Report – Ashley Still Committed To The Saudi-Backed Takeover

Yesterday, former Roma owner James Pallotta made some intriguing comments about his pursuit of a new club. The American businessman sold his stake in Roma last summer and admitted that owning a Premier League club interests him.

He actually referenced Newcastle by name as the type of club he’d like to pursue, one with a rich history and great fanbase. He also jokingly said he’d already put in an offer for Newcastle before quickly making it clear he was kidding.

However, Pallotta’s statement does little but increase speculation about Newcastle’s future, especially while our Premier League status remains uncertain. While Ashley is still reportedly desperate to sell Newcastle, it appears he’s only focused on one deal at the moment.

The Northern Echo is reporting that Ashley has all of his eggs in the Saudi takeover basket. He remains fully committed to resurrecting the deal he agreed upon this time last year.

As Ashley sees it, he’s agreed to this deal and it should have been signed off by the Premier League. For reasons that reek of politics, the Premier League slow-rolled their owners’ and directors’ tests while asserting that the Saudi state must provide paperwork as an entity of the consortium.

That is where the standstill remains with Ashley pursuing legal options to get the takeover back on track. However, at this point, it seems unlikely but I’m primarily taking that approach to shield against further bitter disappointment.

The reason why this consortium – which consists of the Saudi PIF, Amanda Staveley’s PCP Partners, and the Reuben Brothers- remains so enticing to Mike Ashley is simply that they have the funds to meet his asking price.

After the first attempt by Amanda Staveley, Peter Kenyon and GACP Sports, Henry Mauriss, and BZG among others, Mike Ashley has found the group that can meet his demands. He seems bound and determined to fight for this takeover until all potential avenues are exhausted.

Ashley obviously wants a slice of action in the middle east so no wonder he wants to flog the club to the PIF. But how many genuine well funded buyers gave there been, aside from the Mansours, assuming that’s accurate.

It’s hellish, how little say we have in anything to do with club we all love and support.

We have no power over the owner

We have no say on the Manager/coach.

We have no input on players, tactics formations, anything.

The only thing we have some power over is the level of income generated. If we want more say in the 1st three categories, we must withhold as much money as we are able.

Don’t buy tickets either one offs or season.

    Don’t buy merchandise.

Don’t shop at any Ashley owned outlet in person or on line.

Don’t spend a fortune on Sky Sports or BT Sports packages that further enrich the club owners.

That is our only power, if you don’t use it, you deserve all you get!!

And, if your only comeback is either “gate receipts are a small proportion” or “we support the team, not the regime” – then you are the problem, your totally deluded and you’ve enabled Ashley to destroy our club over 14 years – your fault. – sorry to be so blunt but that is the issue!

If you really want change. Stop!

    Stop going.

Stop putting money in his pocket.

    Stop paying Sky/BT.

If you want him gone, show him how much. He’ll sell us in a flash, believe me. 🙂

The thing is you could go and watch plenty of documentaries that wouldn’t shine a lot of people/governments in good light, but what are we politicians?

I do understand there is a few fans who morally have an issue and that’s there choice as other than football we don’t know what anyone does in there life and can’t judge.

For me I am a football fan first and foremost and even tho I don’t agree with a lot of the stuff about our potential new owners but nor do I think much of our own government or plenty of other aspects that you could thrown in.

I’m a Newcastle United fan and that’s all I care about with these matters and like carltoon said what did we do to deserve our current owner? Do we hate MBS more than Ashley?

I just want to be able to dream again.

    Bring on the Saudis

Wonder if it’s in Bruce’s repertoire to leave the team the same after the Spurs effort
Some positivity from the players and a better sense of what they are doing shouldn’t be messed with
    Kraft apart.

Same team and use the bench differently if needed.

In principal I’d like to agree.
But companies and individuals plough money into ventures to avoid paying taxes elsewhere.

Suspect his accountants run NUFC for his benefit.

    On the Saudi’s

Yes, they have a chequered past.
    But who doesn’t?

How are they supposed to change if we keep them at arms length for all time.

    Embrace them, and change together.

That’ll be £10 please Mr Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

What were some of the major consequences of British rule in India?
The economic policies that England imposed on India not only led to mass famines, but they also impoverished a large portion of India’s population, proving that The British Raj affected India the most economically. The British Raj also had a large impact on India’s society, and transformed it completely.

Loch, you slightly miss the point.

Ashley, privately and separately owns 100% of NUFC. It has no obvious link to any of his other businesses, so any tax dodging going on is at the expense of NUFC.

The rest of my argument (to date) holds water.

Burnley who in the last go games have tried to play football especially against Everton and started like that against Southy but when Souhy scored resorted in hitting it long and airborne

No mate – history is truth.

They can cover it up, but it always comes out in the end – look at the statues fiasco – we ignored all those statues for years, then a guy is killed and suddenly it all comes out in the wash.

Not so sure we deserve 2nd in the league of death there – there was a lot of good came out of the British empire too lets remember.

Probably not enough known about some of the earlier empires, but the Romans and Spanish were a pair of right sods.

In comparison to all of those, the Saudi’s are kittens – a few floggings, the odd dissident bump off and a stone or two thrown – it’s just their way.

Personally I want the Saudis. I believe if they own a club as much in the spotlight as we are (even when we’re crap) will undoubtedly be a force for good and help them with their systemic changes that are already underway.

If you want to look for historic comparisons, basically, no one has their hands clean since we learned how to light fires and even before then we were clubbing the hell out of each other.

Humans are instinctively tribal and when push comes to shove, brutal. We all like to believe we are moving away from this standpoint, but there are too many examples around the World to prove that even Today, we haven’t learned our lessons.

Football is the most popular game in the World because it is the closest any of us can get to our instinctive tribal nature.

For a bit of context, humans have been around approx 15,000 years. (Probably longer)

The 1st known signs of “domesticity” ie farming rather than hunting is over 10,000 years ago.

So the atrocities, we talk about of the last few hundred years won’t hold a candle against everything that will have happened in the thousands of years prior to that.

History is full of megalomaniac “emperors” from Chinese/Indian/Egyptian/Roman/Mongolian/Carthaginian/Aztec/Incan/African (basically everywhere) who slaughtered and enslaved thousands for their power lust or even pleasure.

Modern technology, population growth and improved transport, just allows us to do it on an industrial scale.
