Newcastle Against Arsenal – Team Prediction, Injuries, And Poll Result

This is the team I predict Steve Bruce will name for this afternoon’s match against Arsenal at St. James’ Park. It has just one change from the draw at Liverpool with Callum Wilson reclaiming his spot in the starting eleven over Joelinton.

This is another match where Bruce will likely make few changes. It would be a surprise if Bruce changed the shape so I expect much the same team as last weekend.

Bruce admitted during his press conference on Friday that it was the right time for Wilson to start. If he does, it’ll be his first in almost three months and would likely end a 9-match starting streak for Joelinton.

Matt Ritchie has a slight problem with his calf but did train on Friday so he’ll hopefully be able to go this afternoon. We could also see Fabian Schar back in the matchday squad. He was injured in the win against Southampton in February, which was also when Wilson suffered his hamstring injury.

Newcastle Injuries

Jamaal Lascelles (foot), Isaac Hayden (knee), Ryan Fraser (groin), Karl Darlow (knee), Joe Willock (ineligible against parent club), Fabian Schar (knee – late fitness test), Matt Ritchie (calf- late fitness test)

Arsenal Injuries

Kieran Tierney (knee – late fitness test), Alexandre Lacazette (hamstring – late fitness test)

Our poll reveals a fanbase that remains confident from our four-match unbeaten run. Over 50% expect Newcastle to pick up a win which would practically guarantee safety with Fulham losing 2-0 at Chelsea yesterday.

Only 16% think the lads will get beaten today. It’s a prime time to pick up a result against the Gunners whose thoughts may be on Thursday’s Europa League semi-final. Villareal won the first leg in Spain 2-1.

How Will Newcastle Do Against Arsenal On Sunday?

The lads need to remain focused despite survival seemingly all wrapped up now. Fulham are 9 back with just for games remaining. The results yesterday dropped us to 17th for the time being but a win would propel us to 13th.

A run of consistency to close this campaign could see us with a decent finish. That has to be the aim after this rollercoaster of a season. A win today would put us in a position to mount a charge on last season’s total of 44 points. However, we are going to have to do it without the late-game heroics of Joe Willock.

Is any transfer or player links even worth mentioning?

As it stands we have no idea if a takeover is on or off, all we have is opinion on opinion.

It’s not guaranteed we’ll be in PL, looking likely though.

I find it hard to have any real firm opinion on anything that’s about the clubs future.

It’s just so uncertain, too many factors to consider.

Apart from we’ll be playing in black n white at SJP, anything else is a guess at best.

Be nice if we eventually get a club with ambition a plan and vision to get there.

Instead of the farce of the last 14 years.

    OP

I take it you were referring to Leicester game during your op?

When last minute winner went in virually from KO after their equaliser – what bliis

Didn’t realise that a draw because of other results that day would have sufficed

Roll on to next season and what was a carnival against same opposition 7-1 at St James

Why can’t we at least have more of these long lasting great and real memories over the Ashley years – not much to ask

We need to make new memories as they say! ………and not nightmares

Noticeable how Clinton said he’s a great man manager. Not one person ever has said he’s a good manager. Just he’s a canny bloke, but equal amounts say he’s a tw*t. i always thought Agbonlohor was the thickest footballer but Morrisons up there. I remember when he was a player there were rumours he was denser than your average footballer.

Was there for Shearers goal against Everton. Shola assist too! He also scored a special one against Villa. Might have been same season. Gallowgate end but from right hand corner of box. Volley but more of a side foot finish. Not as spectacular looking but technically more difficult.

Ginolas was my fave goal of that game.

After the Peacock controversy, Poborsky (sure it was him) diving and trying for the pen..

Ginola smashed it home, I was “complain about that one”

The Albert one I was jumping up and down on crutches, 3 days after a cruitiate and lateral op on my knee I’ll add.

Then banging on the Man u lads doors screaming shouting and laughing.

Leg was in bits for days.

I’ve been a toon fan since ’66’ and the Cisse goal against Chelski is the best I’ve ever witnessed and that’s including the odd 30yrd gem from little Tony Green…bless him

    Great link Magscar.
It’s interesting how roughly a year to the day after that we beat Leicester 6-0 to go up.

Too many great Nufc goals to choose from.

I’d probably pick one of Beardsleys, he scored so many unbelievable goals, it kinda became nothing special to see him score a worldie.

Very few players we’ve had could emulate Beardsley, I dare say he could theirs.

Don’t think anyone would argue about that starting lineup, only possible change would be Lewis for Ritchie if TFG decides not to risk him.

Should still be winning team today.

Didn`t thnk he was as quick as ASM but there you go.

Can’t believe some folk are still taken in by Brucie putting his arm around players shoulders.

He only does it to get a better grip when he’s throwing them under the bus!

Pundits – usually ex footballers of a certain era, who went into football because they were thick.

Now our TV screens are full of inarticulate morons who week after week prove that they actually know very little about the game.

There are of course a few exceptions, but that’s what they are “exceptions to the rule”.

Modern generation footballers even the academy one’s are being educated to a much higher level, and many of them taught about the game by much better technical managers (again, not the Allardice/Bruce variety).

I have high hopes that this generation, if they go into TV work when they finish playing will (a) know something about the game and (b) be able to articulate that knowledge much better than the current bunch.

Personally, can’t wait, the existing lot are…….. fit in your own descriptions! 😀
