These Comments From Former Roma Owner Show Newcastle Are Still An Attractive Option

Sunday marked a good day for Newcastle fans for once. Not only did we pick up an unexpected point in an excellent performance against Tottenham but Fulham collapsed after taking a 1-0 lead at Aston Villa conceding three goals in the final 12 minutes.

Newcastle now hold a 3 point edge over The Cottagers with a match in hand. Hopefully, the lads can carry some newfound confidence to Burnley and find a way to get our first win in seven matches.

Even if Newcastle are able to hold off Fulham off and keep in the league next season, there’s no reason to expect much of anything to change if Mike Ashley can’t find a buyer for this club.

Steve Bruce could remain in charge but with a very limited transfer budget. There are claims that it would cost Ashley more than £4m in compensation to sack Bruce this summer if he keeps us up. So we could be in for another season of toil in which survival is the goal, though likely with fans back at St. James’ Park.

The hope remains that Ashley finds a buyer or can somehow resurrect the Saudi-backed takeover. Though at this point that seems like a longshot with the Premier League firmly against the Saudi PIF having a stake in the league.

However, there will be interest in Newcastle at some point in the future. Newcastle are a sleeping giant just ripe for a proper owner, or ownership group, to come along. When that will happen is anyone’s guess but with Ashley desperate to sell, let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later.

To show how tempting a club Newcastle could be for any potential buyers, The Athletic has published the following comments from former Roma owner James Pallotta about his pursuit of a new club:

“I do think that if there’s a place that makes sense for me, it’s the Premier League.

“I think there are interesting teams in the Premier League that have great history.

“And it would be nice to see them getting back to it. The Newcastles of the world. Great, GREAT fanbase. Those are the kind of things I think would be interesting to be a part of with a good group (of investors).”

Pallotta sold his stake in Roma this past summer and had been linked with an interest in Newcastle since last January in the Italian press. Whether he will pursue Newcastle is unclear but his comments reveal that Newcastle remain an attractive proposition for potential owners.

I think if Fraser had the same run of games in the same position he would have more goals and assists than ASM in open play also he can take a wicked set piece which I have yet to see ASM take a corner for us?

He also fits into a high pressing team

I just think under Bruce ASM Fraser Joelinton and Almiron have never been used to their full potential that a proper coach could easily coax better output from them

Can’t believe people saying Gayle needs too many chances to score then says we should play Linton … pmsl, that guy needs 62 games to score 2 goals for gods sake, he should have had a hat trick yesterday and missed a chance my grannie could have scored – Linton will never make an EPL footballer, will look okay in the odd game but they are few and far between – nowt against the guy, not his fault we paid 40 million, sooner we realise he’s a dud and get rid the better ( presuming Ashley will release the purse strings to buy a replacement )

    Tmw,
I wonder how smug Bruce will be if we saty up by virtue of Fulham not winning again rather than us getting the three wins we require.

Steve Bruce on spirit: “There’s this nonsense about a mole in the dressing room. Blah blah blah, there is nothing wrong with the spirit here.”
He really is suffering some kind of mental strain, it was him who mentioned the footin ‘mewl’ in the first place.

He will be smug even if we go down cos it’s never his fault. It will be the fans fault even though we haven’t been there
I’m wishing for fulham defeats cos cant see wins for us

You may be right about the spirit but I think it’s the players deciding for themselves that they need to do something otherwise we wouldnt have had the brighton and Sheffield utd type performances

I think he’s played a back 3 of Krafth, Lascelles and Dummett because they are relatively fast as centre backs go, meaning we could play a bit higher line, and having the 3 centre backs meant the full backs could get forward more often, and for sure we benefited from Murphy and Ritchie’s ability too get into advanced wide areas and swing them in or even swing them in from deeper.

Might see him stick with the same 3 at the back next week, because while Fede is the far better defender, Krafth is certainly faster and more mobile and you can’t fault his endeavour.

Also, if we continue to go with the three at the back, and play a split front two, then I don’t think ASM or Fraser get in the team and I think the front two would be Joel and Wilson, and they’ll play a bit more centrally, with more lateral movement from Miggy in behind.

Wyn I was saying same recently. Lascelles and Ritchie etc need to galvanise them. Wilson too. It’s not down to Bruce, who clearly winds people up.

Nicky, Fede is a way better defender than Krafth in my books. Reads plays better, better tacker, header. He might be slower but Krafth has been badly exposed for pace too.

Lingard’s was a very good goal – made easier by the movement of Antonio – who really ought to get an assist for that run.

Know I’m biased and also get a mention toward the end, but have a listen to this, though is about 48 mins. Someone mentioned that Leicester game last week, its mentioned fairly early on about how the players were feeling and how they coped, also the fans feelings. At the end, mentions something he texted to me at the weekend about the way to motivate players, why I said need him, Rob Lee and Warren Barton in to coach and motivate alongside a good director of football

    Munster,
it depends on what you’d class as hounding out, there wasn’t a ”Rafa out” campaign as they’d have been laughed out the ground but there was a good few on here slating his every move and his football. Enough people start agreeing with your hate campaign and it starts spreading to the terraces, get enough people agreeing with you on Facebook and twitter and the rest of the country start saying ”those deluded Geordies think they’re too good for Rafa now”
What did your relentless criticism achieve Munster, absolutely nothing. You, catchy, Charlie, yorkytoon got your wish and he’s gone. However, as most people knew, he wasn’t replaced with this up and coming young progressive manager from the continent that none of you could name, he was replaced with Steve Bruce, as most of us knew he would be, if not Steve Bruce someone very similar. So well done for your three and a half year campaign.

That Bowen is some player. I was gutted we missed signing him instead of West Ham. I really think he could convert to an out and out forward like Vardy. He’s got the pace and finishing. Loved watching him for Hull.

Ashley takes businessmen out for a drink and it gets messy – puke in the fire, get yer shirt off, drop yer pants – all a good laugh with the boys.

Then the “paid for girls” turn up and it gets seedy.

Then the cameraman sneaks in and hey presto – friends for life – friends who owe you a favour.

Yeah, I’m a big Fede fan but pace is critical in football. The ability to regain shape quickly, stick with your man, shut down space, find space, move the ball around the pitch at pace. Not to play at full tilt all the time of course, but to have it and use it where necessary. Certain players despite being good technically or fast in terms of how well they read the game don’t have that real physical pace and it can be detrimental, Shelvey for example, in the middle of the park and possibly Fede and Clark in the case of the three at the back for us. I used to like it when Rafa played a back 3 of Schar, Fede and Lejeune cos they played it out well, but it was no coincidence they also sat deep, because they didn’t have the pace to play the higher line.
