Newcastle Against Arsenal – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Poll Result

This is the team I predict Steve Bruce will name for this afternoon’s match against Arsenal at St. James’ Park. It has just one change from the draw at Liverpool with Callum Wilson reclaiming his spot in the starting eleven over Joelinton.

This is another match where Bruce will likely make few changes. It would be a surprise if Bruce changed the shape so I expect much the same team as last weekend.

Bruce admitted during his press conference on Friday that it was the right time for Wilson to start. If he does, it’ll be his first in almost three months and would likely end a 9-match starting streak for Joelinton.

Matt Ritchie has a slight problem with his calf but did train on Friday so he’ll hopefully be able to go this afternoon. We could also see Fabian Schar back in the matchday squad. He was injured in the win against Southampton in February, which was also when Wilson suffered his hamstring injury.

Newcastle Injuries

Jamaal Lascelles (foot), Isaac Hayden (knee), Ryan Fraser (groin), Karl Darlow (knee), Joe Willock (ineligible against parent club), Fabian Schar (knee – late fitness test), Matt Ritchie (calf- late fitness test)

Arsenal Injuries

Kieran Tierney (knee – late fitness test), Alexandre Lacazette (hamstring – late fitness test)

Our poll reveals a fanbase that remains confident from our four-match unbeaten run. Over 50% expect Newcastle to pick up a win which would practically guarantee safety with Fulham losing 2-0 at Chelsea yesterday.

Only 16% think the lads will get beaten today. It’s a prime time to pick up a result against the Gunners whose thoughts may be on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final. Villareal won the first leg in Spain 2-1.

How Will Newcastle Do Against Arsenal On Sunday?

The lads need to remain focused despite survival seemingly all wrapped up now. Fulham are 9 back with just for games remaining. The results yesterday dropped us to 17th for the time being but a win would propel us to 13th.

A run of consistency to close this campaign could see us with a decent finish. That has to be the aim after this rollercoaster of a season. A win today would put us in a position to mount a charge on last season’s total of 44 points. However, we are going to have to do it without the late-game heroics of Joe Willock.

If we stay up, it won’t make any difference to the way fans feel about Bruce, it’s got nothing to do with his ability. It’s the fact he is not liked, not wanted, and never was, it’s a personality thing, the way he was about our fans before he become our manager, the fact he isn’t good enough for Newcastle and believe me never will be.

All the ingredients there for a good performance and at least a point today.

Wilson returning to the XI after looking hungry last time out.

    No pressure from Fulham.

Arsenal with their eggs in the Europa basket.

All that taken into consideration, we won’t turn up 😆

Bergkamp’s was special no doubt and that goal was one of the best but he didn’t mean to do it the way he did it even tho he adjusted and and made it look incredible it wasn’t what was intended.

Cisse outside the foot to get so much power and the way it just swerved into the top corner to me was breathtaking.

    Real prediction.

A 2-1 win, Wilson to get both, one a pen.

Big fan of Cisse as a number 9.

Such a shame he was forced onto the wing to appease Ba, tainted the fans memory of him.

Upfront he was quality, wasted out wide.

Di Canio’s volley is my favourite PL goal.

Unique technique, suspended in mid air when he connected and landed back on feet, just sublime. Like something out of the Matrix 😆

    Acute angle too – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwL-QDZg2BY

bruce’s experience is not successful experience, it’s just an accumulation of games because he’s had so many clubs and is a rank journeyman who has achieved zilch but spent a lot of time doing it.

Loved your put down of catchy. Class.

    Munster

I don’t think catchy was yanking jail’s chain, Catchy just seriously doesn’t understand or get football and never reads the room. I could say this in a Ted Hastings voice and say ”fella”or ”mother of god” at the end. So looking forward to last night’s final episode of line of duty. Been the best thing on TV for a long time. I think I know who the 4th man is for anyone who’s been watching.

Was behind goal for that but fortunately sat higher up stand so not in danger 🙂

For power, venom and accuracy reminded me of Supermac’s goal against Leicester in 70’s but at Leazes end where i then was

Fell into his stride and maybe even hit on volley or half volley from a Natrress cross or punt forward (hazy now and never on TV)

Just remember keeper diving too late as the net was almost torn off!

Anyone there will remember it though as one if not te best Supermac goal for us

Talking to one of the lads at work the other day, he told me he remembers when Bruce landed the job with scumberland and said in an interview that it was a dream job. Can’t remember him saying that myself but can anyone confirm that?
I certainly never wanted him at our club, and makes me cringe when people refer to him as a “geordie” or “local lad”.

Clinton Morrison says Bruce is a top man!
So in what way would Bruce improve Morrison’s game? Well he wouldn’t but he probably just let him play as he wanted; and what did they win? Nothing like every other club he’s managed!
Bruce either has his arm round the players shoulder or else he’s getting his staff to tell them why they’re dropped!
He obviously had his arm around Morrison’s shoulder!
    What a clown!

Re Manu Game i watched it in full on the replays shown earlier the series shown by club – still wondering was 3 going to e enough 🙂

Oh the joy of Albert’s goal and the hordes of away fans trailing away – if only that match could have been the year before instead of the 1 0 loss we would have finished Champions 🙁

,,,,,, and it could have been especially on first half performance the season before!!

At the time, my seat was at the end of a row, when Albert scored his goal i jumped so far out into the aisle i fell down the stairs , arse over tit, i ended up walking home with a limp but it was worth it.
It seems light years away since we had a team like that, absolute disgrace mate

I was in the RVI having a operation as the match played out.

Didn’t find out the result until later that evening.

Was more concerned about the match than the operation.

Both worked out in the end.

I had a tenner on Newcastle 2-0 Chelsea with Cisse first goal so it was probably my favourite goal ever. 200-1 or there abouts. Theyd just beat Barca a few days before and if I remember right it was 1-0 Drogba, and I got score and scorer that game too which was a free bet from sky. Very good week. Id persuaded all my friends to bet on us to beat Chelsea with Cisse using skysports free bet for newcomers. Great Night. Watched it in the Maiden Over near Heworth. Probably never cheered a goal as much as that one.
