Almiron, Ritchie, And Wilson Get Starts Against Arsenal

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s match against Arsenal. It has one change from the draw at Anfield with Callum Wilson back in the starting eleven.

Newcastle Starting XI: Dubravka, Murphy, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wilson

Subs: Gillespie, Schar, Anderson, Joelinton, Gayle, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, M Longstaff

Bruce pulls no surprises with his team selection this afternoon. He’s selected a very strong team with Wilson back in for Joelinton.

Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo are surprise commissions in the squad. Both Elliot Anderson and Matty Longstaff return to the bench for just the second time since February.

Here is who Mikel Arteta for the Gunners with Alexandre Lacazette and Kiernan Tierney ruled out.

Arsenal Starting XI: Ryan, Bellerin, David Luiz, Gabriel, Xhaka, Elneny, Ceballos, Willian, Odegaard, Martinelli, Aubameyang

Subs: Leno, Mari, Chambers, Cedric, Partey, Smith Rowe, Saka, Pepe, Nketiah

Newcastle have an outstanding opportunity to practically clinch safety with a win today. Arsenal have little to play for domestically with a big match in the Europa League on the horizon.

Let’s hope Newcastle can continue with the good performances and keep our unbeaten run alive. Keeping this consistency down the stretch while avoiding any massive pitfalls could see us finish this topsy-turvy season on this rise.

Howay The Lads!

I’d be happy with a point but three would be good. We could be due a win against Arsenal… Hopefully.

    Looking good:

“Newcastle have lost 15 of their last 16 league games against Arsenal, winning the other 2-1 in April 2018.”

Fancy ASM and cannon ball Wilson to give David Luiz a torrid time today.

Sorry I know I’m late to the party! Think one of my favourite goals was actually the first cisse one against Chelsea. The first touch and effortless transition into the volley, cleanly hit into the top corner. Don’t think the keeper even moved. Everything about it was class, skill and intentional. His second was unbelievable but I’m sure I remember him saying before that he didn’t mean it, said Shola threw it to him and he was so tired he didn’t want to run so just whacked it. Still incredible though and probably the best 2 goals scored by one player in the same game in my eyes.

All that aside…. going for 2-1 win today, asm and Wilson the scorers with Wilson winning it late on 🙂

I don’t see the point in risking Wilson towards the end of the season; Wilson should be given the cotton-wool treatment, so he’s ready for next season. You could pretty much say the same Maximin, too.

The worrying thing is, you look at the bench, and there isn’t a lot of potential that could be given chances. Lewis should certainly be getting blooded black into the side at this juncture.

Good morning..or afternoon all! Nice to have a more reasonable start time here in lala land. Actually hoping for 3 points and not another Jekyll and Hyde performance. Looking for ASM to school Luiz and hope he doesn’t try to do him in to save face. If he can put in a good full game here and walk away injury free that would show real progress. Cheers all and HWTL!!!
