Yesterday, former Roma owner James Pallotta made some intriguing comments about his pursuit of a new club. The American businessman sold his stake in Roma last summer and admitted that owning a Premier League club interests him.
He actually referenced Newcastle by name as the type of club he’d like to pursue, one with a rich history and great fanbase. He also jokingly said he’d already put in an offer for Newcastle before quickly making it clear he was kidding.
However, Pallotta’s statement does little but increase speculation about Newcastle’s future, especially while our Premier League status remains uncertain. While Ashley is still reportedly desperate to sell Newcastle, it appears he’s only focused on one deal at the moment.
The Northern Echo is reporting that Ashley has all of his eggs in the Saudi takeover basket. He remains fully committed to resurrecting the deal he agreed upon this time last year.
As Ashley sees it, he’s agreed to this deal and it should have been signed off by the Premier League. For reasons that reek of politics, the Premier League slow-rolled their owners’ and directors’ tests while asserting that the Saudi state must provide paperwork as an entity of the consortium.
That is where the standstill remains with Ashley pursuing legal options to get the takeover back on track. However, at this point, it seems unlikely but I’m primarily taking that approach to shield against further bitter disappointment.
The reason why this consortium – which consists of the Saudi PIF, Amanda Staveley’s PCP Partners, and the Reuben Brothers- remains so enticing to Mike Ashley is simply that they have the funds to meet his asking price.
After the first attempt by Amanda Staveley, Peter Kenyon and GACP Sports, Henry Mauriss, and BZG among others, Mike Ashley has found the group that can meet his demands. He seems bound and determined to fight for this takeover until all potential avenues are exhausted.

£2 per year (so probably €3 for you)
£20 for lifetime – so probably €25 for you.

Ashley may not speak to the trust but the fact we have a trust with large numbers may attract the right sort of new owner who sees the benefit of harnessing that fan power.
I just don’t understand people coming on here and saying it’s all pointless, what can we do, and yet are desperate for change. Is this the legacy of Thatcher in the north east?

After 13 years Ashley hasn’t achieved anything.
Just the opposite he’s achieved a sort of negative universe in which numpties watching TV see Sports Dire signage and believe it has some meaning. It doesn’t.

13000 members – that’s NOT large numbers.
any potential owner will see 52,000 at a home game and work out what is possible.
Tell me what they have achieved in the last 13 years?

I agree with you with regards being a member but they aren’t going to effect change with ashley in charge
It’s no different to people saying boycotts or not boycott – being a member will not affect anything at the moment. We can only hope new owners will engage in dialogue with them

Agreed that Ashley doesn’t give a flying fig about the trust. But we’re better off having a trust with as many members as possible for when our next owner walks into SJP than no trust at all.
13,000 members isn’t bad but yes, should be at least 50k. But when we get people saying what do I get for my £2 then we have a real problem.

Comment #303We know Ashley won’t sit down with the Trust. However if the Trust has sufficient members it carries weight that cannot be ignored.
The more members the more credibility it has.
The media, the EPL and The FA cannot ignore it even though Ashley does. The pressure will build externally. If there are only ten members, no-one will listen.
Strength in numbers. Ashley’s policy is to divide and conquer.

Comment #309Bin dippers at it again.
The UK’s largest trade union is under growing pressure to commission an independent review into the spending of almost £100m of members’ money on building a hotel and conference centre.
Len McCluskey, general secretary of Unite, is also facing questions as to why the development’s main construction contract was awarded to a company owned by a friend.
The project in Birmingham, which includes new union offices, was intended to save on hotel rooms and conference bills. Yet after an initial estimate of £7m, the building costs ballooned to £57m before construction even began.

Comment #310Well, I don’t know where to start.
Earlier today I pointed out that the reason we get served crap every year for 14 years is because like sheep 50k troop into SJP every other week, pay their money, shout at the regime, who in turn are laughing their bollocks off at what idiots we are.
If you want change, you have to be prepared to make a sacrifice. And this doesn’t have to life changing or end of life threatening. It probably only needs to be for about 3-4 Months.
Believe me if there was no one turning up at SJP from August – Nov next year (a) it would be HUGE news across the world of football and mainstream press and sports broadcasters. (b) It would be catastrophic for the PR and reputation of Ashley retail group and (c) we’d be sold before Xmas – guaranteed.
Our problem and Today’s posts have proved this, is we couldn’t organise a proverbial p up at the brewery let alone a genuine attempt to get rid of the fat knacker.
Some of the comments today illustrate clearly that you’re all getting exactly what you pay for and your a bunch of mugs.
I do exactly what Tackle also does. Ashley gets nowt from me and hasn’t done directly for years and indirectly for the last 12 months. This needs to be done by all so called supporters.
But if you’re not prepared to sacrifice a few Months (which is crackers, cause you’ve just missed the last year) then you’re stuck with Ashley and deserve all you get.
United – don’t make me laugh!

Comment #311Tottenham and Newcastle transfer target James Tavernier has signed a new contract with Rangers after declaring their title victory as the beginning of the new journey with the club.
The right-back has penned a deal that commits him to Ibrox until the summer of 2024. Tavernier has scored 63 goals in 284 appearances since Mark Warburton signed him from Wigan back in the summer of 2015.

I think preempting the announcement is a way of getting all members and social media primed to look out for it. But they risk falling flat on their face if it’s something about nothing. Let’s hope it really has the impact they hope as they need to be encouraged. They do all of this in their own time.
And they are only doing what they do in the hope that one day we’ll have a club that deserves us.
Fair play to them for keeping going all these years.
