Bruce Admits ‘Big Decisions’ Needed On Current Squad As Survival Remains Paramount

Newcastle suffered a setback yesterday against Arsenal as they failed to capitalize on a golden chance of smothering Fulham’s survival hopes. A win and Newcastle would have been twelve points clear with just four matches remaining. Fulham would have had to run the table for any chance of survival.

However, that chance has gone wasted, and barring an unlikely win at Leicester on Friday, Newcastle will have to keep one eye on Fulham’s next few fixtures. So the apprehensive wait for survival, while still very likely, nonetheless lingers on.

The poor showing yesterday aside, Newcastle still must press with at least preliminary planning for this summer. Some targets seem to have been identified and there are plenty of decisions to be rendered with the current squad.

Newcastle have a few players out of contract this summer and others entering the final year of their deals. So there’s quite a bit to do over the next few months even with the expectation that the transfer budget will be paltry at best.

Steve Bruce spoke a little about the contract situation with some of his players after yesterday’s defeat against the Gunners. It seems that much of the focus is on clinching survival before certain decisions are made.

This is what Bruce said about Fabian Schar’s future along with the current thinking on contract extensions as published in The Northern Echo:

“With Fab Schar, I think there’s a clause in his contract where we can extend it. I believe that’s the case.

“With all of those decisions, there’s obviously discussions to be had when the season is done and dusted. We’re not done and dusted yet, but of course, there are big, difficult decisions to make.

“In every football club, that’s part and parcel of it. Yes, we’ve got some big decisions to make.”

Did I break the blog or were posters excitedly awaiting your appearance?

Judging by the deluge of posts since you graced us with your presence, I suspect the latter.

It’s neither a quick or easy path. My first 18 months of employment was learning to make the tea, clear up other peoples mess an fetch the pies for the 10 o’clock break. Young’uns wouldn’t put up with it now. 🙂

Make sure the mug (large good thick heavy porcelain) is hot, then add the just freshly boiled water, then the tea bags (two) and sugar to taste, cover with a saucer, rest for five minutes, then add milk, (room temp or warm) a decent sized splosh, stir and enjoy.

I like to mix my teas. Two from a box of Irish breakfast, English breakfast, Earl Grey and Orange Pekoe.

I’d take a good cup of tea over a shag 9 times out of 10 nowadays, and If I’m given a well made cup of tea by another, I automatically hold that person in high regard.

Smart thinking that from Bayern Pres. – makes sense, don’t milk the fans, milk the corporate sponsors and get good commercial/advertising deals. – The polar opposite to Mike Ashley methodology! 😆

Police have issued a statement about using excessive force on a football fan outside Old Trafford.

They stated: We unreservedly apologise. We could never have imagined he was actually from Manchester.

Milk in last, means you can watch the cup of tea do that cool colour changing phase where it looks like a storm 🙂

You can read into it whichever way you like as it depends if you believe the papers or journalists putting the stories out. But, i’m concerned with the players we’re being linked with. It’s not exactly PIF money players, more like Ashley and Bruce players money wise. Probably means nothing but just makes me worried is all.

According to Lesh ……… You can tell a lot about a person by the type of Paper they buy.

…If a person buys the Guardian paper they’re liberal lefties.

…If a person buys the Mail paper they’re right wing reactionaries.

…If a person buys Sandpaper they’re Australian cricketers.

I don’t read papers Lesh as I’ve told you many times before. The Torygraph as you call it isn’t available in Dar Es Salaam.

99% of linked players is BS.

What did people think we would be linked with superstars? Would this be an indication the takeover would happen? No. So being linked to not so big names doesn’t mean it’s dead in the water.

Agreed Mund, always is with Newcastle. We get linked with about 600 players every summer haha

Not saying a takeover is dead because we aren’t linked with superstars. Just a mental thing I suppose, seeing Bruce talking about planning transfers ad the seeing names we’re linked with just makes me uneasy. Not suggesting it means anything either way 🙂

It’s business as usual. That’s the thinking coming from the club. All that could be changed but for now and the foreseeable future it’s business as usual.

I think what will be really interesting is if any players get signed before we know the takeover is happening or dead. You’d imagine new owners and a manager would want different players to Bruce and Ashley, so won’t want any players brought in before they’re in charge. All ‘what if’s’ though for now i guess. You’re right it’s super frustrating, let’s hope we have a clearer picture asap once the season is over.
