Allan Saint-Maximin made his return after missing three matches with his groin injury. The Frenchman came on in the second half with Newcastle down 2-1 to provide a push down the stretch for the equalizer.
Saint-Maximin played his part as he started the move that ended up with Joe Willock’s leveler with just minutes left on the clock. Newcastle were able to see out the match for the unexpected point.
Callum Wilson was not involved though he is ramping up his efforts in training. The striker could be back for the monumental match at Burnley next weekend. Wilson has missed 7 matches since injuring his hamstring in the first half against Southampton, which was also our last win.
Another Magpie who was injured in that match has now given an update on his progress. Fabian Schar injured his knee in the second half against the Saints which left Newcastle down to just 9 men to see out that match.
Fabian’s injury required surgery and it’s now been almost two months that we’ve been without our Swiss defender. Schar is in a fight against time to return this season with just 8 matches remaining.
However, the 29-year-old remains fully focused on coming back before the end of this campaign to help Newcastle if he can. Here is Schar’s update on his rehabilitation which he gave while answering questions for NUFC fans on Zoom.
“At the minute I’m quite happy where I am after now 7 weeks after my surgery. For the last 5 to 6 weeks I was working hard in Switzerland.
“The only aim I had was to do as many hours in the rehab as possible. I’m on the right way.
“There’s a bit to do and it’s going to be tight for some games this season.
“Obviously, it’s my aim to help the team at the end of the season. I will do everything to try. I can’t exactly say if it’s possible or not.”
Newcastle have reportedly triggered an extension clause in Fabian’s contract so he’ll return for next season. Whether he can play a part in our last few games seems doubtful at the moment.
Newcastle also have Fede Fernandez who’s not played in 13 matches. Fernandez was unavailable for the Tottenham draw after picking up a calf injury in training. Hopefully, that won’t keep him out for too long.
As for Schar, he seems desperate to get back not only for Newcastle but also to represent Switzerland in the European Championships this summer.
Hopefully, Fabian will be able to return before the season ends, especially if Bruce is going to continue with the 5-3-2 formation that was brought back for Spurs.
Here is the full video of Fabian answering fan questions on Zoom.

If Ashley wins case, and we stay in PL, sale goes through, Ashley gets his asking price, everyone’s happy.
If Ashley wins case and we’re relegated, Ashley hast to drop price to get sale, but takes PL to court for lost sale value due to PL delays, everyone’s happy except PL
If Ashley loses case, then sale is dead, unless the BeIN/Saudi impasse is fully sorted. Who knows what might happen in this case??

See I think there are others, I think there has always been others but Ashley has never wanted to sell. In fact even with the Saudis he only wants to sell as he gets more than just rid of the club, I think he has a lot more in the pipeline if this goes through. Time will tell what happens but for me I think the boat has already sailed on Saudis…not saying I am right but its what I think currently. I agree de Marco thinks he will win but the club being taken over isnt the win for him, hes linked to the arbitration of one small aspect of the takeover. Even if Ashley wins the takeover isnt certain it just returns to the owners test again which wasnt completed when PIF walked away
Mund
No I agree it was a tactic to not pass the takeover but is the PL wrong for not wanting the Saudis to takeover a PL club? Its not PIF who will own us in the end its the Saudi Govt because they are the same really, we all know it haha

Comment #88Glad of the point but Spurs were awful and if a fully fit Maxi and Wilson would have started we would have won by 2 or 3.
Apart from the assist – which was a simple pass – Longstaff was anonymous and without Hayden we never put a tackle in in midfield.
Ritchie and Murphy need to keep their places and Bruce has to stick with three at the back with Fede in place of Krafth.

Comment #89I just think it’s good business on Ashley’s behalf to cover his options.
It’s possible (we don’t know) that the consortium have agreed to buy club, even if relegated but @ a much reduced price.
If this is the case, Ashley’s route to getting all his money is to win arbitration case then take PL to court for what he “lost”. I think he’d have a good case.
This would also explain away all those nagging questions about why is he not doing anything to avoid relegation?? – if Di Marco wins, Ashley can’t lose!! Clever really. 🙂

Comment #90I ask what have we done to deserve this owner but what have Coventry, Blackpool(former) and Blackburn done to deserve theirs. Just pure luck that Leicester got King Power rather than say, Wolves or Coventry or even Notts Forest. However I do think we played a bit of a part in our downfall by that sizeable minority of fans hounding out SBR, had he remained and gone upstairs instead the whole Souness debacle might not have happened and the club might not have got so heavily in debt. That’s why I felt so strongly about a minority of fans trying to hound out Rafa, look what happened last time and look what’s happened now, although the fans ultimately had no bearing on the Spaniards departure in the end.

it was looking hopeful for a bein saudi peace deal and for bein to be show in ksa again, especially after air links were re-opened. however, that was a while ago now and since then nada. Until that happens the PL will contiue to link the saudi government, ergo PIF, to piracy.

There’s bad eggs in every crowd. Some leftie graffitied the Churchill statue, but a day or two later some of those protesting that peed on war memorials and did n*zi salutes. The people at either extremes are not representative of the bulk of people, but if you say you want better education for working class kids and higher tax for billionaires some will compare you to Stal*n. Likewise if you say you want less f*reigners some will compare you to Ad*lf.

He had to stick with five at the back because he didn’t have the tactical nous to change it without getting humped. He had to change from five at the back because he didn’t have the tactical nous to score goals against lesser opposition that we didn’t have to concede 70% to. Do you see a pattern there. It’s very much like a lack of tactical nous pattern emerging. Well not emerging, fully emerged and sticking out like a sore thumb for about a year and a half now.

Souness pales in comparison now, I’ve never disliked a manager so much in my life. His 16 minute presser wasn’t bad, not downbeat but not arrogantly smug. He gets a point on the board and in his own mind he’s vindicated, time to lay in to the fans/area again. “So much nonsense up here” then please foot right back off down there then Steve, wherever that may be.

Comment #108RH, I agree it’s gone quiet, but a lot of Middle East based business is done with hand shakes, settlements and quiet agreements to move on so that nothing gets “trumpeted” publicly, that way there are no winners or losers and “face” is protected all round.
I suspect something like this is going on behind the scenes and the result will be that BeIN remove all their objections @ the PL and the sale can proceed.
It’s noticeable that the Saudis have secured the tv rights for the whole Asian federation area and that BeIN didn’t even bid. Something is happening between them to carve up what they want and move on, but I suspect there won’t be much info made public.

Comment #112Is up here, also referring to Sunderland as he got the same abuse there. He should also mention the midlands where he got worse abuse. Is Hull, Wigan and possibly Sheffield the only areas he didn’t get abuse? He goes on like he’s had statues built at all his other clubs and we’re the first to have the idea he’s crap.
He’s never even won a manager of the month. He got to one FA Cup final, only beating one premier league team, and he got two runners up positions in the Championship, both times with recently relegated teams who had spent big.
