Newcastle have a bit of a glut in the midfield at the moment which has kept Joe Willock out of the starting eleven over the past four matches. Though the 21-year-old has maximized his impact off the bench with three late goals in his three substitute appearances.
Despite Steve Bruce fielding three midfielders in a 5-3-2, the battle for places remains intense. In addition to Willock, Bruce also has Jeff Hendrick and Matty Longstaff as options. Though Hendrick hasn’t played much recently while Matty Longstaff continues to be left out of matchday squads
Bruce has already expressed his desire to bring Willock back next season, which should be one of our top priorities this summer. It also appears that Celtic center-back Kristoffer Ajer is a top target with recent claims that an £8m offer is being prepared.
The Guardian has just published a report that Newcastle are potentially interested in Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina, who is currently on loan with an option to buy at Fulham.
The Cottagers are in dire straights. They are 7 points from safety with just 5 matches remaining so taking up their purchase option on Lemina is doubtful at the moment. They’ll need to pick up a few wins down the stretch, something they have had massive difficulty accomplishing all season.
The report claims the Gabon international will be available for £7m should he return to Southampton. West Ham are also said to be interested in the 27-year-old who hasn’t played for the Saints in two seasons despite being a record signing in 2017 from Juventus.
Transfer funds are likely to be limited at Newcastle for the next few windows. So we’ll have to spend very wisely. Lemina would be a solid addition to the midfield and good business at £7m under normal circumstances.
However, the financial impact of the pandemic has decimated the transfer budget. So if Willock returns next season, then shelling out cash for a midfielder who turns 28 in September may not make sense for Newcastle this summer.

I saw Keith Patterson mention the news he is talking about relates to his case and those that tried to stop it.
Let’s hope it’s adds to a good defence

Comment #11I REALLY HOPE MIKE ASHLEY IS OUT OF NUFC BY THE START OF NEXT SEASON.
I dont even care who we get as new owners as the truth is MA has ripped the soul out of our club, ive a 14 year old son who only knows nufc under him.
God knows I would love to walk up the ground next season with some sort of expectation rather than the same crap being served up. I dread to think next season without ASM and anyone else who commands a transfer fee.
Sick of all the sources who know bugger all more than the man in the street.
If I were a betting man MA will be here next season and beyond. GUTTED

Comment #23WL at least it’s nice to be able to go out and sit in a beer garden again. Furlough and lockdown is a killer. Think a lot of people have struggled so hopefully things will look up on all accounts! The lakes are lovely but if the weathers bad not so great!
I wonder if how soon it will actually be before everything returns to normal?

Comment #25A poster put up some figures about our current form since Jones joined the club compared to when we only had the 3 Steve`s, it really does show how bad the coaching was before he joined, inept isn`t the word.
Maybe the club have unearthed a dynamic duo who could push us to mid table or even higher, considering 55 points was mentioned as a gauge for a seasons points average with the PPG ratio.
They better not dare threaten a top 10 place or Ashley will start getting palpitations

Definitely back with a new plan. I just hope by then there is some sort of structure in place to protect the clubs and the fans. If something isn’t in the pipe line with the eye openings we have had with the pure arrogance of these tyrant football owners, I’d be very concerned.
Said it before they are no different than Ashley but have more money

I’ll employ a sponge effect using both colours, turn them into camouflage / combats. Slip them on when Mrs EGB wants jobs doing, she’ll never find you again.
