wilson and Saint max supposed to be back for this? Throw on Saint max at the end when the game is already long out of reach right Bruce?

Well swing the line up any tiny slither of hope is gone..expect the usually awfully looking Spurs to look like Barca today

Not sure what to make of the team without knowing the formation. Bringing two fullbacks into central defence would suggest he’s going 3 at back and giving wingbacks instructions to get forward. Dummett and Krath would then cover holes at fullback position. Because it’s Bruce though there’s always a massive chance of a flat back five. Good to see Hendrick out though. Cant complain about ASM. If Bruce isnt picking him he cant be ready. He threw him on bandaged up last time.

Mad selection. 5 changes is too many.

Teams very different, too many changes and Joelinton (can’t shoot can’t defend).

Feel a few starters today will be thrown under the bus if we get a hiding. As it’s never Bruce’s fault. Never.

This team is setting out for a point and nothing more.

I really despise this managers choices.

Hmmm this selection could be anything

I will say though Krafth and Dummett are possibly best playing as part of a 3cb partnership as neither are a modern fullback in a million years but they can both defend pretty well when not being exposed

Murphy and Richie can actually provide crosses into the box if they can get out of our half

Gayle being rewarded for his new contract as predicted!!

I think, Sean has been hung out to dry by Bruce.

Fan base have been clamouring to have him back, so Bruce obliges by stringing him up with a lousy bunch around him.

Bruce’s opinion as always against “top teams” is we’re going to lose so hold back better players for Burnley next week and shove Sean in on a suicide mission.

Why else is Fed or Clark not playing? Why else is Fraser not in squad, or Carrol, yet Jo and Gayle get games along with the ever reliable slow coach Jonjo, while Willock is on bench?

This is giving up before the whistle blows and hoping for 3 points next week when Fulham play ManU.

The man’s clueless, another game gone, another accumulation of games played and goals against, can’t see anything else.

Because it’s not what you’d expect, it may be Jones’ doing. Bruce has always been predictable, except for Wolves when he played 5 wingers. But as soon as they lined up it was the usual 5-4-1 park the bus.

You also draw on your experience and to do 980 odd games, there is a fair amount of experience there.
