Almiron, Ritchie, And Wilson Get Starts Against Arsenal

This is the team Steve Bruce has named for this afternoon’s match against Arsenal. It has one change from the draw at Anfield with Callum Wilson back in the starting eleven.

Newcastle Starting XI: Dubravka, Murphy, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Wilson

Subs: Gillespie, Schar, Anderson, Joelinton, Gayle, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, M Longstaff

Bruce pulls no surprises with his team selection this afternoon. He’s selected a very strong team with Wilson back in for Joelinton.

Andy Carroll and Javier Manquillo are surprise commissions in the squad. Both Elliot Anderson and Matty Longstaff return to the bench for just the second time since February.

Here is who Mikel Arteta for the Gunners with Alexandre Lacazette and Kiernan Tierney ruled out.

Arsenal Starting XI: Ryan, Bellerin, David Luiz, Gabriel, Xhaka, Elneny, Ceballos, Willian, Odegaard, Martinelli, Aubameyang

Subs: Leno, Mari, Chambers, Cedric, Partey, Smith Rowe, Saka, Pepe, Nketiah

Newcastle have an outstanding opportunity to practically clinch safety with a win today. Arsenal have little to play for domestically with a big match in the Europa League on the horizon.

Let’s hope Newcastle can continue with the good performances and keep our unbeaten run alive. Keeping this consistency down the stretch while avoiding any massive pitfalls could see us finish this topsy-turvy season on this rise.

Howay The Lads!

First goal down to shelvey’s sloppiness and laziness! This Guy is even worse than Dummett or ritchie

It is regular thing that we loose goal with pass back in penalty area and all defenders are standing that time on 3rd meter in front of Dubravka. Do they analize matches after game?

We’ve everyone back yet there’s acres of space for them.

No ones anywhere near there men.

Surrendering midfield again, making Arsenal look good.

Good job Asm can make something out of nothing as the rest of the team can’t do anything in this set up.

No fear, we may shite house our way to a draw.

You could ride round the centre of the pitch and out wide on a 3 legged donkey and our midfield wouldn’t get close.

Unfortunately we have a midfield 2 of Shelvey and Longstaff who are impediments to flowing football and offer virtually nothing defensively, both slow in the heed and body.

Midfield overhaul badly needed in the summer.

all wishful thinking but would like to see Willock and Hayden in this lineup in the middle instead of the current two cherry picking pair we have in right now

1 player in the box, only just, and he goes for a cross.

How many of those type of goals have we conceded under Bruce?

Not just Shelvey’s fault but his lack of mobility against teams like Arsenal will always leave us in trouble

Willock and Connor Gallagher next season please in the middle

Since the goal we’ve gone back to 5-3-2, but we definitely started with Almiron through the middle as part of the forward unit rather than midfield.

    We should move to 4231

Almiron is not effective in this formation would be much better to have him no 10 ASM wide right Wilson up top with Richie wide left

Have Dummett at left back and Murphy at right back

Would mean Clark and Fernandez would be more comfortable

Almiron just doesn’t see things. Head down too much.

Could have played ASM in the right channel there.
