Newcastle Again Linked With This Promising Championship Midfielder

In January, when Newcastle were on the prowl for a midfielder to add to the ranks, Huddersfield’s Lewis O’Brien was named as a potential target.

At the time, it was thought that Huddersfield could be forced to cash in on their Academy product due to his contract running out in 2022. However, it’s since come to light that Huddersfield may have an option to extend him to 2023.

The 22-year-old has excelled for Huddersfield over the past few seasons despite their struggles in the Championship. The Terriers may have a fight on their hands in holding on to O’Brien this summer.

The Sun is reporting that Newcastle are still interested in the tenacious midfielder. However, he may only be targetted if a deal for Joe Willock to return next season cannot be agreed with Arsenal.

The report cites Arsenal’s £20m valuation of Willock as being too much for Newcastle this summer. Bruce denied that Newcastle had been quoted that amount for Willock. During his press conference this morning, he seemed to be referencing another loan deal for the 21-year-old.

But if nothing can be worked out, O’Brien may be seen as a cheaper alternative at a reported £4m. He is the type of player, though without top-flight experience, who would add something to Newcastle’s midfield in that he can carry the ball forward and create while also being a ball-winner.

So while the prevailing hope is to get Willock back next season in some capacity, O’Brien is a promising young midfielder who has some versatility. He also may fit the Mike Ashley profile more than Southampton’s Mario Lemina, who could be available for £7m this summer should Fulham not take up their purchase option.

Got to disagree on Wilson, i think he is better than Rondon who many fans thought highly of.
Wilson is quicker and far more agile than Rondon ever has been and with our better players around him involved more frequently .i.e. Miggy and St Max, he would be into double figures , i have no doubt about it.
He had a goal ruled out last week.
I wouldn`t mind betting he scores tomorrow

Saw toney play in the reserves didn’t look like a 40 million player.
    But what do I know.
I’m still trying to find where bigirama is.
I thought he was a smashing little player.
    But what do I know.

A couple of favourable results today, then a win tomorrow..safety just about achieved.
No reason why we can’t start hearing some actual pointers about this supposed takeover..finally.
Just want to know, whatever the outcome.
And an end to this bull.

I like willock a lot but I do think he is being a bit overhyped.
I slso like Jamal Lewis and I’m sure he will come good.

Bigirimana was a mystery to me as I saw a really good player in that young lad and all of a sudden he just dropped off the radar.

Tottenham are in no rush to appoint a successor as manager to Jose Mourinho.
There has been intense speculation over Mourinho’s replacement since he was sacked on 19 April.
RB Leipzig coach Julian Nagelsmann, Erik ten Hag, Brendan Rodgers and Steve Bruce have been linked with the Spurs job.

If Levy contacted Rafa I’d be worried as I could see him taking that job and tbh he would be the perfect fit with the structure in place. Would kill me seeing Rafa being at another PL club

Just had a look at the Toon training pic.

I see that Anderson is involved and there’s a couple of faces I didn’t recognise so could be yunguns as well.

Wilson appeared to be practicing his high kicking technique which given that it is seemingly permissible might not be a bad idea.

All the players looked happy and focussed.

    Wiki

Gaël Bigirimana (Kirundi pronunciation: [?a?e?l ?i?iri?ma?na?]; born 22 October 1993) is a footballer who plays as a midfielder for Northern Irish club Glentoran and the Burundi national side.

He began his professional career at Coventry City in 2011 and a year later he signed for Newcastle United of the Premier League. After an aborted move to Rangers, Bigirimana returned to Coventry on loan in 2015 and permanently a year later. He scored for Coventry in their 2017 EFL Trophy Final victory, then signed for Motherwell of the Scottish Premiership. Bigirimana left Motherwell in January 2019 and then had a short spell with Hibernian before returning to England with Solihull Moors in October.

With Julian Nagelsmann and Rodgers out of the running, that just leaves Erik ten Hag and Steve Bruce linked with the Spurs job.

If Alex Bruce shows his dad this news, there’ll be no holding Bruceyboy back.

Poor Spurs fans boo hoo, what a state they are in. One boring footer getting sacked only to be potentially replaced by an even more boring footer.
Nah, it`s nonsense man, Spurs are bigger than bloody Bruce.
