Bruce Admits ‘Big Decisions’ Needed On Current Squad As Survival Remains Paramount

Newcastle suffered a setback yesterday against Arsenal as they failed to capitalize on a golden chance of smothering Fulham’s survival hopes. A win and Newcastle would have been twelve points clear with just four matches remaining. Fulham would have had to run the table for any chance of survival.

However, that chance has gone wasted, and barring an unlikely win at Leicester on Friday, Newcastle will have to keep one eye on Fulham’s next few fixtures. So the apprehensive wait for survival, while still very likely, nonetheless lingers on.

The poor showing yesterday aside, Newcastle still must press with at least preliminary planning for this summer. Some targets seem to have been identified and there are plenty of decisions to be rendered with the current squad.

Newcastle have a few players out of contract this summer and others entering the final year of their deals. So there’s quite a bit to do over the next few months even with the expectation that the transfer budget will be paltry at best.

Steve Bruce spoke a little about the contract situation with some of his players after yesterday’s defeat against the Gunners. It seems that much of the focus is on clinching survival before certain decisions are made.

This is what Bruce said about Fabian Schar’s future along with the current thinking on contract extensions as published in The Northern Echo:

“With Fab Schar, I think there’s a clause in his contract where we can extend it. I believe that’s the case.

“With all of those decisions, there’s obviously discussions to be had when the season is done and dusted. We’re not done and dusted yet, but of course, there are big, difficult decisions to make.

“In every football club, that’s part and parcel of it. Yes, we’ve got some big decisions to make.”

Spot on. It is really that simple for me. Sort the centre of midfield out and we could have a decent side. We lose 99% of our games from there as we are so weak of pace and strength.

Yesterday I think, you mentioned a key (takeover?) hurdle had been overcome. What were you referring to?

Thing is under Ashley can we see it happening?

It would make such a difference if we could get two midfielders in there that can do the business the wingbacks can fly forward knowing there is cover and the forwards can press in tandem

We just don’t have that at the moment as none of our midfielders can cover the ground to plug the gaps

I’ve felt like something has been brewing for a while and since then a few whispers have came out claiming a big hurdle has been removed with regards to the takeover.

Don’t know what or if there’s a what but I do feel some kind of evidence has came to light that could help. Time will tell with some claiming something will come out this week at the end of the social media lockdown.

Under Ashley nothing matters mate and if it did and it was under Bruce? Pointless pal 🙁

    No linked players matter!

    Nobody we sign matters!

Nothing Ashley or Bruce say will matter!

It will stay a soulless club like it is now as not one thing matters under Ashley. There is no hope or dreams.

A takeover is the only thing that will save this club

    Lee Charnley Bunga Partt, Mund

Five key questions regarding player needs:

1 – who’s going to identify the needs?

2 – who’s going to identify the players

3 – who’s going to train them into their
    roles?

4 – who’s going to define strategy and
    tactics?

5 – who’s going to manage the above?

If Bruceyboy’s name appears, we’d be wasting money!

Very true which is why we NEED this takeover to go through

We don’t even need a money bags owner see someone who actually would just run us properly with good scouting backed up by data and analytics would get us a million times better club than what we currently have

Thinking guys like the Brentford guys one of the brains behind them is a massive Newcastle fan I read a while ago we need talent like that at the club

A bit of professionalism and a good product on the field and you would see the club transformed overnight into something special

Can’t remember who said it, but yes to some extent right about not much defensive trying under Kegan, but Derek Faz who did most of the training was actually a defensive coach.

Also it came from Keegan about doesn’t matter how many they score as we will score more

“If the Glazers have obtained billions from Man U”

most of that money has gone on interest repayments although the Glazers have also benefited by several hundred million so far.

What are Manure fans actually complaining about. Their spending is right at the top and the Glazers have really maxed their revenue growth. They compete for all trophies and continue to win a few. The exact opposite to us. They just can’t handle being behind City and the bindippers. Long may it continue. We are the ones who should be kicking off. Negligent ownership for 14 years, don’t compete for anything, awful to watch and takeover stopped. Not even a whimper! I’m not saying we should break the law but we should have had a big demonstration. Even with COVID.

One of the seasons under Keegan we had second best defence, only Liverpool did better.

Don’t know which year, something I read in one of the many articles on the Entertainers or player.

Not something I ever checked myself.

I always put the comments they conceded loads down to Liverpool 4 3 and Lawrenson.

Manure can afford their interest payments with the revenue they generate. It’s hardly stopped them shelling out mega bucks on transfers and salaries. It’s just they’re not dominating anymore. Hilarious. Let’s see how many would turn up if they’d won foot all for 50 years.

Do we take it the Guardian are showing on the side of the Man Utd rioting protesters and sticking the boot in on the Glazers ?

Sounds and looks like they are trying to engineer change and in tandem with the rioting fans who are trying to usurp the owners by using disruptive tactics..

Wonder who they have in mind as to new owners ?

The Guardian are complicit in printing every negative thing they could chuck at the Saudis in trying to get the sale of Newcastle United stopped.

Amnesty, Jamal Khashoggi in supporting his ex ..Piracy, etc.

The Guardian threw their black book at the sale.

Watch on and witness the hypocrisy..Its on its way.

Peed off with football at moment.

Stupidly allowed myself to start thinking that next season might be OK, given the little run of performances and results.

I know better now, it’s takeover or nothing, I have no interest in following another year of this Ashley/Bruce tripe. If there’s no takeover, I’ll start watching South Shields and forget about the soulless shell that used to be NUFC.
