It’s A No-Brainer To Ink This Rejuvenated Magpie To A New Contract

Before Joe Willock started banging in late goals, there was another Magpie who had some key late-game heroics to rescue points this season.

Early in the campaign, Jacob Murphy whipped in a beautiful free-kick with just minutes remaining after Wolves had taken a late lead. It wasn’t the only time Jacob would come through for Newcastle.

In December against West Brom, Murphy came on as a second-half substitute to deliver an inch-perfect cross which Dwight Gayle headed in late in that match to get what turned out to be our last win for a couple of months.

Murphy contributed another dramatic assist against Aston Villa in early March. Jacob came off the bench late with another perfect cross into the box. This time it was Jamaal Lascelles who headed the ball in for a point in the dying seconds.

The 26-year-old has spent much of this season in and out of the team. Though that’s changed over the last four matches as Bruce reverted to a 5-3-2 bringing Murphy, Matt Ritchie, and Sean Longstaff into the fold.

Murphy has kept his place with some excellent performances including a massive equalizer at Burnley, a match which Allan Saint-Maximin went on to see that Newcastle won.

Jacob has returned to Newcastle after spending the bulk of the last two seasons out on loan to the Championship. While he’s not a guaranteed starter, he’s had a big impact on this team this season.

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle and Murphy are set for talks over a new contract once safety is confirmed. There have been recent claims that his current deal doesn’t expire until 2022 and that is backed by this report.

The article also says that Watford are planning a £6m bid for the winger this summer. The Hornets have already attained automatic promotion on their first try. Burnley and Southampton are credited with an interest as well.

It’s a no-brainer at this point to get Jacob signed up on a new deal. You’ll not find a better replacement for £6m and he’s proven to be a very solid squad player with a flair for the dramatic.

And of course for the sake of politeness and blog civility, good morning all, and welcome to the recent blog additions, always nice to see some new guys around.

Wor B, how about a blog civility day? Or Month!

Of course Magic or NY would win it hands down every Month. Sorry, no point 😉

He’s never gonna admit that he said he wanted to leave though is he. Ashley won’t let him go unless he gets top dollar (and that is unlikely in these times) as he sees him as a ‘purple player’ and Almiron knows he will get grief from the fans if he tries to force it.

To hell with PSG and any sway they may have with our TO, I’d prefer an English club to win the CL and like many I have a soft spot for Pep. So for me Man City with their more humble recent history are the lease offensive!

    🙂

Just leave it today, christ alive man. New day and all that.

I’d imagine a lot of players currently aren’t sure if they want to stay or not, I know if I was in their shoes i’d be waiting to find out about this takeover first. Be nothing worse than wanting to leave, getting sold and then a week later the club gets new super rich owners! So i’d hazard a guess that some players are waiting to see if a takeover happens before deciding where they want to play next season.

    cleveleysbob,

I’ve had an account for years but login from time to time and try to engage as none of my friends in Dublin are Newcastle fans.

Unfortunately this blog whenever I login is full of posts insulting each other rather than actually discussing the players, tactics or matches. Disappointing really. There are plenty of comments relating to the above but you have to bypass the bickering!

Can we really blame Miggy for saying comments about wanting to leave?

At that point in the season we were 2 wins in 20 and Hendrick was getting more game time in offensive positions that he was!

Played with my son last night – opposite 5 a side , got hammered – definitely getting to old to play against 25 year olds

Only a few of our players have real resale value , miggy being one of them , ASM , Wilson , Dubs the others who could go to ‘bigger’ clubs – the rest would end up at middle of the road clubs or on the scrap heap

The problem is that the players know we probably have no incomings in the summer other than a loan or free transfer , unlikely we’re going to improve with the same owner, manager and players. We’re likely to be in another relegation battle and knocked out the cups as soon as we meet a decent team … If you want to play at the highest level you would want to leave too

    LCBP,
You should have seen the grief he got on twitter. People took his comments of wanting to be in a team that fights as a dig at his team mates, it was lost in translation and was meant to mean “wants to be in a team that fights for tophies” surely Shelvey etc know the glaring lack of ambition at the club.

So Chelsea beat Fulham this week and we beat Arsenal and we are mathematically safe.
If not this weekend then on Friday we play Leicester who should beat Southampton this weekend which practically makes them guaranteed top4 and hopefully they will be on the beach by then and we can beat them and mathematically guarantee PL for next year.
Ball’s in consortium’s court then so to speak, if arbitration is done.
Lots of if’s and buts, to many perhaps

Solano….not to be too technical but that would put us on 39 points and WBA are on 25 with 5 left to play so could in theory finish on 40, albeit highly unlikely.

I think in reality we could lose every game and still be safe. With ASM and Wilson back that too looks unlikely HWTL!
